USC President Carol Folt isn't going to touch Meyer with a 10-foot pole. She is very scandal averse, and doesn't need Meyer's BS on her campus.

Even worse than what he did last weekend (it did seem consensual), was him protecting a member of his staff at Ohio State that he knew was abusing his spouse.

Texts show Meyer knew of WR coach's abuse in 2015
Or they’ll hire him and realize this later and boom typical SC drama.

I don't think so, because Folt was hired as USC Chancellor to clean up several messes, and has done so successfully. Folt is now 70, or approaching 70 years of age. She isn't going to let some half-wit football coach like Meyer screw up her legacy of running a clean university.

If they get this coaching hire wrong, her legacy might be the final nail in the SC coffin. Not sure how much longer SC can go on like this until they are permanently stuck like Nebraska or Miami or Texas. Once great program of has beens.

It's already happened. USC is not all that. They had some success with Helton, but mostly due to the talent he inherited.

Cheaty Petey was their last coach who kept them consistently in the national championship conversation. Why? Well, because he was Cheaty Petey. The NCAA vacated all 12 wins in 2005 and 2 wins in 2004.

Prior to Carroll it was Paul Hackett, John Robinson's 2nd tour of duty, Larry Smith and Ted Tollner. Smith and Robinson, in his 2nd tour, had some modicum of success in the beginning of their tenures, but couldn't sustain it and each finished with several mediocre seasons before losing the job.

I wouldn't say USC is Nebraska yet, but they are definitely in the same zip code as Texas.

Brown at this point in his career is a 4th line player that sees 2PP time. He hasn't back checked in years and he isn't about to learn a new trick. Love the guy and have mad respect for all he's brought us, but the end is near. Eyeballs tell us he's no longer a top player on this team, but he definitely still holds value on the roster in a lesser role.

I don't know he still has good hands. Hard to demote the guy who lead the team in scoring last year the 4th Line IMO

Yeah, this. I get the 'demote Brown' to the 4th line/don't resign him' love around here, but the guy did lead us in goals last year. I think that's partly due to playing with the only above average centre on the team, but I don't buy into the belief he's only playing with Kopi because of poor coaching or the other excuses being made. If someone is a better fit he'll be bumped. Blake, TM, etc all have jobs to keep too and they aren't going to jeopardize wins, and by extension their jobs, just so Brown can have a few more games on the top line. As Kaliyev, Byfield, Turcotte, Fagemo, etc all get better, they'll move into and up in the line up, just the same as Brown moved up in his day. Let's not forget we've all been really pumped about some Kings prospect or two over the years that we felt should be given their chance that eventually amounted to absolutely nothing for a NHL career anywhere. Until the kids make the line up and start proving themselves, Brown will stay there because he's the best option, as sad as that might be. Hopefully it changes this season, but it only will if a kid takes the bull by the horns and earns it.

If Brown doesn't back check, or even really check anymore period, do you want him on the 4th line, which is expected to at least not to kill your momentum?

They're not sitting him, they're not moving him, so his best place is next to Kopitar, the only C with which he might do something.

Then you spend his $6m in cap space better next year.

Kaliyev scores like every game hes played. And does it playing with borderline nhl talent as linemates. What more does he have to do to prove it?
Brown is on the top line cause I imagine Kopitar requests it. If they suck again this year I think we can all agree they shouldnt be leading this team and calling the shots anymore. There are very talented hungrier players in the system.

I agree, but I also think it might be time to stop giving him the benefit of the doubt this year. If he's not producing, it's not time to "get him going", it's time to give someone else a chance.

Yup, I get it and agree. Brown led the team with 9 ppg. His 8 even strength goals were 6th best on the team, and that's coming from the 1st line. I'm not saying he sucks, or he's a 8 minute a night guy. It's just time to move him off of #11's hip is all I'm saying. He'll still get his PP opportunities. Moving him off the top line allows him not to face the other team's top line and all the difficult responsibilities that come with that. But, I'm wrong a lot (just ask my wife and kids).

See, this is the problem. He's played one NHL game, and yes he scored in it, but it's one game. He hasn't even made the Kings yet, probably because he's 19 years old. Maybe he makes them this year, we'll see, but when you ask what more he has to prove, I'd say make the actual roster would be step one. He's scoring in the pre-season and the AHL, that's wonderful but also not a big deal. That'll get you on the team, not the top line. Make the team, score a few goals and you'll move up.

This whole discussion is moot until someone knocks DB off the line.

He's still a netfront PP presence and a heavy game. He led the team with 17 goals last year--nearly a 30g pace.

He's earned the right to play himself OUT of that role.

i mean the phrase could've been "out for x months", so i take "week to week" as a very good sign all things considered

At this point, I just want the Kings to rehab Byfield, get him 100%, and return him to junior.

Let him dominate for a season, be fully healthy, his contract will slide, and we just start over next season when he's 20 and hopefully grown into himself a bit.

He was starting to look real good in the AHL the last half of last year almost playing at a point a game. He looked great as pre season went on until his injury. Why send him back to jr. keep him up where he gets the best coaching, medical staff and trainers
