GDT: 2021-22 season WESTERN CONFERENCE QUARTER FINALS Game 3 LA Kings vs Edmonton Oilers @7:00pm Series Tied 1-1

They ended the rebuild to quickly, it’s gotten us a fun season this year (no matter what happens) with some nice performances by veterans, but for the rebuild it wasn’t a great year. The ROI on major investments is a big concern.

If the Kings are contending for a cup in 3-years what do all the boxes look like? I still feel like there are multiple big holes that need to be filled and I’d rather be filling those with a top 8 pick than pick 18
Does it matter when none of their top picks since Doughty have done anything?

Hindsight is 20 20. There were a ton of doubt back then on the boards. There was constant debate about wether Kopitar and Brown were really top forwards.
Sure, but the problem is those guys are still in those roles that they were back then, except Brown but it took half the season for that change. In 2011 all the critical core pieces were already in the most important positions contributing. We're further off from 2011 than most people think, let alone a Carter trade

So true, no one knows who the champions and gamers are in the early days, you only know once it happens

I dunno, I think Spence looks like three oilers could be bearing down on him with chainsaws and he'd find a seam, Durzi is flawed but fearless, Mikey Anderson looks pretty close to dropping his superfluous 'y'

Amongst the forwards Kaliyev looks ready to ball out but he's not a two-way 1C/2C, used appropriately he's a 30 goal guy next year no question. I think all those guys have a role on a contending team.

I know they're paid, but even Bob Miller had those moments where he said they sucked and should be embarrassed.
I remember that but it was a totally different situation in my opinion.

To be angry at this group of players is absurd. I don't think anyone on this team isn't trying their hardest they just, to quote another poster, they just don't have the horses yet.

This team tried very hard to win the game tonight but it just wasn't there. It might not come back in time, I think it will, but f*** man we've been out of the playoffs for 4 years, what did people really expect?

I expect the first line to not concede almost every goal, figured that was a low bar, but when you have a franchise legend on his last legs paired with tweedle-dee and tweedle-dum, i guess shit happens

We just had two back to back top 5 worst performances in the team's history. That's not worthy of discussion because they have a lot of rookies on the team?

I think you need to parlay some of that talent into a more established NHL player. Another 18 year old player is probably not the solution

Doesn’t matter. The Chicago Bears haven’t had a good qb in decades with multiple busts but you absolutely need one so you can’t just stop drafting them.

That is the way it is with star forwards. You have to just keep trying to draft them.

That’s part of it, the other part is development and coaching. Not sure about the second part of the equation with Bluc hiring friends to oversee the prospects.

Can Kopitar say again "it doesn't matter if it's 8-2...it only counts as 1 loss"
It matters if it happened after '1 loss' that was 6-0.
And it matters to your fans that have endured years of suckage and want to see
players that fight like warriors, rather than ones that don't care how bad they lose.

No of course is worthy of discussion, that's why I'm here.

I just think the Kings put up 46 shots tonight, it's not lack of effort. I don't put this in the top 5, not close. I've been following this team for 25 years.

I absolutely agree, future seems brightest from random mid draft picks and trades and not high draft picks, you just never know. Spence is incredible.

I just wanted to beat the F**ken Oilers but realistically it wasn't going to happen so be it. Now that our season is pretty much done time to see what we do in the offseason.

Based on how the Kings are playing. It is really amazing how they made the playoffs. They struggle mightly in scoring goals and their defensive play isn't good at all. If the Oilers can make them look this bad, just think what the Avs would do to them. They would be losing 20-0
The Avs did do this to them late season - looked the same. The team is offensively incoherent. There is one line that has chem - and theyre missing 33. No one on the blue line has a slapshot. Maata and Edler are filler level d-man playing lots of minutes. The PP is so stunningly bad - every intermission show points it out and has for most of the season. But all that said, when they are playing the high energy check for chances which is supposedly the identity..they seem to hold their own 5x5.. Now they cant even do that.. and without decent goal tending, the special teams lopsidedness turns it into a blowout.. just venting, im sure you know all this
