Yeah. That's why I never blame an athlete for trying to get as much money as they can. I mean just look at Eichel. He could have neck issues for the rest of his life. Is it really worth it?Agreed. Not to mention that a lot of being a pro athlete is trading a lot of personal freedom into giving their all towards building and pushing their bodies to the extreme. I'd say most athletes end up with debilitating injuries and/or chronic pain at the end of their careers, but part of that trade-off is most are retired by the ages of 35-40 and can relax for the rest of their lives. To make that trade and end up with nothing at the end is just tragic.
The thing is, all these guys are young. And how many people are financially responsible in their 20's? And even if they're not profligate, they're naïve. Just look at JJ for example, its not like he was going on spending sprees, he just got taken advantage of because he didn't know anything.
A lot of it comes down to who you have around you. If your family isn't stable and not looking out for your best interests, then good luck.
