GDT: 2021-22 season game 22 LA Kings vs Calgary Flames @7:30pm 12/2/21

Because..?
We are a rebuilding team, not the Leafs , Avs or some other contender with a stacked team who have been losing a lot.
You are lying and you know it. They are not a contender but over the rebuild hump. They came out and said they expect playoffs and went out and spent to the cap on some veterans with term.
Zero rookies in the top six and none have been given a look there or called up to play there yet this season.
1 rookie in the top 9 in Kupari whos been stapled to players like Moore in a grinder role.
Nothing they have done this season resembles a rebuilding team. They thought they were competing.
Theres still a little time to turn it around this season but quit lying please.

I really think it's a just dollar issue. They can't bury Maata in the minors for 3 mil or just scratch him, too much money tied up. The only asset he has over Clague is games played. It sucks the position he's in, but to be honest with you , he hasn't done anything as a pro. Sure he's had a few good games, but then what? He just hasn't shown anything in my eyes. Maybe everyone else is seeing something I 'm not , but I just don't get all the mad love the guy gets. Durzi, flaws and all has done something Clague hasn't, gets shots on net, move the puck cleanly and score on the pp. He's running the 2nd pp now. This in just 5 games. The Clague I'd hope we all saw at the WJC years ago isn't there, something is missing. To me, he's really tentative most nights, especially on offense, always the safe play, won't move the puck into scoring areas. Someone brought up Ladue, that's who he reminds me of, or Gravel. The talents there but the rest isn't. I wonder if he'd been drafted in the 4th or 5th round peoples attitudes would be different.

Rhetorical question here: why do you suppose that is?

Is it possibly because he's watched legions of prospects get sacrificed to the two-way altar of Bob Gainey when they made a bad pass and he's just trying to stay in the NHL?

Heat needs to be on management not coaching IMO. Bluc has built this roster and hired the current coach after hiring two other coaches that also failed.

We’re not going to just magically hire a coach and make a run for the cup like we did with Sutter. We need to go back to the culture that DL built. A culture of caring about the logo and your teammates, outworking the opposing team etc.

I don’t know what kind of identity or culture that Bluc are trying to establish currently. They never talk about it.
i say get rid of them all.

Yep, this organization beats the creativity out of it's young players. They play in fear of ever making a mistake because they will be put on the 4th line, scratched, or sent off to Ontario. This organization preaches bland and safe two way responsibility over EVERYTHING else, no matter what skills you possess.

The only area of the broadcast that’s done well is the intermission team. Stoll has been a good addition and I haven’t seen Armstrong in awhile, hopefully he’s been let go.

Don’t really care about Carrylyn, since the player answers are 99% canned answers. Pointless segment IMO.
carrlyn's questions always make me laugh, they're so nonsensical and just begging for canned answers

that's the thing though, while that may be the end result that we're seeing, that's not what we were sold by management. they said this team would compete and they're failing. the coach bears some responsibility for that

i'm not gonna come out and say that a coaching change is gonna make any difference given that they ran through several already, but there are some festering problems at hand here

What's the big deal? Clague's been in the system for years, had three seasons to lock down a spot, and been passable at best, outmuscled a lot. He's not a difference-maker, so why get all bent out of shape when a #6/7 D goes on waivers?

Anybody give a crap where Paul LaDue is right now? Because that situation is pretty much the same as this, only two years ago.
What’s the big deal? Ollie f***ing Maatta. That’s what.

The Olli Maatta experiment has been worse than the Kovalchuk one. At least Kovy still managed to put up points in a 3rd/4th line role.

Maatta was suppose to be our shutdown top 4D to play with Doughty.

He's not even an NHL caliber defensemen anymore.

TMac definitely deserves criticism, but this core has shown these inconsistencies far too many times to single out the coach again. TMac absolutely needs to make heads roll after that gutless performance though. Just lazy, uninspired, lifeless play without any heart. At this point I'd throw Rudy Lizotte on the first line because he is like the only guy out there playing like the game is worth a damn. It actually may be time to shop the veterans...

Imaging sitting Kopitar and Brown and having Lizotte center the first line. Glorious message sent. And if they f***ing pout, ship em off!

It was time awhile back after they gave up during he beginning of John Stevens second season, actually during that preseason when it was apparent these “core” guys didn’t do shit during the off-season. Just loafed around.

Matt Roy is a steadily declining asset. Time to cash out.

Mikey Anderson keeps choking at critical junctures. He seems to have plateaued. Cash out before the rest of the league finds out how overrated he is.

I'll give Cal the rest of this year but he has been brutal all season

Brown needs to retire end of season for the sake of his teammates because as long as he's on the roster TM will not scratch him

Oh I know it, we've seen even Frolov execute it well

Not sure I want it ruled interference as the vast majority of cases are a player actually steeling up and protecting themselves but I get what you're saying. In some cases the intent is clearly to drop your checker.

