I understand why people get frustrated with him; he'll have some open space then pass the the puck right into a dman's skates.
But he also buzzes around and flashes his skill. There's a reason why you always notice him. He's part of one of the best possession lines in hockey right now.
People just need to accept he's a good middle 6 forward, but obviously imperfect. I think he'll round out his game.
1) Todd rolled through the lines much of the game, and because of it the Kings were the better fresher team down the stretch.
2) Kings won despite the top line being ineffective. Secondary scoring won the game.
Neither of these two things could happen in previous seasons. IMO, this game represented a clear difference between this year's team, and what we've had in previous seasons.
Peeps freaking out from results oriented thinking. Kings are one of the top.posession teams in the league while missing their top two defensemen. We're rolling lines all 4 deep, and overall winning the possession game. The two goals scored were a PP goal and funky bounce at the end.
From a stats point of view and eye test point of view, the team is FINE.
I get what you're saying but I feel like we have been waiting for him to step up for awhile now. He's been in the league for 6 years and his inconsistency is frustrating because you can tell when he's having a bad game. Also, we don't have other young guys really ready to take the reins so therefore he'll stay because like you said he shows flashes of skill.I understand why people get frustrated with him; he'll have some open space then pass the the puck right into a dman's skates.

The frustration comes from seeing him on the 1st PP unit and gives pucks away half the time.I understand why people get frustrated with him; he'll have some open space then pass the the puck right into a dman's skates.

From an advanced stats point of view they looked fine, but they absolutely did not look fine from an eye test point of view up until the past few games. The Kings have been a prime example of dominating the possession game, but not turning that into success. From the late Sutter years where they absolutely dominated to even as recent as 2020 where they were 4th in CF% and 9th in xGF%, but were 27th in actual GF%. The reality is that hockey is results oriented. I don't think anyone was happy with 2020, despite them looking fantastic through the lens of possesssion analytics.
Complimentary? This will be Iafallo's break out year for sure.
20+ goals, 50+ points is all but assured assuming he stays healthy. Maybe even 60 points.
I was wrong about him. He's developed into essentially the perfect complimentary winger.
When a guy signs his big guaranteed NHL contract, but doubles down on his work ethic and keeps improving, it says a lot about his character and drive.
Expect by current heat maps and expected g for theyve also been tops in the league. They've been getting chances, this isn't Sutter perimeter hockey
He's never going to be your team's star player. But where ever you put him he seems to make that line better.Complimentary?
The guy is a one man line-driving machine, an absolute beaut.

He's developed some nice offensive touch too.
Iafallo makes any line better and produces away from Kopitar. Some folks on here wanted to ship him off for a pick just a few years ago. Good times.

I know this is becoming quite the "you kids get off my lawn" approach, but there isn't a single advanced stat that is worth acknowledging. They are completely and thoroughly lacking in context and in a game with so many variables they just don't tell you anything you shouldn't already know from watching the games. In 2016-17, the year that Sutter was fired, the Kings led the league in xGF%.

Iafallo has been inside the top 30 of LW scoring in each of the last two seasons while being a noted puck hound and catalyst in Kopitar's offensive resurgence. Players of his caliber usually get $5-$6 mil per heading into UFA status, its an absolute steal that he signed for just $4 million. From what I understand his camp wanted $5 million and Blake threatened to trade him if he didn't take the $4 million. I hope they slide him something under the table!
