Most teams don't have 1 guy in the AHL on a 1 way contract, let alone 2+. It's not a reasonable way to get rid of people. Most people involved want the AHL to be developmental, not somewhere you stash veterans.

Better to assume 1 way deals are in the NHL than not. Until shown otherwise. No matter how much money a team makes or has. It's the primary reason for 1 and 2 way deals. It's a good indicator of who the team has penciled in.

It happens often enough. We had Frk in the minors on a one-way last year too. If a guy plays himself out of the NHL he'll be down, ask Andrew Ladd. Ask Thomas Hickey. Ask Phoenix Copley. It's not that rare. Regardless of if the guy is in the pros or the farm, the team has to pay him the same dollars so they aren't going to let a one-way get in the way of bettering the team and blocking someone else, especially since that someone else is usually a kid on an ELC making just over league minimum.

So now that we are getting close…

Iafallo - Kopitar - Arvidsson
Kempe - Danault - Brown
Athanasiou - Vilardi - Moore
Andersson - JAD - Lemieux
Wagner, Lizotte, Grundstrom

Anderson - Doughty
Edler - Roy
Bjornfot - Walker
Maatta, Clague

I agree with Hoven that Kings will likely put Maata on waivers rather than Clague.

The wild cards are Kupari, Frk and the new Russian kid.

I think that is how the lineup will likely start the season, with some wingers moving around. However, I would like to see the following after the second half. Once Byfield/Turcotte/Kaliyev ease in, I would flip him with Danault.

Vilardi-Kopitar-Arvidsson
Turcotte-Danault-Kaliyev
Iafallo-Byfield-Brown
Grundstrom-JAD-Moore

Where's Eichel?

Waiving someone but not assigning them to the minors doesn't fix any of the problems that cause people to suggest it in the first place.

People are talking about waiving guys like Maatta and Wagner because they don't like them and think it's a simple way to get them off the roster.

Those two guys alone represent almost $4.5M in cap hit AND (more importantly I'd argue) actual salary.

It's not impossible that some of these players with one-way contracts could be waived and then assigned to Ontario even on an extremely short term basis...

I just think it's more likely that other options are explored first.
Those two guys would be making $4.5M wherever they play.
The Kings would only pay the additional NHL salaries for the guys taking their spots like Clague and/or Tkachev which would be about $1.5M for both.
I'm not the guy paying their salaries so I can say it's only $1.5M.
But if they're serious about making the playoffs this season, they better be ready and willing to send those guys down if others are performing better.

not a fan.

Not a fan of the black Chevy logo.

Look...if you just want the Gretzky-era jerseys then make the throwbacks you've already been wearing the official 3rd jersey. No need to just add some glitter or additional stripe.

I am not a fan of the chevy log or our current logo (dodge?). I like the 2000's crown logo and then the expansion crown. If our current jerseys are going to have no color I was hoping the thirds would. As far as the current jerseys they would look a lot slicker if they got rid of the piping going down the shoulders, and added a white stripe to the hem of the black. If we are going to keep this turd may as well polish it.

One of the easiest logo decisions in all of sports "the crown", and this organization can't get it right.

Call me crazy, but I'd imagine the org doesn't care much about what a minority group of die-hards want, they are looking for what's going to make the most money across the entire fanbase. I'm also going to go out on a limb and say that whatever logo-scheme they go with, they've done enough homework to know that it's the best option for generating revenue.

Blake can’t shit can Maata and Wagner without losing face. He won’t risk looking stupid for saddling the roster with AHL quality stop gap players inexplicably retained on multi year deals.

Well with the cluster-F that is Bally Sports channel, at least there's five King's games I get to watch this year.
The rumor on the street is that they are going direct to consumer, like Disney+ or ESPN+ and that is why they didn't renew their contracts with most providers.
Until that happens, they are on DirectTV Stream, formerly AT&T now

Who is he going to lose face with? Everyone knew Maata was a bandaid/expansion fodder. Hell so was Wagner, who despite decent stints has already outperformed his draft position.

Only one that he would look bad with, is ownership, as 3 mil is a lot to pay to have a guy not on your roster. Granted they are probably use to that by now…

The rumored price is like $25/month lololol. Enjoy your 12 subs at that price point.

Right, his boss, the only person that counts. Coming off Phaneuf, Kovalchuk, Pearson, Toffoli and Maata, Blake gets very little bang for the buck. If Iafallo and Danault don’t put up at least 40 points each, it’s a bad look.

Maatta will be a UFA next summer and Wagner earns below the league average salary, so I don't see any reason to get bent out of shape over those inconsequential contracts.

I think it looks worse if he doesn't ice the best NHL team given those players are getting paid no matter where they are playing. If the 'problem' is that the prospects are better than the players, that's him executing the plan nearly to a T, given Maatta's deal is up after this year anyway. What normally happens with rebuilding teams? Do you think everyone exits seamlessly upon end of contracts?

I have no issue with the trade for Maatta. The kings needed him for the expansion draft. Same with Wagner.

Maatta's contract is over at the end of the season. Next season, Wagner can be mostly buried in the AHL - maybe completely buried if the amount goes up.
