GDT: 2021-22 season game 12 LA Kings vs Toronto Maple Leafs @4:30pm 11/8/21

LOL. You mean the Brown that by his 8th season had a lead of over 300 hits (cumulative) on the next guy in hits needed Richards to show him how to hit someone? That's your story?
Yes. Obviously yes.

Somebody had to show this core how to win.

Dustin Brown followed suit. And he has never won a single playoff series without Mike Richards. 10-1 in series with the Serial Winner, 0-4 without him.

Great game. Was a little worried the Kings would fall victim to the ghosts of Bunting & Richie. Really impressed Todd has this team over 0.500. Tons of injuries & he's found a way.

Leafs are just bad. All their money tied up in 4 player & only 3 with dangerous shots. No depth or defensive game to fall back on.

Danault was a great signing. huge impact on this team. AA looking a little more comfortable. Hopefully he can get some chemistry with 19 & 24.

You always manage to top yourself with ridiculous posts.

Just finished the game, and Kopitar's line killed all momentum every shift they took in the 2nd and 3rd. There was a point in the second period where they got the puck to the top of the circles only for Brown to turn it over and spend the rest in their zone on four consecutive shifts. Old man just can't play the game at this pace anymore.

Lizotte has another fantastic game. Its funny, it wasn't all that long ago that a ridiculously undersized guy that gave his all and played near flawless energy hockey would actually be a fan favorite.

Nice to see Quick put in such a great 60 minutes. He may not have too many games like this left to give us, but they are such a pleasure to see.

Danault was terrific as usual, but Iafallo was most definitely the best player on the ice.

And just to add in to the nonsense debate, Danault doesn't deserve to be compared to Richards until he wins something, much less everything. Literally everything.

Roy had another strong game, pinned and sealed all night, broke up everything in front of the net. Edler though, absolutely awesome tonight.

The kids, forwards and blueliners, apart from some strong first period play from Kupari, were on the backfoot for most of the night. This game and most of this current streak have been won and dominated by the middle tier, the young and mid-prime vets, Iafallo, Danault, Athanasiou, Roy, Lizotte, Kempe, Moore and Lemieux have all been establishing a new set of standards here that doesn't rely on Kopitar. That's progress.

Yeah to Brown--this game was wayyyy too high paced for him. Bless him for his years to this franchise and he's still harder to move than a refrigerator when he can plant himself, but he just cannot skate or handle the puck at a first line level any more consistently. He has a good to great shift 1 in every 4 but it's clear what a drag he is on Kopitar at this point.

Lizotte has really stepped up his play again recently. He looked to be continuing the sloppiness from the end of last year at the start of this one but he's been instrumental to this streak and playing at his peak in every way but production--but he's out there doing all the dirty work and actually drawing penalties (that no one can finish on but that's not on him).

Damn, when you put it like that about Quick :( was so nice to see a vintage performance but it's sad that we're maybe counting down how many of those are left...

I'm so happy for Iafallo just playing at full confidence. There was a shift where he took a lap with the puck and was stickhandling with such decisiveness I thought for a second he might McDavid it and just go right down the middle hard

Definitely props to Roy, quietly stopped everything in its tracks, and Edler being especially pissy/borderline dirty was amazing to see. I'm still going back to giving props to Anderson here because he similarly stepped up the physical game. He wasn't as effective in it as Roy and Edler but he was hitting to bruise.

As an aside, it was a little up and down as you'd expect from the youth, but Kaliyev still looked pretty good in a high-pace game tonight--some strong board play, used his body well a few times, and even swung back to catch and break up some plays on the backcheck. Good progress for the sniper truck!

Overall, I think we maybe got to see (or maybe I'm over-hopeful about it) a glimpse of the vision of this team, because we were f***ing annoying on the forecheck when we got it going, guys got in there with speed and aggressiveness and just didn't let anyone get comfortable. Having a bunch of high-speed forecheckers and high-pace guys with the puck created some chances out of thin air and stopped theirs in their tracks a few times. The weakness is, of course, when you get hemmed in...

Soupie is much too hard on himself. Tons of praise for Quick.

Dude might make me cry.

Kind of a good point re: rallying around Quick, though, you could see the D really protecting him tonight--knowing he was dialed in and letting him see while f***ing up anyone who got too close. Kind of thing you can really build off.

Phillip Danault is UNDERPAID. Am I the first to post this?

Phillip Danault is UNDERPAID at 5.5 million and I am fine with 6 years. He will be 33 years old and playing fine, at that age.
Consider how many players are making 6+ million that CONSISTENTLY don't make such an impact all 200 feet, make all other players on the ice better...well, all players on his team and he makes all other players on the other team worse. There are many a 6+ million dollar player, that are often invisible, for that matter.

Philip Danault is the opposing team's worst nightmare. Danault goes out there to NOT score and ends up scoring because you're so nervous about him taking the puck that you just pass it to him to avoid the inevitable embarassment.

John Tavares could not be reached for comment. More on this story as it develops.

Alex Iafallo was 'miscast' as a #1 LW for 4 years....and then demoted to 2nd line. And then Danault comes aboard as second line center (some had an issue with that and said he's third line material) and is helping Alex become a 1st line LW...and a star. Nothing against Alex, he's earned it and worked for it.

I'm still happy Clague is part of this team. He looks so poised with the puck and confident, when he's on the PP. Great feet. He's been fine defensively.
I was hoping Phil would get a pass through to him on the 2 on 1 and see him score one. Am fine with Phil shooting on that play though.

When I see Clague on the powerplay and he's controlling the puck and QBing, I'm feeling like a goal could happen and then he goes off and Roy comes on...it's a totally different dynamic and not a good one!

They're finally developing chemistry.

Another random aside buuuut....do you think they'll finally reduce Doughty's minutes now?? Probably not huh

Imagine a Drew Doughty getting 20 min a game instead of 25. Let him know he can't conserve.

Kids are stepping up and doing well in his absence. Man if they continue to get better and better each game it would be nice to keep Doughty's minutes down. Dude has been a workhorse for how many years now. Then again it's freakin Drew Doughty he'd probably want all the minutes he can get.

That's how we'll know if it's the same old Kings or some new impostor!

Beating the tires off the Leafs after winning some improbables against the Blues is a harbinger of getting smoked by the Canadiens.
A loss isnt so bad. Its the worst when they go on those skids where the losses pile up and they look horrid and regress in the process.
They arent gonna win every game but hope they can find some consistency instead of either just the high highs and low lows.

I don't see a need to compare Danault to Richards, but if I had to be honest Richards was better. We are just spoiled to have had both of them on this hockey club and are really high on Danault. We all forget just how good Richards was when he joined this team and what it felt like to suddenly realize what a #2 center looked like and could do for the team. But I stand by that they do play a similar brand of hockey. Richards just had a bit more bite and skill. Remember, we didn't call Richards the #2 center, we called him the 1B center. Danault has never been considered that.

Richard was a better overall player , skill wise for sure. It was that 2013 concussion in the playoff that changed everything going forward. He came back in game 5 [?] and willed that tying goal. I think I read somewhere he doesn't even remember that game, similar to what Kariya said after his hit .
Danault comparisions are fair for sure. Nice to have another guy who can win important draws and score too when needed.
