GDT: 2021-22 season game 22 LA Kings vs Calgary Flames @7:30pm 12/2/21

Multiple coaches and the same problems still exist. Let’s stop blaming the coaches and look at the damn players. They’re the only common denominator at this point. If the kids are gonna learn, let them learn, this notion that losing breeds losing we can’t trade Kopitar or Doughty because we have no replacement bs is a self fullfilling prophecy. Move the tired core, let the kids have the reigns.
My thinking exactly...for around 4-5 years.

I generally agree. I don't think we can blame TM for how the vets are playing. But we can blame TM for not playing the kids. Why is JAD not called up? He was a stud last season and gave so much life to the team. I can name others that should be in the lineup as well that are in Ontario. The one thing we do know is that the young players haven't gotten coaches fired. We need to sack TM, get max return on Kopi/DD/Brown, and fully transition the team to the young players. The good thing is Blake got Arvi and Danault, which I think are good vets to keep around and insulate the young players. We also have quasi-vets in Iafallo and Kempe still on the team so it won't be full of rookies.

I always thought it was Nickson who said he wanted to stay in the booth. I don't have a problem with our guys, except at times, Jim talks more than he needs, something Bob could always keep in check.

Fox needs to stfu, seriously. I can't take it anymore. He cant even finish a sentence because he cuts himself off before finishing a thought. Not only that, the guy needs to chill the f out. Is it possible for him to just talk normally into the mic? He is ALWAYS yelling into the mic. I also feel like his breakdown of nearly every-single-play can be toned down a bit. Bob kept him in check and Fox has completely flown off the handle since his retirement.

If it is true that the Kings wanted to go a "different direction", thus not giving Nick the tv gig, they can continue to go F themselves. Because the direction this franchise is going royally sucks. WTF is going on with the branding of this team?!?

Oh I know it, we've seen even Frolov execute it well

Not sure I want it ruled interference as the vast majority of cases are a player actually steeling up and protecting themselves but I get what you're saying. In some cases the intent is clearly to drop your checker.

I think if a player uses their ass or lower body than I am ok with it. Its when they lean back with their upper body or get the elbow out there i start shaking my head.

What's the big deal? Clague's been in the system for years, had three seasons to lock down a spot, and been passable at best, outmuscled a lot. He's not a difference-maker, so why get all bent out of shape when a #6/7 D goes on waivers?

Anybody give a crap where Paul LaDue is right now? Because that situation is pretty much the same as this, only two years ago.

Ladue was 6th round pick who was passed over twice in the draft and wasn't called up to the NHL until his mid 20s. Clague was mid 2nd round pick who has shown better at the NHL level than the AHL and is now getting waived again in favor of Maatta who we all know isn't going to be on the team next year. I'm not saying Clague is a future #2 defenseman, but in all honesty its not good asset management. Its one thing to prefer Muzzin over Hickey because Muzzin was better player despite the draft pedigree. I don't think many will agree Maatta is better to have than Clague at this point.

5 points in 11 games, playing like a top 4 dman on this roster by all metrics, has been dicked around by the kings on at least 3 occasions, now going on 4--in favor of Wolanin and f***ing maatta.

Even if he's not long for the roster it's the symbolism--of piss poor asset management and piss poor player evaluation.

If Clague was getting outplayed by everybody and stagnating, sure. But:
1. Clague has easily outplayed Maattaa.
2. Clague has improved

I was at the game last night. There was a DJ last night instead of Dieter Ruehle...Danault's line rules. Kopi's line sucks ass. Brown isn't just an anchor anymore, he's the Titanic moored to it. When's the last time Petersen outplayed his counterpart? Will he ever again?

I think they wanted to make it Jim's booth and they brought in the perfect guy for that, a young guy no one had heard of. Bringing in Nickson would have made it Nick's booth.

Either way, the Kings are right up there as the worst broadcast duo in the league right now, it's painful to listen to a lot of nights.
The only area of the broadcast that’s done well is the intermission team. Stoll has been a good addition and I haven’t seen Armstrong in awhile, hopefully he’s been let go.

Don’t really care about Carrylyn, since the player answers are 99% canned answers. Pointless segment IMO.

top paid coach to not make the playoffs or play the kids
Heat needs to be on management not coaching IMO. Bluc has built this roster and hired the current coach after hiring two other coaches that also failed.

We’re not going to just magically hire a coach and make a run for the cup like we did with Sutter. We need to go back to the culture that DL built. A culture of caring about the logo and your teammates, outworking the opposing team etc.

I don’t know what kind of identity or culture that Bluc are trying to establish currently. They never talk about it.

I really think it's a just dollar issue. They can't bury Maata in the minors for 3 mil or just scratch him, too much money tied up. The only asset he has over Clague is games played. It sucks the position he's in, but to be honest with you , he hasn't done anything as a pro. Sure he's had a few good games, but then what? He just hasn't shown anything in my eyes. Maybe everyone else is seeing something I 'm not , but I just don't get all the mad love the guy gets. Durzi, flaws and all has done something Clague hasn't, gets shots on net, move the puck cleanly and score on the pp. He's running the 2nd pp now. This in just 5 games. The Clague I'd hope we all saw at the WJC years ago isn't there, something is missing. To me, he's really tentative most nights, especially on offense, always the safe play, won't move the puck into scoring areas. Someone brought up Ladue, that's who he reminds me of, or Gravel. The talents there but the rest isn't. I wonder if he'd been drafted in the 4th or 5th round peoples attitudes would be different.
