Are we buyers or sellers at the trade deadline? With our wealth of prospects, I think we can be both. Should be interesting.
Hope Blake makes moves like Dean made in 2009 (when he got Williams for OSully) and San Jose in 2013 (trading away some veterans opening spots for the younger players and adressing some smaller needs, like Raffi Torres)

Pretty much the story tonight. Some better stuff than the other night, but still clear issues. Might be on the verge of a turnaround, might lose another game or two before righting the ship. But I felt better about the 'direction' during this game even in a loss than during the Seattle game in a win.

But Kopitar and Doughty...need to give their heads a shake. Part of it is just stupid heartless mistakes...but those are probably made because of course Kopitar played nearly 23 minutes again and Doughty 28.

Can have all the talent in the world but give me a fresh, hungry kid over 28 minutes of press-clippings Doughty right now. Someone else mentioned the streak started after he went down, it's pretty clear there are guys pulling in different directions right now...

With the logjam at center, Blake should have traded him last offseason. Now his trade value is pretty low.
I agree. I said this before - if you're going to trade for Danault who I like a lot, then move some of the center prospects for left D or winger.. now it will be hard to showcase Vilardi at the NHL level to get his trade value up... someone said its a good problem to have 7 center prospects - that i think is wrong, you have guys not getting reps and cant increase their trade value as u pointed out

I missed the first two periods because of work. How did Byfield and Fagemo look?
Byfield was much, much more confident than last year. Once he gets stronger he is going to have that rare MacKinnon power and grace combo that puts everyone on their heels. Looked stronger in cycles as well, was generally threatening every time he touched the puck.

Fagemo had a better night, he has a game similar to Arvidsson in that everything he does, including his passing, is designed to get himself open in the slot for a quick shot attempt. He forces it now, but given time he should learn where the spaces are to get that extra half second. Right now a lot of attacking shifts end on his stick with deflected or blocked shot attempts. But the good thing is that he is playing aggressively instead of waiting and watching things sort out around him.

The stuff Byfield can do in small spaces backs people off, too...so they can't just OVERplay him either. He's a single handed 'keep the D honest' weapon when he's on.

Some of the stuff the other prospects struggle a lot with--getting the puck off the boards cleanly on a breakout, he did at a higher level than anyone on the team tonight.

What’s our record with Marc Bergevin?

Edmonton seems like a prime trading partner right now.

for my money, byfield was the best player tonight wearing a kings sweater

ive changed my mind

Kempe - Byfield - Vilardi
Turcotte - Kopitar - Kaliyev
Iafallo - Danault - Arvidsson
Lemieux - Lizotte - Moore

the shit byfield and kempe could do together... chefs kiss dot gif

At the end of the day, this fan base needs to hope that games like this serve as a reality check for management.

Players like Q and Durzi are absolute gems, but the performance tonight needs to cement how far this team is from actually competing, while simultaneously showing how the ole guard aren’t gonna be the ones to steer the ship to that new era of success.

I don’t know if it’s the fault of coaching, because it hasn’t happened in a couple months, but the last 3 games seems to be brain farts galore. Insane breakdowns vs San Jose and Tampa, then this game with the blind pass to the middle in your own zone. Then Durzi and Kaliyev not realizing the player was coming out of the box, don’t know if I heard Quick tapping his stick either.

It’s really like the team got to 2nd and thought “hey this is it” or “we don’t need to be in the game mentally”.

But it does give me some hope because brain farts can be worked out.

Doughty shows shot more than any other player on the Kings. He telegraphs so much that he might as well tell the goalies where he's shooting just to make sure they know

He took 3 seconds to get that shot off. Durzi by comparission, .5 from stick to shot.

just the brown and maatta problems resolving themselves

i can live with some of the other guys making mistakes but it's just sooooooooo f***in many from those 2

yeah, because removing those two will fix our top pp unit, and pk , right? Those two issues are killing this team right now. 4 out of the 5 pp had ZERO SHOTS ! Back to back to back games giving up the first goal because of a bad penalty, then followed up by a shorty ...AGAIN ! That shorty killed the team once again. game over.period! Another self inflicted loss!
