Might wanna try free agency and decide for himself where he wants to go. Don't see any incentive to sign early

If Mac makes it into FA, then he will be gone! This will end in a bidding war and i can easily see Mac getting 13 mill or above (no kidding).

The Avs should just bite the bullet and empty their cupboard for Bjorkstrand and Gavrikov. Bjorkstrand would fill Burakovsky's role and salary once he leaves this summer, and Gavrikov is the steady defensive rock that can enable any of our puck movers on either side of the blue line
I've said this before and might as well add Jenner too

Why does everyone think Mack is going to leave? He has put his heart and soul into this team, when is the last player of Mack's caliber left? Tavares?

IMO there is a significantly higher chance Mack signs at a discount than actually leaves the Avs.
East coast lifestyle, close to home and might want to start a family. ( Boston ) 2nd home for NS peeps

He’s not going anywhere. He has too much of a good thing in Colorado.

Agreed. He's never really given any indication (that I recall) of being a me -first type of player and that likely helps a little. He wants to win more than anything else and unless the Avs absolutely lowball him and don't take care of business by doing their utmost to make put the team in position for it to seriously complete for the cup, he'll probably re-sign at a slight discount. Maybe a tad early, even.

I wonder how Nate truly views players that we bag on?

He’d be leaving Gabe and Mikko behind. They’re one of the best lines in hockey - probably/possibly the best. The team, stylistically, mirrors how he plays. The team is largely built around him. Plus, even if there’s some roster turnover, if you have a 29, 8, 96, and 92, you have a lot to work with.

Boston... Don´t think he wants to go through another rebuild during his prime years.
Maybe, who knows but there are more important things in life.

I'm not sure Boston would be in a rebuild with McAvoy and Pasta still there as well as Marchand

The Avs must get the Mack extension done early in the summer. If it looks like he doesn't want to stay you trade him, lose a piece like that for nothing and its RIP.

Woof. Not a lot to get excited about there.
Then again neither is Murray, JJ or EJ (this year)
I was just hoping to find someone who could potentially play up and end up being a decent upgrade on who we have
We don’t need another elite flashy dman. Just a solid guy that can handle the role next to Girard kick JMFJ out of the lineup.

Mack certainly wouldn’t leave for money reasons. He’d leave if he thought his shot at winning a cup with this team was over.

Only way I could’ve seen MacKinnon leaving was if Landeskog didn’t come back. Nate has said multiple times that he wants to win a cup in Colorado, indicating he wants to build a legacy here. He’s also said Makar is the best defenseman in hockey, and constantly praises Landeskog and Rantanen. I don’t see any way he leaves tbh. He’s put too much into Denver to walk away.

I predict a 8 year $92mil deal. ($11.5m per)

I had a dream last night where Annunen was playing as a skater and scored 5 goals in the 2nd period including a natural hattrick to put us up 9-2 against Toronto with 6 minutes left in the 2nd period. Lehkonen was also playing for us and sniped one top corner as well. Kerfoot had a deft assist at the other end as a consolation. I should probably spend less time on here

This. I'm really not worried about Mack leaving barring some kind of organization dismantling happening between now and then (Landy leaving would have done that to a degree). But I'm sure Sakic is going to want to get his superstar forward done as soon as it's legally possible. He's literally maneuvered his cap space around this single signing for years.

But if they let this go into next year like they did Landeskog, the pressure is going to build so f***ing fast.

Yeah I’d be shocked if it did tbh. They’ve been anticipating this contract, almost to a fault, for way too long to miss out. I see this as two sides that will both compromise to make a deal work. Im sure MacKinnon realizes that his salary is going to impact the Avs ability to win, therefore he’ll probably take a bit of a discount. I don’t expect it to be much since he certainly deserves his pay day.

I would bet so much money it's done this summer. I would not be surprised at all if Sakic and Brisson already have a ballpark of a number at 8 years, though I'm not in the camp that MacKinnon takes a discount. I think he'll absorb all of EJ's money if not a bit more which will put him right around McDavid's price tag.

When you consider a variety of factors, that probably is a discount.

Yikes, people actually think 29 will leave?

I've had my fair share of hot takes on here, but this is a far bigger of a hot take than anything I've ever said.

Do you honestly think a team that has literally has been planning for his extension for 5 years, making sure they have plenty of money available is just going to let him walk?

Not to mention the fact, that where would he go and have a viable shot at a Cup? No Cup contender is going to be able to give him a major contract. We can, because we've planned for it.

Also do you think 29 is stupid enough to walk away from a team that has 92, 96, and 8 all locked up for multiple years? We've built a great team here and I can't see 29 walking from it.

I don't think he leaves but after winning 2 Cups and with the window closed :sarcasm: who knows.

No reason for him to sign early though
