Only game 2 of 82. We’ll have a clearer picture 10-15 games in. I’m guessing VGK is feeling the effects of those long playoff runs and short off-seasons.

Some positives from the loss last night and coming off the season opening home stand…

Scored the first goal and it came on the PP. They drew 4 penalties and only gave up 1, which they killed off. That’s a strong start after two games. 3/6 on the PP and only two penalties taken so far with no goals given up.

Kopitar and Doughty with 7 and 6 points respectively, putting them atop the league leaders board.

They split the two home games against teams who made the playoffs last year. 3 points would have been outstanding, but two points is respectable.

Heat map looked decent with the majority of high danger chances coming right in front of the net.

Vilardi seems to lose all confidence without his regular line mates. He really needs Lias to come back, especially since he was a forchecking machine, just made so much space for Vilardi to get looks out there. He looks so rushed without him.

I am done with Lizotte as a King, he's a blackhole offensively and doesn't do anything impressive on defense either. This HAS to be his last year as a regular with JAD, Byfield and Kupari as better options for 4th line C.

Lemieux was noticeably missed last night, he does a lot of little things no one else will do on the team and constantly battles every shift, honestly when I heard Kupari was playing I was hoping for:
Moore - Kupari - Lemieux

Minnesota doesn't play the sexiest game but man it's effective, they make it hell breaking in to the offensive zone, didn't seem to matter which line they played they were all on the same page on defense, I missed count how many times we lost possession in their zone.
Another strong game for Lizotte, another misplaced round of complaining.

You want him out of the lineup, get two centers to outplay him. Hasn't happened yet. Certainly not by Vilardi, and it sure as shit won't be Kupari.

22 minutes for Kopitar last night.

Kings only had a couple lines working, and that was the issue.

The second PP unit also not working.

Kings will continue to tinker with the lineup until they get a functioning 3rd line.

IMO, we need one or two of Turcotte/Byfield/JAD to give us quality center play so we can shift Vilardi to wing.

We have different opinions of a strong game then, I must have been seeing something else lol

Anderson-Dolan outplayed him last year playing fewer minutes and Vilardi had a strong preseason before Lias A. got hurt. You honestly want Lizotte dressed over those two? Can you at least concede that Byfield should be in his spot when back from injury?

At some point, they should also consider sending Vilardi to the AHL. He shouldn't be immune. He's waiver exempt.

King’s have too many soft or young forwards. Sending Vilardi up or down or recalling Kupari and putting him on the 4th line won’t help. We need a Mason Mctavish type player. The Ducks have a few in Max Jones and Mason to go along with Deslauries and Manson.

Trade a 5th rounder for this guy and role Clifford-Moore-Lemieux :naughty:

Read the GDT and decided this is good one to delete from the DVR.

I said I'd give em 20 games to sort it out and I meant it.

Sounds like Vilardi had another "i'm lost without my forechecking winger" game which tells me and pretty much f***ing everyone but TM that he's a winger that's gonna excel once he's with a stronger skating center like Byfield or Turcotte (or Danault).

Other than Tkachev, almost every other newcomer/youngster is laying a fat goose egg.

I’m not ringing any alarm bells. But we need just one of these kids to breakthrough this year. We have a lot bluechip prospects at the age where bluechips should be breaking through.

Well, who are the bluechips? Byfield made it, but died. Clarke got mono and went back to juniors. Turcotte is absolutely tearing it up, but would you rather him get top minutes in Ontario and further develop his offense, or come up and sit on the 4th line? Kaliyev is a sniping winger who like Vilardi needs a skating C. Do you consider any of the others true blue chips? I think on most other teams Thomas (uninjured), Madden, et. al. are all getting a cup of coffee but I prefer them getting big Ontario minutes than winging for Lizotte at this stage. I'm confident that after the halfway pole we'll see most of those guys up as the others will have played themselves out imo.

Edit: or maybe you also mean Vilardi, who I agree on, we need him to start coming thru but he's starting to look like an inconsistent 50 point winger than his Jason Allison ceiling.

It took Allison about 100 NHL games and a trade to Boston to get on track. Vilardi has played 66 NHL games. Vilardi is much better than Allison was with the Caps. Give him some time.

The level of hysteria with some of you is impressive. Go Kings Go :pickle::banana:
Yeah, it's actually quite funny to read. Coming off the preseason, Brown/Kopi/DD needed to be put out to pasture or an old folks home. Meanwhile Vilardi with his great preseason was the real deal again and #1 line man. Now just 2 games in, Vilardi needs to be demoted to Ontario, DD is headed to the Olympics, Kopi is a hockey God and Brown is a scoring/hitting machine. I can't wait to read what game 3 brings

Good country music.

22 minutes is up there for sure, but the difficulty of those minutes was down. Danault was out there killing penalties and taking D-Zone faceoffs when Kopitar usually would've been doing it. Kopitar also got some hefty PP minutes whereas Danault barely got any.

I agree that we still need one of the blue-chip C prospects to breakthrough (it'll be Byfield IMO), but I think we've already started to see how beneficial Danualt will be to Kopitar.

If Kopi, Brown and Arvidsson don't score not even sure who will. This team will have trouble scoring again this season and we're just gonna have to get use to it. Young Prospects are going to need time so not going to expect much from them, but if Vilardi, Kempe, Iaffallo don't pitch in man it's going to be another one of those years. Yikes.
Iafallo doesn't score.
