Protas added another PPG trickler as Windsor completed the comeback and defeated the Knights 4-3. He was named first star of the game. Really careless penalties by Allen (3x), Bonk (2x) and Dickinson (2x).

Ilya's short area game was strong. I guess it probably should be for a dude that lanky but against a team like London it was a great test. He started slow. Play selection was sloppy early. Once Windsor got going I thought he was the best player on the ice.

Miro will be fine. I think it will be hard for him to crack Caps lineup next year unless they deploy him as 4RW and don’t resign Raddysh (which I would prefer). Like Raddysh, but I’d rather get Miro in the NHL. And he is one of the only high end prospects who can handle that job until he can move up the lineup (ala Tom Wilson).

Yes agreed. He’s fine doing that kinda work (Miro as a 4th liner).

I kinda still hope they use Mangiapane’s big salary to land a big fish for the top 9. And then play a Miro on the 4th as the fill in.

I do feel Miro needs to have a quality passer as a center. Kinda wonder what a Protas looks like centering Miro and Leonard. Or McM.

Impressive weekend from Cristall aswell. Started slow with only 1 assist on friday then 1+5 against the best team in the WHL then 2+2 on sunday. Total 3+8 and back in the lead for scoring in the WHL and the entire CHL.

Protas with another solid game and is within reach of being 2nd in scoring in the OHL. Patrick Thomas also with a strong weekend 2 goals and 3 assists in two games brings him up to 5th in the OHL.

Leonard have also really started scoring after the WJC. Climbing the list in the NCAA and answering those who where a little worried about him producing to little. 22 goals and 8 assists is second in points on the team behind Perreault who are 9-23-32. With his goals Leonard have definitely had more impact.

All this is great and reinforces why I hope we only go as far as a rental who we walk on after the season if we don't just go with what we have.

If we add term it potentially sends the message to the guys close to the next spots available that there is a new block, and can legitimately be demoralizing. Conversely, not adding anyone for next year will motivate all of them to push forward as hard as they can because even it there isn't a spot right away the team is inclined to giving them the maximum opportunity later.

We have had a bunch of young guys deliver earlier and with higher ceilings than many expected. Same could very well happen with Leonard, Miroshnichenko, Cristall, LittlePro, Allen and Parascak in roughly that chronological order.

Then maybe we go for a big fish like Kiprizov or another elete D in a couple of years depending on how things play out.

Another thing to consider is with the first big jump in Cap space next year a bunch of teams may spend it as fast as possible which could mean less competition for a elete FA in the following years as more teams have less flexibility. I think this is exactly why they wanted CapFriendly and hopefully use it heavily in assessing competition for FA talent with even further advances in modeling/predictive analysis (as they kept the CapFriendly staff).
