If I’m targeting anyone at free agency, prob marchament/domi type

Trade for fiala or another RFA that cant be fit under a teams cap.

Not sure exactly how to do the defense… chychrun would be ideal but idk how much I’d pay for him

Marchament zegras fiala
Henrique mctavish terry
Jones Lundy silf/perreault
Carrick grant/ steel des (or like player)

Fowler + _______
Chychrun + drysdale
Benoit + shatt (unfortunately I think we’re stuck with him until deadline)

Stolarz + dostal 1a/1b scenario

For Fowler pairing Manson resigned, or maybe take a guy like cernek from Tampa if they can’t figure out their cap…. I’d love svernson from New Jersey for fowler…. But idk if we could pry him in a gibson trade.

Some of you guys are in for a rude awakening if you think we are getting Fiala AND Chychrun.... We won't get either.

I’m happy with them getting one of those guys and it’s very possible, they have the assets and cap to do it.

I think they should also go after a cap casualty player, someone who has term left, is still good, but is being pushed out of the line up. Think Dadonov type trade but not necessarily a cap dump. Someone like that won’t cost much at all.

If we don't get at least one player of that caliber, preferably a Forward, I'm going to be PISSSED.
Same but I'm not expecting a player like that. They have to agree to come here or we have to outbid every other team. We'll see but I'm not holding my breath.

I feel like we can outbid pretty much any team in the league right now comfortably

I still think Fiala is the move to make.

Chychrun is less appealing since the control for him would not be as long and he will cost significantly more to acquire.
I agree, I just listed chychrun as more or less filler cause idk what other options are available.

Really our defense looks like

Fowler _______
______ Drysdale
Benoit/mahura/ETC + shatt

so we need a top 4 LHD and a top 4 RHD... Vaaks is kinda an interesting one, but idk that i feel comfortable letting 2 of benoit/mahura/Vaaks etc take up 2 LHD spots, but maybe thats the play and we focus on getting a RHD and hope the young LHD can take that top 4 spot.

I’m sure I’m late to this discussion, but what are the thoughts around a deal involving Gibson and Blackwood? What else would the Ducks be looking for? Who else is available?

It seems like it could work for both sides, although it does come with some serious risks.

What are new jerseys needs outside of goalie.

I suggested

Gibson + ducks 1st(assuming its lower than devils)
for
Blackwood + new jersey 1st(top 3 protected) + 3rd round pick or something

Which had mixed reactions, granted i understand from jersey perspective not wanting to give up potential top 5 pick. right now the picks are 6 and 10... so not a lot of difference... and i think your gettings similar caliber player at those spots.

The Ducks have Stolarz and Dostal. They don’t necessarily need a goalie in a Gibson trade. If Blackwood is part of the deal, it would have to include a couple nice pieces going to Anaheim.

Devils main need is goaltending. After that, it’s probably revamping the forward group with a combination of size/skill that can compliment Hughes, Hischier, Bratt, Mercer, and eventually Holtz. Then there’s minor needs like depth defenders, but for the most part, the top six forwards and top four defenders are set in place. After that, there’s a lot of AHL guys on the bubble that should be pushing for spots next year and the following year.

A trade back scenario could make sense. Devils don’t need any more high-end forward prospects which this draft is heavy on. I could see them being ok with trading back if they can grab one of the Slovak RDs, which is the organizations biggest weakness long-term.

Aside from that, Johnsson, Zacha, Tatar, Boqvist, and Kuokkanen are all likely available to switch up the forward group. I could see the Devils parting with Smith for a significant upgrade at forward or in goal if it comes to that too.

I don’t think that deal is far off. I could see the Devils looking for a forward swap too to maybe make up some value between Gibson/Blackwood.

Devils could always deal Blackwood elsewhere with a separate deal to acquire Gibson. They have the assets for it.

The Devils most expendable assets who still hold some value would probably be Zacha and Smith. Johnsson would be another, but I think Zacha would hold better value around the league.

