Last year rentals with retetion:
Janmark went for a 2nd and 3rd
Foligno went for a 1st
Hall (+Lazar) for Bjork + 2nd
Savard for 1st and 3rd
Nemeth for a 4th
Palmeri + Zajac for 1st + 4th
Eric Staal for 3rd + 5th
None of them approach the level that Giroux plays at today... Avs don't have a 1st this year, so JTC + secondary prospect isn't going to be enough....
The problem for Philly is Giroux has a full NMC, and he's not just going to waive it to go any team. How many of the teams that are legit Cup contention this year (and there's maybe 5 at best) have the cap space and the collateral to pay a significant price for him? IMO, he's basically in the same boat the Taylor Hall was last year. If he says to Fletcher, "Hey, I want a legit shot at the Cup and the only 4 teams I will waive for are Colorado, Tampa, Carolina, and Florida." Then they are stuck negotiating with those 4 teams, and they will get what they can get or he won't get moved. IMO, I can't possibly think that he would even consider waiving for Minnesota, or Nashville, or NYR, or Pittsburgh, or even Toronto with all the shit going on in Canada with COVID restrictions (Rumors from Friedman and the like is hardly any players want to be moved to Canada right now). Vegas has zero space for him now that they have Eichel. I think it's a really short list that is in on him legitimately, and expecting a high return for a 34-year old rental isn't realistic.
I may be surprised in the end, but Claude controls where this whole thing goes, not the return Fletcher and Briere want.
