Turcotte's first 8 AHL games he had 0 goals 1 assist and a -3.
Would you be shocked if I told you he had a similarly slow start to his College career?

His style of play doesn’t led itself to being an instant producer when he jumps up a level of competition, although it does make him a “safe” player while making those adjustments.

Turcotte is going to be just fine. Give it time.

I have liked what he has brought to the Kings. I like the rookie line last night.

It is very debatable, but if you don't produce in the AHL, I believe you won't produce in the NHL. We can tell who these prospects are and which ones will need a shorter time to get there.

DD8's contract is going to be a horrendous anchor sooner than later. It's obvious his injury this season isn't being helped by 24+ minutes a night. A huge amount of heavy miles are in that 32 year old, and the miles keep getting added at an obnoxious rate. TM has got to see pulling the reins in and lowering his minutes to 20 max, otherwise he'll be a shell of what he showed last night.

I mentioned this in another thread, but over the past 3 seasons Doughty leads the entire NHL in TOI by a substantial amount. It is utterly ridiculous that we are playing him so many minutes when the team is not actively contending.

Yes to JAD. I was not big on the Tkachev signing. I would rather see Vilardi get another shot.

Vilardi still needs to clean up the defensive side of the game. He was a -5 with the Kings in only 7 games.

I'd much rather see Fagemo and Frk right now. They are +12 and +11 in Ontario and we need to reward that kind of defensive responsibility.

Don't look now but Kopitar leads the team at -6. On the flip side, Danault is +13, Roy is +12 and Anderson is +11.

My biggest issue right now is that Todd really needs to start rewarding players more for results. I don't care about salaries, pecking order, etc.. It's absolutely ridiculous that this team is so bad on the PP and we would have several more wins if it was middle of the road.

the second PP unit has looked alot better the last few weeks.
I would go:
Durzi at the top
Doughty and Kopitar on the side boards.
Brown in front
Kempe as the guy they either use down below the goal or high slot.

Ideally would have Danault in Brown's spot but still need to save something for the second unit which would be him, Arvidsson, Kaliyev, Iafallo, and Roy.

I know Doughty hasn't been great the past two games, but here's some great stuff on his resurgence this season and what it's meant for the Kings. I'm just hoping that the Kings being in contention for a playoff spot is enough to keep him motivated now that the NHL isn't going to the Olympics. It'd be nice to get a World Cup of Hockey announced soon for players to look forward to...

16 Stats: Doughty's dominance, Panthers purring, and actual All-Stars
And yet, here we are this season where Doughty not only looks much more like his old self, he’s actually putting up some of the best numbers of his career, period. Doughty’s career-high in points is 60 back in 2017-18. This year he has 20 in 21 games. At five-on-five, his 56 percent expected goals rate and 58 percent actual goals rate would both be career highs. Relative to teammates the Kings are 0.39 expected goals per 60 better with Doughty on the ice and 0.59 actual goals better. Again, both career highs. All in all, Doughty has been worth 0.9 wins according to GSVA, an 82-game pace of 3.5 wins. His career-high is 3.3 wins back in 2009-10. That’s undoubtedly Team Canada calibre and since December 9 (after settling in from a return from injury), Doughty has been even better, posting a 64 percent expected goals rate since.

His offense is good but its his defense thats weaker this year

We don’t have a “second unit”. We have “the unit that gets shit done” with Durzi, and “the clown unit” with Kopitar and Doughty that gets 80% of the pp time because Todd is a f***whack.

I hate to say it again, but not putting Kaliyev on the first powerplay is the single biggest flop for this coach and staff this year. The kid is paying his dues busting his ass on a grinding line, reward him FFS.

haha, i agree. I think if he combined the two with Durzi running point things would be better.

May I suggest Lemieux in Brown's spot. He and Durzi seem to pair off and practice tipping point shots during warm ups.

How when there is no else ready for those minutes. Blake needs to bring a guy who can shoulder some of the load.

Like they did with bringing in Danault to help shoulder Kopitar's minutes.....

Both have shown to be way more effective with less minutes. Playing well in DD8's absence shouldn't not be forgotten. The players stepped up when given the task.

I think it's clear as day right now who makes the biggest impact(s) on this team this year. When you see Danault missing, look what happens. When you see Kempe missing, look what happens. The best management teams in the league can look beyond the statistics and see who are game changers in this league. Did you see Kaliyev last night? He was banging his stick on the ground trying to get that puck and was the single most effective guy on that powerplay.

McClellan is infamous for his inability to make mid-game, mid-series adjustments. Last night's loss was the result of refusing to read his team and sticking with a preconceived notion that the kids weren't going to be able to handle the best team in the league.

That may have been a good theory, but it was the ridiculous over-playing of what really were the worst players on the ice instead of reading the flow of the game in the third period. His post game presser was poor, citing the first three goals as his main issue then saying the vets - who he over-played - didn't have a good night.

I hope Byfield is called up for the roadtrip.
What I would love to see, but won't happen:

Brown, Maatta removed. Brown was horrible last night and should never be on line 1 again, ever. Byfield called up. Fagemo to Ontario, not for his play, but for Byfield and Kempe to take Brown's and Fagemo's spots. I am ok with Kupari and think he's been better the last few games and 9 points on line 3 is not terrible and he's getting more shots off...some ticketed for top corners. He made a good play to get the puck to Durzi twice on the Kaliyev goal. Maybe Fagemo ends up being the better player...or even Chromiak, etc. Move Byfield to 3C and drop Kupari to RW Lizotte line. Move Arthur up, he's looking great.
I am missing Edler and would solve the Maatta problem. I think Blake needs to find an upgrade
now. Chychrun and Chiarot may be too expensive. Would hope for the next level LHD to be acquired. Moverare can't be worse than Maatta for now...but would call up Wolanin. He's much better than Maatta.

the following won't happen, due to Brown. This lineup would be the best they could roll. Line 3 could do some potential damage. Byfield takes C on 2nd PP. I would put Durzi on PP 1, but that won't happen.

Iafallo Kopitar Kempe
Moore Danault Arvidsson
Turcotte Byfield Kaliyev
Lemieux Lizotte Kupari

Anderson Doughty
Bjornfot Roy
Wolanin Durzi

All I know is since the prevalence of 4 forwards and 1 defenseman on the powerplay came about, the Kings have leaked more short-handed goals against than I can remember. Honestly, why not have Drew and Durzi out there at the same time? Could the powerplay be any worse because of it?

TM is excited to add AA and Grunstrum back into the lineup according to his post game quotes. Though I highly suspect Grundy to be bench immediately and Tynan added (I kid)(but I wouldn't be shocked). This would probably mean Turc and Fagemo have tickets to Ontario. We must ready ourselves for TM's big playoff push.
