If Maata was handcuffed that tells you more about Maata than anything else. Was it a perfect pass, no. But it definitely wasn’t a “handcuffing” pass.

It was on his backhand, against his direction of travel, into the middle of the ice.

It literally couldn’t be any worse of a pass, short of just saucing it to the red line for Hedman to pick up.

A skill play from Maatta could cancel out that abomination of a pass, but let’s not pretend it was anything short of awful.

It was an unobstructed pass, best not to put that on a guys backhand at the blueline. Maatta blew it for sure, but he wasn't going to be able to make a quality play off that pass even if he handled it cleanly.
