It is very difficult for the rest of the team to perform when your goalie allows goal on every other shot.
I love Quick, but he was horrible in this game.
So you're laying it all at his feet, got it. No one else can do wrong.

Goal 1: Open in the circle, undefended.
Goal 2: Undefended in the slot.
Goal 3: Screened
Goal 4: Quick makes the first two saves, but Meiers gets a third chance once again undefended.
Goal 5: Right circle, undefended.
Goal 6: Undresses the defender and shoots from the slot.

None of these goals are the typical Quick is having a bad night goal where he's swimming around in the crease unaware of the puck or overplaying every shot. These are complete defensive breakdowns many of which involve Quick making saves with the defense being completely unable to respond to it.

I wouldn't put much thought into it. The Sharks always seem to embarrass Quick every now and then but Quick always gets the last laugh. I can see a couple of years from now the Kings and Sharks getting into the playoffs. Old man Quick was finally dethroned as a starter but due to injuries he gets a start in the deciding game and and unapologetically Goalie'd the Sharks so much that all their coaching staff plus Doug Wilson gets fired immediately after the game.

Sucks that they have to try and bounce back from this game against freakin TB, but they should've thought of that before laying an egg today.

They actually laid the egg the previous game. It just hatched today.

3 games in 4 with travel (and 4 in 6) vs. TBL tomorrow, lmao. These f***ing assholes just can't do anything the easy/smart way, they have to shotgun themselves in the face first.

Kupari needs some AHL time. Fagemo looks more refined than Kupari even in a total circus game. Turcotte throwing his body into a pile of dudes and coming out with the puck only to find Brown hasn't even gained the blueline yet and Kupari is chasing his tail doing nothing is getting old.

PP2 should be PP1 and vice versa. Frankly Kopitar should have nothing to do with PP1 right now. It's clear that he's hurt, gassed, or just old. And PP2 keeps getting 30s or less and doing more.

Kempe is vital, hopefully he's just protocol'ed and not very ill.

TBL is too soon, otherwise when Kempe is back i'd say

Iafallo-Kopitar-Kempe/Fagemo
Moore-Danault-Arvidsson
Turcotte-Byfield-Kempe/Fagemo (Vilardi?)
Lemieux-Lizotte-Kaliyev

Brown can sit his worthless ass down. It was very clear today when the Kings aren't just flat out outskating the opponent to carry the play who is lagging behind and it was constantly Brown throwing pucks at feet and just generally being nothing but a speedbump. Kaliyev had a rough game too but it was an outlier for him at least. Everyone else was at least around the puck busting their tails.
I don't think it's time to pull out the secret weapon just yet.

1st goal he either didn't see the pass or misread the play and was late coming across. It was almost an open net goal.

One of the goals was below the circle on a bad angle.

One or two others he was probably giving up too much over the shoulders.

The team was bad in the defensive zone no question, but Quick was equally bad if not worse. He didn't make 1 decent looking save. Just looked like he wasn't tracking the puck well at all and was trying to find the puck between the legs the whole game.

We call that first goal a one-timer. Something Doughty almost messed up later in the game. Shots to the top corners are prime scoring spots for any shooters. Goalies aren't really expected to make those saves. It's usually a highlight save when they do. I looked at every goal multiple times. Yeah it would have been nice if Quick robbed a couple of those but then it's just a 4-2 loss and not a 6-2 loss. The Kings didn't make it hard at all to tee off on Quick. But if it's easier for you to blame him, go for it.

I feel the Arvy penalty killed us. Thought we can at least make a game of it but that penalty did it. Our specialty team coach should go to Covid protocol for the year.

I thought the early penalty hurt them the most. They were playing well, lots of shots, had a few cycles, then kaliev sort of held him , followed by the shark dive that sold it the play. No pro player should go down like that so easily. The kings gave them an easy pp goal and the sharks were into the game. Got ever bounce after that, and they all went in.

Meiers was so wide open for the one timer, I swear I thought they were on a 5 on 3. Quick was screen twice and then bumped into the sharks guy in front before coming across. Great shooter won't miss those, ever.

The first goal was not a one-timer. Meier is a left shot playing the left point. He crept down to the top of the slot when he received the pass. It did look like there was some traffic in front and Quick didn't see the pass and was late getting across.

Other than the bad angle goal, I wouldn't necessarily call any of the others bad goals but this is the NHL and your goalie needs to make some big saves over the course of a game.
And he was certainly crouching to find pucks much more than usual, and he got beat over the shoulder a few times as a result.

I'm not sure why some are up in arms about people criticizing Quick for having a bad game.
Quick had a bad game and the defensive zone play was sloppy. Both can be true at the same time.

I like McClellan's comments after this game, he recognized that the Kings as a whole were mostly unable to get in to the inside, and the Sharks did really good keeping them out. All the shots in the world don't matter too much when you can't get to the scoring zones.

I think that tells me a big difference between MC and Sutter, whereas after a game like this, Sutter would say something like "We were playing our game, puck just didn't go in". It's a promising sign of a change of mindset from shot volume to shot quality (and volume)
