Was fine with the first tweet but dater is out to lunch if he thinks Compher/Barron and a 1st is too much for a rental. That’s about the going rate for a rental. I’d be fine with Barron/Helleson + JTC (for cap) + 1st for Giroux retained

I'd give up that package for rental Giroux as long as its not Barron. Barron included would kick the price up to retained.

For a rental? I think a rental package is more like JTC/secondary prospect/low 1st rounder. Otherwise its more like higher level prospect/3rd for a rental. I don't get all this talk of top prospect and a 1st for a rental that very well could go right back to Philly.

Last year rentals with retetion:

Janmark went for a 2nd and 3rd
Foligno went for a 1st
Hall (+Lazar) for Bjork + 2nd
Savard for 1st and 3rd
Nemeth for a 4th
Palmeri + Zajac for 1st + 4th
Eric Staal for 3rd + 5th

None of them approach the level that Giroux plays at today... Avs don't have a 1st this year, so JTC + secondary prospect isn't going to be enough....

The cost for pure rentals has gone up
The price for top players has gone up
The only thing that hasn’t is the salary cap.

Its frustrating because I thought Joe and Chris had done a really good job planning things out and building the team but the pandemic cap freeze really screwed everything up. We seem to have no room and it’s only going to get worse.

The only way we were getting Giroux is if we were the only team he was willing to waive to

I've been saying this the entire time and I fully believe it. Maybe if the list is only two teams, but I have zero faith Sakic wins a bidding war.

Giroux must be aware the East is a bloodbath and Avs are the only top Western team that can afford him. You have to hope that's what he wants.

Last year there were significantly less sellers. I agree I don't think 1st + JTC + Kaut is going to get it done, but I also don't think Sakic is willing to do Barron + 1st for only Giroux. Maybe Barron + 1st for Giroux + Braun.

Dater knows nothing. Wasn’t long ago he said Giroux to the Avs isn’t happening. He also said MacKinnon is playing Thursday night against Tampa, then deleted the tweet.

He’s a complete hack at this point. Eklund level

Especially since they took away his credentials. He has no direct contact with the team anymore, or at least that's what I have been led to believe.

He won the Kuemper bidding war.

You know what... he f***ing did. And as much as we bitch about the price for Kuemper, Edmonton doesn't look like they're having a lot of fun right now.

But Sakic was backed into a corner there and didn't have much of a choice. I don't think the trade deadline presents the same situation unless he knows Byram can't come back and JJ is still in the top four. You're not winning shit in the postseason with Jack Johnson in your top four.

The problem for Philly is Giroux has a full NMC, and he's not just going to waive it to go any team. How many of the teams that are legit Cup contention this year (and there's maybe 5 at best) have the cap space and the collateral to pay a significant price for him? IMO, he's basically in the same boat the Taylor Hall was last year. If he says to Fletcher, "Hey, I want a legit shot at the Cup and the only 4 teams I will waive for are Colorado, Tampa, Carolina, and Florida." Then they are stuck negotiating with those 4 teams, and they will get what they can get or he won't get moved. IMO, I can't possibly think that he would even consider waiving for Minnesota, or Nashville, or NYR, or Pittsburgh, or even Toronto with all the shit going on in Canada with COVID restrictions (Rumors from Friedman and the like is hardly any players want to be moved to Canada right now). Vegas has zero space for him now that they have Eichel. I think it's a really short list that is in on him legitimately, and expecting a high return for a 34-year old rental isn't realistic.

I may be surprised in the end, but Claude controls where this whole thing goes, not the return Fletcher and Briere want.

If Giroux turns it into a bidding war, then Joe will bow out rather quickly. He knows he can't afford to give up cost-controlled young players he needs for his roster in the next few years in Newhook, Barron, Byram, etc., and a few decent prospects and/or picks for a guy that will only be on his roster for 4 months.

I agree with this. Joe is not Pierre and I don’t think he will sacrifice the future for one shot at the cup. We all know it worked great with Pierre but remember how it was from like 2005-2015? Our drafting was even worse than it is now and I don’t think we graduated more than a player or two in that ten year span.

I doubt Braun being involved in the package would sway Sakic to give up Barron. He'd sooner just trade a 3rd for Braun straight up in a separate trade instead of giving up Barron.

It ultimately depends on how much Sakic likes Giroux. I don't think it's a likely trade, but I also don't see Philly accepting less since Giroux is willing to be shopped around a bit.

I've had a weird sense for a while now that Sakic and Bendar really really like Barron. Seems like every time they talk about him they're gushing.

I personally would trade Barron for Giroux, you just sign Helleson and fill that spot in the pipeline. But I'd bet money it's the other way around for Sakic.

I think we can land Crouse and Kessel for a reasonable price. This adds a veteran scorer and a solid two way forward that we can retain. It tremendously improves our depth and gives us much better depth.

To Col
Crouse
Kessel (50%)

To Az
Barron
Compher
2022 third
2023 second

Landy-MacK-Rantanen
Nuke-Kadri-Burakovsky
Crouse-Newhook-Kessel
NAK-Jost-LOC

I think adding a veteran defensive oriented 4C would also do wonders for this team, but not sure who we would target there.
Not a fan of giving up Barron for Crouse.
