It was on his backhand, against his direction of travel, into the middle of the ice.
It literally couldn’t be any worse of a pass, short of just saucing it to the red line for Hedman to pick up.
A skill play from Maatta could cancel out that abomination of a pass, but let’s not pretend it was anything short of awful.
It was an unobstructed pass, best not to put that on a guys backhand at the blueline. Maatta blew it for sure, but he wasn't going to be able to make a quality play off that pass even if he handled it cleanly.
Best case scenario there, was a stationary Maatta receiving the puck on his backhand with a defender closing on him with speed.NHL players have no problem receiving a pass on their backhand, especially defensemen, it literally happens 50 times a game. Shit beer leaguers could receive that pass. Worst case, atleast touch the puck!!
Oh no question it wasn’t a good pass. But a semi competent defenseman gets something on the puck, so the opponent does go on a clean breakaway the other way.
The pp looks worse without Kempe
They just come out of the gate so measured, like they want to ease into the game most nights instead of dictating the pace.Down 1-0 to a team playing at 1030pm their time jet lagged with only 4 dmen, 3 after sergachev went down the hall. 4 shots on goal, 0 scoring chances.
These guys stopped playing real hockey the moment they won vs. Pittsburgh. Just absolute shit since then, right back to looking like the feeble team that can't play a system and won't take a hit for anyone.
We are gonna need an entire new thread to address the self inflicted issues the PP is working with. There are only 2 players on this team who can enter zone like Kempe does: Turcotte and Kupari.
They are not on PP…
