Shit you can look it up here bud,

1 slapshot goal out of the 13....small sample size ok fine, 197 shots.....16 slapshots attempted....yep, you f***ing nailed it....5% of his shots are slapshots, yea let's stick him on the side for one timers....knowing that's not his strength

Do me a favor, can you link me Kaliyev's last NHL goal he scored on via slapshot....PP or otherwise.....
Sorry for interrupting you two.

But you statement alone shows the whole issue with the Kings.
Our style is to push people into the Kings system regardless their skillset instead of using players to their strength. Kaliev is constantly positioned on his off side which takes the option of one timers away.
This makes it a coaching issue and it's going on since years if not decades.

Vilardi is no winger and will never be. He is a pug hog with exceptional passing and playmaking skills.
Pair him with 2 wingers who are able to shoot a puck into a net and the magic will unfold
Same with Kupari, he will never be an effective winger.
Byfield belongs into the minors to bulk up a little learn how to connect speed with playing NHL hockey

Also why our only high end shooter plays 4th line and on the wrong side is far beyond me.

There is so much going on that actually works against youngster development and it shows in zero progress across all youngsters. If they work on their weakness you have a chance to become mediocre.
If they work on their strength, they can become special. It's up to the staff to choose which one

But hey, we at least remove chances for game breaking talent with fantasy playoff runs.

Not disagreeing with you, but AGAIN....Kaliyev's strength is NOT his overpowering slapshot....it's his deceptive release, not playing on the offside in a PP is not deriving him of his strength

The good thing about Kaliyev is he's deadly with all shots, agree that his release is the nastiest thing. I also dont' think slap shots are as big a deal in the modern NHL. Kaliyev also looks super comfortable with that left high setup where he can walk down the high slot and choose his shot.

I think overall the point is if you HAVE a weapon like Kaliyev and your PP sucks at least try some different looks. Rotate him around. He can shoot anything from anywhere. We saw it when Frk was called up, the thread of his bomb kept everyone honest and frankly cheating to him on the left side and it opened everything up for a couple of goals as I recall. Putting Kaliyev or really ANYONE in a spot with a one-time option can shake it up.

I keep hearing excuse after excuse from the resident Kaliyev ball garglers around here….whether it’s that he needs to be on the first line (which he has been for two games with no goals) or it’s that he has to be stationed on the right side for a one timer….no one can just say that he’s doing fine and will get better with experience…weird.

It does take some balls to deliberately ignore the post that pointed out he's PPG since moving to the top line after 3 points in his last 15 on the 4th.

I will say this about that. When a forward has time and space, like on the power play, you always want to have the puck on your off wing, because there is more net to shoot at, and better angles. It is basic geometry.

So, yeah it is a coaching thing.

The only reason a winger wants to play on his same-handed wing is to win puck battles on the boards. Whenever you are shooting, you prefer your off-wing.

100% different argument, and yea, agree if it's not working change it etc, they have before...but only in tiny tiny increments....

Frk is a completely different shooter....so it made sense....

What a clown show to witness live. I've been dating this lady 2 months and took her to the game - her first game. She probably still does not understand offsides or icing....but she was astute at what she saw between the two teams.
"LA is very small, looks weak, cannot control the puck or play...the goalie looks like he has no confidence. Who is the leader of this team? (lol) I can see the Avs seem to have leaders...they have cohesion and look like they are very skilled at all parts of the game. They are much bigger and control the puck and everything they do""

She then asked, "why don't you switch teams...you live here"

1 for 16 on slapshots....again, that's his strength lol

How is he supposed to take slapshots when he's not on his off-wing? When he plays on the left side, he has to receive the puck and then turn towards the net to shoot, which leaves plenty of time for the goalie to setup, the opposing forward to get in the shooting lane, and the opposing defeneseman time to tie up in front of the net.

None of that can happen if he can get one-timers off. No one is saying he's going to score every damn shot he takes from his off wing, but our PP is so bad it's insulting not to try something else.

I would describe the biggest current Kings problems this way.

