It is too early for that, but things are gonna have to change. Avs need to get him to a specialist (send him to Crosby's guy) and just let the process take however long it does. Byram will have to tone down his game so he isn't targeted as much. I hate to say it too... Bryam needs a bigger, physical partner to help him out in that department as well. Hopefully Helleson will pan out and develop more nasty to his game. Take the focus off Byram on the pairing.
They probably did.I would have hoped that the Avs would have set up Byram with a concussion specialist either last season considering the extent of his symptoms as reported in The Athletic or after the Horvat elbow this season. It's not only his playing career at stake, but more importantly his quality of life post-hockey.
My daughter has had 4 concussions in the last 5 years playing volleyball. She has a sensitivity to light, especially fluorescent light which makes going to school suck, and chronic headaches now. On 2 different meds for the headaches. She sees a concussion therapist, a chiropractor, an acupuncturist, a massage therapist, and still has issues. Never knows what days things will flare up and she'll be down and out for a day or two. Bo very well could be dealing with with these things too... possibably for the rest of his life.
Baffle 'em with bullshit, it's certainly a good method when the numbers don't back up the assertion. He's an average to above average starting goalie. Meaning he is in the 10-20 range league wide. The stats can get skewed on goalies really easily. You could easily make a statistical argument that Gibson is barely a starting level NHL goalie... but eye test is pretty clear he's a top 5 guy. This year he's been the best goalie in the league. That said, I'd expect Kuemper to have those GSAX numbers being in that range. 6th was too high, 23rd was too low... 13th is about right. Arizona was a bad team, but a team well structured defensively to overcome his issues (beyond health). He faced a good amount of shots from far out and didn't have many rush opportunities against. He gave up plenty of rebounds, but he's pretty good in close with his legs. Kuemper's weakness are plays off the rush and the 15-25' sweet spot where players can pinpoint the upper part of the net. The Avs' system will naturally give up some rush chances and Kuemper is struggling with those. They also rely on goalies to make that ~20' save fairly routinely. The big difference between Grubauer's play last year and Kuemper's this year is the rush... Grubi was excellent off the rush and Kuemper hasn't been. Both have their mid range struggles, just on different sides of the net.
So Chris Driedger is the best goalie in the NHL currently then correct?Over the past three years prior to this one Kuemper was tied with Vasilevskiy for fifth best save percentage in the entire NHL (minimum 30 games played).
NHL Stats
GSAX (minimum 10 games per season)
2018-2019 - 13th out of 70 qualifying goaltenders
2019-2020 - 6th out of 65 qualifying goaltenders
2020-2021 - 23rd out of 66 qualifying goaltenders
NHL Goalie Statistics
I have no clue what you consider average, but nothing about his most recent body of work aligns with the label.
Sounds like they both have concussions. How do you go from 2 days to a month? Doesn't make sense
Yeah, that just sucks. Kuemper also has a history of concussionSounds like they both have concussions.
Some of our worst injuries have taken place in the practice; Francouz, Rantanen, EJ I believe, and now Byram and Kuemper.Someone concussed the #1 goalie during the morning free skate. Aint that something.
Shut him down. Look for d help if you can find it on the low or just play Macdonald.I haven’t really worried about Byram’s concussions, but the fact that his symptoms are just popping up when he thinks he’s good to play is not good.
The Avs might have to consider what the Penguins did with Crosby at some point here.
How do you go from 2 days to a month? Doesn't make sense
Bednar did say Byram doesn't have a concussion, so he's either lying or it's true and Byram has something else
How do you go from 2 days to a month? Doesn't make sense
Sucks because these are their contending years and they keep getting injured, although Its arguable that Pittsburgh has had worse injury troubles over the past decade, has that team ever been fully healthy? This is a nightmare that keeps on running for years now.....
I've never seen a professionell sports team that injury-prone and riddled for years now......And, of course unlucky.
If it's indeed concussion-related, Byram's short career is allready in jeopardy....
Unbelievable....
