Roy is a great bottom pairing guy right now who can move up, being our current 2nd best defensive guy really doesn't change that as this team is just turning the corner on the back end. Think of the Kings defense when they were contending - where would he fit into that group?

It's all about consistency with him. If he gets back to where he was and plays more physically like he has the last week or so, I think he evolves into a legit 2nd pairing guy.

bottom pairing? roy is easily the best kings defenseman not name doughty.

I agree with both.

Hopefully as Toby gets better and others step in, he is pushed down the depth chart

Thank for you the insight! Completely get not having a need for Girard especially on a smaller d-core.

With that being said expect be to circle back to Roy with different offers haha.
You're welcome back any time. Glad Roy is getting attention. With Edler, Walker out the Kings are a little short on D & need guys that can defend. Moving a guy like Roy out right now would really hurt the D due to lack of depth.

Kings are good on offensive D for now. Doughty, Durzi are fine. Clarke will be here soon-ish. Kings aren't cup contenders right now so they can afford to wait a bit. There are more puck movers coming after that.

With the number of RD coming, someone is moving to the left side or Roy could be moved in a reshuffling of the D. That seems like a future decision past this season & moving someone to the left seems easier.

Chychrun I'm down on. High price, injury concerns & maybe a fluke year.

Provorov: Philly fans complain about him on the PP. 6.7M is a big cap hit. Healthier than Chychrun & more points most seasons. Philly may be asking #1D value & not sure that's what he is.

Wonder how much more Dahlin would be if they're looking at a crazy price for Chychrun. Probably gets a Byfield response & that doesn't work.

It would be nice to add a D this year, But taking a shot at a UFA in the offseason would be a lot cheaper asset wise. How hard can it be to get an upgrade on Maatta?

I think the only untouchables are Byfield and Clarke. If the yotes want a young roster player, they'll probably look at one of Kaliyev or kupari. Turcotte can absolutely be moved for the right piece. I am not advocating on trading any one of them, but we can't expect to get a good young player without losing a promising player(s).

I just hope we don't get caught up by adding rentals for high picks\prospects at the TDL. That is not what we should do at all. Any move we make needs to be for the future as well.

If we are serious about contending in the future we need to build a team that can compete with Vegas. I don't see them going away anytime soon.

Kings fans “we need more scoring from defenseman”. All our defense is the same!

Offered offensive defensemen, oh he also needs to be 6’3 and still on his ELC, oh and only willing to give up spare parts!

Oh and he would be tied for 5th in scoring on the Kings, lead all defensemen, and he is only 23!! (Would be behind DD if he hadn’t missed time)

I like Roy, but you have to give to get. And the Avs aren’t trading for futures right now.

He has been a "legit 2nd pairing guy" since the second he took NHL ice. Imperious defense, world class along the walls, and an excellent penalty killer. EVERYBODY who plays with him sees an uptick in their individual and team games.

Christ, this board is getting dumber by the day.

Completely agree, and that is what makes the hiring of Bergevin a real concern because the team he ran was ridiculously impulsive and short-sighted. I hope he remains out of earshot prior to this deadline.

Apologies for continuously circling back to this, but I can’t help but feel Girard for Roy+ would be a great trade for both teams.

You guys are absolutely stocked full with RHD, however in my opinion your left side leaves something to be desired. I don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility for you guys to be able to land Chychrun and Girard while still having solid RHD depth.

So my question is, what would you be willing to add to Roy to land Girard? Doesn’t have to be only roster players either, higher end futures/prospects would also move the needle imo.

Girard stood out like a sore thumb, and not in a good way, during the Playofs last season. He was simply outmatched by larger forwards. He is not someone I would want to acquire. I'll take an offensively limited Roy over Girard.

Completely different market, different mindset.....

Anyone care to chime in when Montreal has bought into a rebuild in the past....60-70 years? Not arguing if it was right or wrong etc, but they have NEVER bought into a rebuild....ever. To be shocked that a GM there for 10 years never rebuilt, is like being shocked water is wet.

I agree if you're talking about Chychrun. I don't think anyone should be considered 'untouchable'. A good example of this is the return of Eric Lindros trade.

There's a good case to be made that Matt Roy is the best Kings defenseman. Period. The guy is a rock back there. Quietly excellent. Lowest GA/60 and highest GF/60 at even strength amongst defensemen on the team. Best penalty killing defenseman on the team. Second in the league in GF% Rel over the past three seasons amongst defensemen.

Night in, night out, he outplays his competition. He just doesn't get the accolades because he doesn't score a bunch of points on the power play.

When Doughty was out and he was the #1 dman he struggled some nights getting beat on coverages and he was less engaged physically with all the minutes. But hes really solid. If the Kings are deep enough to have him as a shutdown third pairing guy they are in excellent shape.

We're top 10 in the league for goals against and some of you are acting like our defense is made up of a bunch of bums. I know we're are own biggest critics but let's give our team credit where credit is due.

Roy, Bjornfot, Durzi have all been outstanding. Honestly besides the occasional hiccup between Doughty and Anderson I haven't seen many mistakes that I can even remember. Even our whipping boy Maata has been good.

The defense is so much improved from the last couple seasons and a big part of it is that they are able to break out of the zone cleanly. They were just getting hemmed in so much the last couple seasons because of bad passes and wilting under physical pressure. Maybe some of the blame should have been on the wingers for being soft on the half wall also. Both have been a lot better this season.
Bjornfot, Roy, and Anderson arent offensive dynamos but they move the puck efficiently.

Roy is a perfect bottom pairing D for LA. LA doesn't really have a replacement in the pipeline like him. Signed to a good contract as well.
Not sure LA makes a good trading partner at the moment, since they're making an effort to make the playoffs this season. LA is looking to add a player like Provorov. Whether or not they do is a different topic.
Matt Roy is certified top-4 gold. Guy is absolute nails in all situations.

Girard would be an awesome partner for Roy, but no way I’m trading one for the other.

Ok, I gotta ask.....is the same same guy from years and years ago, that was scouting up in Ontario etc, for the life of me I can't remember his name, but he had some...insider moments etc.