Not sure if that would work for Anaheim needs though.

Were equally as weak on RHD... a name that has been tossed around as potentially available going forward is Comtois... hes struggled a bit this year, might be a good option for change of scenery forward for New jersey, to help balance out values a bit.

Generally speaking I expect us to add two defense first d men. 1 each of LHD and RHD. No one near Lindholms value probably 2 2-4 mil ish level players. 1 to pair with Fowler and the other to pair with Drysdale/Shattenkirk using Vaks for the other pair with Benoit being number 7. Fowler Drysdale and Shattenkirk will provide the offense from the D. I imagine 1 of those is traded for and the other acquired in UFA. Leaving most of our assets to put towards a forward upgrade. Honestly, losing out on Dadynov hurt more than losing the second

There is plenty of options to grab impact forwards this offseason... lot of teams with cap issues and what not. Its more or less getting the right ones.

As for defense its tough... fowler/drysdale are the only sure things... and to a lesser unfortunate extent shatt. You hope Benoit/Vaaks/Mahura etc can fill in a spot or 2... but we def need a guy like Manson on the RH side... and we need a top 4 LHD.... could be picked up in FA/Trade or could be someone in our system pans out better.

Who are are the impact forwards outside of the obvious? I haven't done a deep dive but when I looked at UFA I wasn't encouraged much. Not sure which RFAs make sense.

This seems about right to me. Our offense is on the verge of being decent even with half the roster being a wasteland, but when healthy but the defense is simply not NHL caliber. That plus the fact that adding an individual D man has greater impact than adding a forward, and I think you'll see a couple mid-career veterans brought in. I imagine they'll try to find a top-6 option for the forwards somewhere, too.

Well you look at teams

Tampa has 17 players signed next year, and 0 cap space.... they are going to need to move someone, while already losing Palat... i agree hes someone we may look to grab in free agency(as someone else mentioned earlier)

Toronto i expect 1 of Marner/Nylander to be moved... they have 15 players signed with 8 mil in cap space remaining. Mrazak as their goalie, and a couple young players that will likely get raises.... def could see us being very interested in Nylander

Calgary has 12 players signed with 27 million available... but Tkachuck/Mangiapane/kylington are RFA, Johnny hockey is a UFA... with a lot of other roster spots neededing to be signed... you figure Tkachuck and JG could demand anywhere from 8-10 mil, i think kylington is going to get 5+. So that money is essentially gone instantly if you want to keep those star players.... could see 1 of Mangiapane Tkachuck or JG available.

Fiala isnt going to be able to resign in Minnasota... just no way it happens.... so hes an obvious target.

Vegas has to move someone next year... Pacioretty could be targeted

Oilers might have trouble keeping Pulj... not sure how much id want him but potentially another option.

Canucks likely going to rebuld... moving 1 or 2 of Petterson/Boeser/Miller is a strong likely hood.

Bertuzzi likely availbale, Marchament/Domi available in free agency.

Other options on top of this... but thats kinda just casually glancing. There are plenty of options tho... hopefully PV is aggresive finding skill to add to Terry + Zegras + Mctavish up front.

Next season I See...

???? - Zegras - ????
McTavish - Rico - Terry
Comtois - Lundy - Silf
Jones - Grant - ????

???? - Drysdale
Fowler - ????
Vaak - Shattenkirk

Fill the holes...

Bring someone like Des in or bring Des back

Add two Top 4 to best compliment Fowler and Drysdale. One of those could be Helleson. He will hopefully be ready in a year or to replace Shattenkirk.

Go after a Top player like Fiala to play with Zegras, and maybe Perreault makes the team next season or add a stop gap Top 6 RW for Z

Does Verbeek keep Steel, Milano, Carrick, or Benoit ?

I think the goal should be to be competitive by the time Zegras is Terry‘a age. 2-3 years. If done right these last few or so years of misery will turn into a decade plus of contending.

Ill be in my 40’s but it’s all good. Lol