That's one play I'd like to be eliminated. Too many guys are getting hurt, hell even last night, Doughty almost took it to the head again, with an on purpose hit. It's just seems too east to nail a guy who going after the puck. and not expecting to get nailed. Like when the puck goes up in the air, you can't clean out a guy waiting for it to drop anymore because it's too dangerous and guys were getting hurt.

My position hasn't changed - I'm strongly AGAINST TM being fired. It accomplishes nothing.

I would approve it only if everyone else is sent packing too. Totally clear house and get a fresh viewpoint. Someone like Jeff Gorton would have been interesting because he's obviously very experienced and has had success BUT is also an outsider.

The absolute worst would be a coaching change, totally pointless. It's not TM.

This was a team that was supposed to be a playoff challenging roster. The win streak notwithstanding this has been a terrible team that is only on pace for 82 points because of that streak. A team looking to take the next step beats Arizona, they just do. Still a bottom third offense. Power play is average. Penalty kill is terrible. This is an average team at BEST.

The lack of toughness is a major concern. The locker room must know it, that must be a reason why Lemieux is liked so much. There's only one guy that will roll up his sleeves and do the dirty. Probably a reason he drives someone like Brady insane because he's the one guy pushing back.

Calling up the kids now is pointless too, I just don't see it. Keep them in Ontario and they'll keep winning. This team stinks and the last thing we need is some emboldened douchebag taking a run at one of them during some pointless Tuesday game. Unless it's Doty, I'd bring him up.

Lying, really, which part? are we not still bring up young guys to play, isn't that part of a rebuild on a team that has no success in 8 years? Or do you you see rebuilding differently? We brought two guys in to help fast track it, intagrated some rookies, and now learning what more needs to be done. Until we make the playoffs, and the young guys show they can cut it, guess what, we are still rebuilding. Blake and co said they expect to fight for a playoff spot, they still are. there was no "we going to make the playoff for sure" type mantra. You bring up Kupari, who so far has shown he's only good at diving He's the 3rd line center with no hockey IQ or can win a draw. a one trick pony who can skate, and nothing else. He's had one good game , game 3 I think, and sucked the other 21 games. He won't shoot the puck, , hell most nights he can't even make a clean breakout pass, so yeah, lets put him at #1/#2 center and increase his icetine. There's also a reason we don't have any rookies in the top 6, they just aren't good enough yet, show me one rookie who is better than anyone in the top 6 [other than Brown], no really, please do. Next time you accuse someone of lying, back up better than the week ass attempt you did bud.

I agree, TM is not the issue. I really don't know what is. This team, as doughty pointed out, "just cant score since he's been there" . 5 plus coaches and 3 gms since 2006 , and it's still an issue. I agree with toughness. it's non existent, and we get pushed around too easily.

Oh man, for a while, it was like the no fair catch rule

Bud a couple 4th liners on the team have as many goals as Arvidsson and more than Danault. Isnt that something for a team that needs goalscorers?
Since when is fighting for playoffs rebuilding? If Kupari isnt the answer for you then thats fine. The team is the one drafting and developing all these divers and scrubs that dont deserve to play next to precious Anze. Thats a fail on the organization along with their soft performance. What has to happen for you to say this is not a good direction or product were witnessing?

Kupari isn't the answer for anyone right now except a select few who seem to think he's gonna be a top scoring center. He lucked into the spot when Byfield went down, and has plenty of time to show the org what he can do. He's shown he's not an NHL player or at least not here. As a center he should be able to drive the play once in a while, you know, carry the puck up ice , make a move, then dish it to a winger for a shot. He just can't at this level and there are plenty of good 3rd line centers around the league who can do this simple thing. Danualt has made the other guys better , and we actually have a 2nd line that produces. It ain't about how many goals one guy has, it's about what one guy does for the others around him. All the guys on his line are producing. That is our best line right now.

Yes that is the best line. It looked best with Kempe on the right wing. Not sure what you are getting at?
The team plays good sometimes and their breakout looks better than the last couple years. But how can you be ok with the Calgary game? They dont play for each other. Havent in years. Thats on the leadership and the core. Theres no dancing around it any longer. I dont love Kupari and doubt hell be here when they are ready to compete. But the problem with the team right now is not Kupari.

Melrose thinks TM should be fired.

I think Rob Blake should be fired.

I absolutely despise the type of team he's building and his talk about being a better team and making the playoffs is a joke.

It seems plain as day to a lot of us here that this team is barely a playoff team let alone remotely anything close to a SC contender.

He wants a fast, skilled team from top to bottom, but they certainly don't play fast, they aren't very skilled and they're soft as charmin ultra.

And the concept of the prospects has been beaten to death but it's another dart on the board. People can have an opinion on Todd, but if his boss is telling him the goal is the playoffs he's not going to rely on rookies to do it.

There are no words to describe the level of disdain I have for Blake as the GM.
