GDT: 2021-22 season game 15 LA Kings vs Winnipeg Jets @4:00pm 11/13/21

OK admittedly its been years since I been on this board, so I'm hoping my credentials are still good enough to post even though I had to completely re-register my user name (as if someone else would have taken it, right!) First, what an excellent road trip. The boys are playing like nothing I've seen in the last few years not even at the end of the Covid ended season. Watching them playing smothering defense is kinda fun.
But there was a particular moment in the second period where I cringed hearing Faust comment on the road trip. If this were baseball, heading in to the bottom of the 7th or 8th and certainly the 9th inning and your pitcher has not given up a hit, NOBODY and I mean NOBODY, not teammate, not announcer, not even stupid fan of the visiting team in the stands or at home goes and mentions the word No-Hitter. Its just a known thing that the mere mention of the word jinxes the occurrence of it happening. So yes, as old as I am and following the team for the years I have, I know that this team hasn't ever swept an all Canadian road trip over three games.
So when I hear Faust pop that fact out (he said they've never swept a four game Canadian road trip) right near the end of the second period, you just had to know it was bound to happen that the Kings wouldn't pull out a win and wouldn't record that eighth point in four games on this trip. Bob Miller would not have made that mistake that's for sure. I would wager that even the guy on the radio wouldn't do it, and didn't do it either. The next time I bump into Fox I'll chide him a bit to let the FNG announcer know not to do so again.
How many times does it have to be repeated that you never, never, taunt the Hockey Gods.
Other than that, how's everyone been? I saw quite a few names I recall: Telos, Johnjm, Bandit, eleventy.
Now if I can only get the Promotions Department to not let Mercury Insurance offer a free pair of tickets to a playoff game befeer the team actually qualifies for them, that could really help!

Good to see you're around! I disappeared for quite a while too but have recently been a little more active posting.

True story: this guy did me a solid and showed up to court in DTLA to represent me for the high crime of drinking a beer in a parking lot before a Kings game. The city attorney didn't end up pressing charges so I got lucky on that front. That was the only time in my life that I ever got in trouble with the law thankfully.

I owe you a few more beers!

Blast from the past! Good to see you, brother.

Jets fan...

Wouldn't shock me if you guys made the playoffs this year

Playing a real solid strong 4 line cohesive game. You guys seem to lack the high end talent at the moment but.. your coach has your team playing hard and the right way.
Yea they are definitely capable. They have just been such a streaky team the last couple years that you dont want to have high expectations. Winning streaks where they look really solid followed by skids where they look like theyd rather not be playing.
Hopefully the veteran additions they made this offseason add some stability.
If they can clean up the power play I think they will make the playoffs.
They are also built in a way that you would want to avoid them in the first round as a higher seed. A scrappy team that has no expectations to go all the way and grinds will either beat you or give you a run for your money and wear you down for next round.

Cal played fine. None of those goals were bad goals against.

It's just so damn frustrating that a PP gave up a goal that costs us 2 points.

Watching live, Cal fought the puck a lot and was out of position several times. The Kings did a good job giving up few scoring chances. Tip or not, Peterson wasn't in good position on the tying shorty goal either. He didn't instill $5 million in confidence in me, that's for sure.

Team overall was good, PP was awful though. The mask policy was crazily enforced, they warned us to only put it down between sips and the worker scolded my buddy and the people sitting beside me multiple times even when they only had it down for 30 ish seconds between sips of their drink/eating. Was pretty distracting actually, the woman talked to them during the play.

Least we got a point though, our streak was bound to end sometime.

I had our section lady come and give me heck too. Skipped over several Jets fans to walk 10 rows up to my spot to scold me though.

When is Arvidsson supposed to be back? It's been two weeks already. I'm not familiar with all the rules of the protocol.

I wonder who gets bumped out of the lineup when he returns. I assume it will be Kaliyev.

Kaliyev didn't impress me much this game. You can tell he's pretty creative but his speed is lacking and it's pretty obvious the scouting reports that his skating would hold him back from his draft year haven't changed. He had a few flashes, but he needs to be in the right place at the right time to be effective and he wasn't that Saturday night.

I seen a few commenters say Iafallo and Kupari weren't very effective and my eye test begs to differ. There was even a Jets fan saying they should be trading for 'that Kupari kid' by the third period. He was actively involved and his combo of size and mobility was quite noticeable. I came away from this game with a new level of appreciation for him. I wasn't a fan of his when we picked him but I can see what our scouts did in him. Whether he'll finish enough is another question all together but time will tell. Iafallo was also a real buzzsaw out there, easily showed the most hustle of any Kings forward, Lemieux included.

I also watched Lizotte, our whipping boy on these boards. He's a lot of effort, not a lot of brains out there but that 2-on-1 goal, he shot that off Hellebuyck's pads on purpose hoping for a rebound to Lemieux. It was a really smart play by him and I wanted to see him get credit for it. He's borderline pro material but he had a nice play there.

Overall, we were the better team. If this is what this team is capable of, no reason we can't be in the playoff picture and we should be better once Doughty, Arvidsson, etc. get back. We got pretty awesome depth.

I have to disagree completely on a "brainless" Lizotte. The only problem with him is size.

Outside of that one play, he made several odd choices out there. I paid extra attention to him just because it seems like he's the choice to demote the most and frankly, the routes he takes to pucks and how he treats it like a hand grenade makes me agree he'd be worthy of demotion when guys get back. My first cut would be Kaliyev

A little late to mention it, but oh man… Danault’s opening face off win was the most amazing face off effort and success I’ve ever seen. I know it sounds weird, but if you saw it you know what I mean!

I've actually taken special notice of him in the faceoff circle. His faceoff ability is underrated if he isn't known for it. Very solid/dominant.

For real - he treats each draw with the same urgency that all forwards show when a puck is sitting near the goal line and isn’t covered by the goalie. Phil is my effort-idol
