GDT: 2021-22 season game 12 LA Kings vs Toronto Maple Leafs @4:30pm 11/8/21

2012 playoff Richards was good but not great -- he was also on a stacked team -- that run was all Brown, Kopitar, Doughty and Quick. Montreal had no business being anywhere near the finals last year. Danault was by far more important to them than Richards was to the Kings.
So important the Canadians let him go.

C'mon y'all are icing my post-game boner with this talk. I'm just happy that it looks like we have more forwards than what we know what to do with them and our defensemen are growing up real quick. I'm confident that this pipeline is going to produce and there's enough core veteran air cover on board to support them as the top prospects slide in and the bridge players slide out. Thank goodness the Kings are showing that what I saw in person on opening night wasn't a mirage.

I just don't see any reason to play Vilardi at center right now. If we can sub him in on the wing, let's do it, but he should not be playing center. I honestly think we should send both Vilardi and Kaliyev down and give them top six minutes in Ontario to get their conditioning up to par.

When we're fully healthy:

Arvidsson - Kopitar - Brown
Iafallo - Danault - Kempe
Andersson - Kupari - Athanasiou
Lemieux - Lizotte - Moore

Bjornfot - Doughty
Anderson - Roy
Edler - Clague

Quick
Petersen

Demoting Vilardi at this stage of his career is a give-up move.
I'd rather see the Kings trade him to a team with some plans for him.

Richards greatest contribution was laying Burrows out in game 1 of the 2012 Canucks series. That hit changed the momentum of the series and the identity of the team as a whole for the next 3 years.

How soon they forget. Richards, the recent former captain of a Cuo Final team that had a donut in goal was showing Brown how it was done.

Lizotte is a fine, maybe even good 4th line center. People just don't like him because he doesn't have upside beyond that.

No matter how many scoring chances Athanasiou generates, people around here will always be eager to give his spot away to Andersson, Vilardi, or whoever the shiny new toy is like Tkachev.

Kopitar needs to have his ice time cut.

If the PP/PK continue to struggle, the coaching staff should just blow them and rebuild the units.

You might be the only guy on this board that wants to reward the special teams :sarcasm:

they were technically 20th overall last season WITH PRICE WHILE PLAYING CANADIAN TEAMS ONLY.

so... the issues in Montreal go deeper than C. Price
They were an asterisk level team that had a hot run in an unusual playoff format, largely due to Danault playing the role of Ultimate Nullifier and Price being dialed in with a damn fine team spirit.

Can't begrudge them that, though I think all that NBC tugging on Caufield's sack did more harm than good.

can't wait to see Danault in Montreal lol

wtv happens the rest of the season, i so want LA to destroy MTL tomorrow (i hold eternal grudges since '93)

Man it would be just awesome if we can get a win for Danault. He helped us beat the Leafs would be nice if the team can pull out a win against the pathetic Canadians.

Speaking of the Rookie of the Year, 2 games in the minors 1 assist and a minus 4. Curse of the Hobey!!!

LOL. You mean the Brown that by his 8th season had a lead of over 300 hits (cumulative) on the next guy in hits needed Richards to show him how to hit someone? That's your story?

Indeed. Jake Allen's .900 save % is a whole .001 worse than Carey was last year.

Allen has a small sample size so far and it’s not good, I agree. However Price was able to mask the Canadians problems with his play during the playoffs last year. They had no business playing in the Cup finals, much less the playoffs. When your goalie gets hot and is doing very well it takes a lot of pressure off the team.

Good game for the most part.

Definitely meh on the Kopitar line. Mostly the wingers he's stuck with.
Just finished the game, and Kopitar's line killed all momentum every shift they took in the 2nd and 3rd. There was a point in the second period where they got the puck to the top of the circles only for Brown to turn it over and spend the rest in their zone on four consecutive shifts. Old man just can't play the game at this pace anymore.

Lizotte has another fantastic game. Its funny, it wasn't all that long ago that a ridiculously undersized guy that gave his all and played near flawless energy hockey would actually be a fan favorite.

Nice to see Quick put in such a great 60 minutes. He may not have too many games like this left to give us, but they are such a pleasure to see.

Danault was terrific as usual, but Iafallo was most definitely the best player on the ice.

And just to add in to the nonsense debate, Danault doesn't deserve to be compared to Richards until he wins something, much less everything. Literally everything.

Roy had another strong game, pinned and sealed all night, broke up everything in front of the net. Edler though, absolutely awesome tonight.

The kids, forwards and blueliners, apart from some strong first period play from Kupari, were on the backfoot for most of the night. This game and most of this current streak have been won and dominated by the middle tier, the young and mid-prime vets, Iafallo, Danault, Athanasiou, Roy, Lizotte, Kempe, Moore and Lemieux have all been establishing a new set of standards here that doesn't rely on Kopitar. That's progress.
