Does anyone out there have some the details beyond the scripted article that is the same on every outlet describing the incident that occurred in Rochester at the end of the 1st period in the game between the Utica Comets and Rochester Americansat on March 30. Ben Holmstrom was assessed a game misconduct for using abusive homophobic language. The AHL handed out an 8-game suspension for the action.
Did he specifically target a particular Comet or was it just an A-hole use of terms to try and insult a Comet or the Comets in general? Either way it shows how far the human species has yet to go to simply recognize there all walks of people in this world and all have the same basic human rights without prejudicial opinions by ignorant members of society being used to denigrate, discriminate against, or hate those different from themselves. It's disgusting, but goes on everywhere every day by every class of people.

Nothing more than what Birnell tweeted and the Sentinel article written by Steve Jones.

DeLeo was involved, but I don't know if Holmstrom's language was directed at DeLeo or if DeLeo just reported it to the official as the alternate captain on the ice when the incident occurred. Birnell said DeLeo and Holmstrom were in discussion with each other.

At first I confused 35 yo Ben Holmstrom for Bridgeport's 20 yo Simon Holmstrom. Big difference in the should have known better category between a vet and a rookie.

I will add that not only is Ben Holmstrom a 35 year old vet he is a former AHL captain in Bridgeport. As a former captain he not only should know better, he should be setting an example and showing leadership qualities.

So what exactly has become of Christian Jaros?

He is currently a UFA, yes?

Not playing anywhere in Europe at least not that shows up anywhere.

Waiting for the off season to sign a lucrative deal with an NHL team that recognizes his high skill level and is amazed he is still available?

I don't know why he asked for his termination. I'm going to at least assume he was the one who asked or this would be a big story if it weren't his choosing.

I thought it was odd too, seeing as how the regular season is over in most of the other league or just about over.

Genuine question for those who frequently watch Utica. How do you feel about this team heading into the post-season? Do they have the roster to go deep or is it likely they get upset early on?

Seems like it’s been an incredibly weird year with the ridiculous start along with NHL injuries and waiver requirements depleting the Comets of what would be some quality options.

I don't think they're deep enough and they're really young. I think they will earn home ice until the Final if they make it that far.

Three rookie G. Four rookie skaters, six sophomore skaters, three ECHLers.

They'll get Bahl, Greer, Zetterlund, and Daws back but they have six D and 14 F on the roster tonight.

Utica and Schmid have been playing .500 hockey since February after Schmid returned from his NHL call up. Mitens has been playing .500 hockey all season.

You win the Calder Cup playing .500 hockey if you win the first game.

Realistically the playoff roster looks something like below I would assume? Seems like a decent balance, just wonder if they’ll get time to fully mesh before the season ends.

Greer - Gauthier - Holtz
Foote - Schmelzer- Thompson
De Leo - Flynn - Zetterlund
Gambardella - Talvitie - Clarke
Halonen

Bahl - Russo
Wotherspoon - Walsh
Okhotiuk - Vukojevic
Groleau

Daws
Schmid

3 goals in the 1st 5 minutes and all are terribly suspect.

The 4th on a PP.

The Sens will just keep pressing and the Comets seem to have no answer for their forecheck that was very effective on Wednesday. Comets only got 3 that night and already need 4 just to tie and 5 to win while holding the Sens off the board.

This has all the markings of a blowout. They have scored 5 or better 4 times in the last 22 games. Laval tomorrow and they have been playing very well.

The Comets are getting a taste of what playoff hockey will be like. Nobody will fear them and they will pressure them all 200 feet for 60 minutes.
They don't deal well with that kind of pressure. They have not seen it most of the season. The past 25 games it has ramped up more and more each game as they have faced teams fighting for their playoff lives, thus, already playing a playoff style.