They do not have goalies’ team can relay in every game

3 of LA defensemen cannot play on high level:

Stetcher is not capable to play in NHL, period

Edler is not capable to play in NHL anymore

Roy has very low hockey IQ despite his good skills and physicality

Problem with defense can be fixed with Toby and Anderson, but until LA will have elite goalie capable to steal games from teams like Colorado Kings are doomed.

Sooo....just like NYR, who Col blew the doors off? Or is it like Col who Tor blew the doors off?

Complete overreaction on one game

You call this statement (“Kings do not have goalies’ team can relay in every game”) complete overreaction on one game?

I guess we are watching different teams.

Vilardi looks so very AHL. It's so sad. I know he has skill. Maybe he's a center. Don't know what the answer is for him. I think he would do well on the PP. He has good vision, good passing skills and a good shot.

Need a new first line. Kopitar - I really do not know what he will be like, the next 2 years, but he cannot be 1C.
Anyone that thinks that he can possibly play beyond the next 2 years is crazy. No possible way. He's so slow and will only get slower and less effective. He's lost his Selke level play as well. Has ZERO JAM to his game.
Need a new leader and captain for 22-23. Seriously.

From what I’ve seen, good power plays feature a lot of movement.

If the Kings players are mostly standing around waiting for the perfect pass and shooting lane to open up, does it even matter where Kaliyev is positioned?

Not even mad about this loss or the blowout. You could see this bloodbath coming in December. The team was gassed, right from the start. The Avs never left our zone for the first 4 min, until they scored.

Watching the two pp side by side, it was like a Ferrari vs a Pinto;
The Ferrari was just racing around the track, hitting all the corners at top speed. While the Pinto moved around the track with one wobblily wheel, a bumper hanging off and 2 primmered doors.

Both goalies have played well at various parts of the season, but let's be realistic: Quick's 2.72 GAA (19th in the league) and .906 SV% (29th in the league) is better than Petersen's 2.90 GAA (28th in the league) and .895 SV% (49th in the league), and neither is desirable.

The Kings have reliable goaltending in that they'll give below-average stats most games.

Agreed.
I think they MUST find a goalie in another orgnization...it will take too long to draft a top goalie and develop them, for what they need NOW.

In the past, they were able to get Bishop, Kuemper and Campbell. Bishop was still very good for a few years, once he moved on. Kuemper has been good, since they dealt him to AZ. Campbell was great for 2 more years, once he left. None of those cost much. (Cernak was costly, though. But unlike MOST King prospects, he reached his potential)

They need to get another one, this Summer. One that can be ready as #1 by 23-24. (when Quick is retired and NO, should not get another year, under ANY circumstances. He's done as a goalie that can lead the Kings to the playoffs)
Still draft one in the early rounds, if a good one is there. Not feeling Villalta, Ingham, Parik or Hrenak will be a #1.
You never know, but need a Wallstedt or Spencer Knight for sure, if can draft one.

Toby and Anderson are much better than some of the ones out there now. I hope Clarke can be ready next year. He's going to make a difference. Durzi needs a modicum of defensive aptitude and hope that comes.
Edler and Stetcher must be let go, for certain. Maatta has been a little better. but move on...need his 3.3 million towards a forward.

Roy does have low IQ, but pretty solid. I hate that when he has the puck in the ozone, he will choose to shoot, if he can...and they are always 0% chance shots, that are 65 mph from 50+ feet. He almost always can pass to someone open...or why not hold the puck 1-2 extra seconds to try another option. But his shots are always swallowed up and the ozone time dies, instantly. Rarely see a rebound from one of his weak shots. All plays die....where he could have made a pass to a superior offensive player.

It's not even slap shots/one timers for Kaliyev. Snipers benefit more from playing their off wing, because their forehand shots have a better angle at the net.

Place the puck in the same spot, the off-wing gets more power at more net.

I thought those pretending to be smarter than everyone else would know that (though I have the geniuses on ignore, so maybe I'm misunderstanding the discussion).

There's a direct correlation between Sturm arriving and the Kings special teams falling off a cliff.
