Some names I wouldn’t mind Blake looking at due to cap strapped teams and then being free agents or RFAs.

Schwartz

I don’t know about a Marner/Doughty swap. Though Marner is younger the Leafs would have to incentivize Blake to take on Marner, while that would fill a top 6 need, it would leave a gaping hole at #1 D.

Kings do have some young guys that may be top4 material but it’s too soon to tell. That would be quite a gamble from Blake. Essentially putting the Kings in the same spot as the Leafs. Very top heavy just like the leafs currently, could be a potent 3-4 lines if the kids pan out.
I wouldn't do Marner for Doughty. Blake should be able to do better than Marner if he trades Doughty.

Agreed...the Kings would more benefit from UFA Hyman or UFA Blake Coleman, albeit, both 20 goal ceiling types - but have tenacity and grit. Jaden Schwartz all an UFA. Schwartz has topped 50 pts 3 times. Not many Kings forwards have done that! None, under 30 yrs old, I think.
One of those 3 would be a great to have on line 2. BUT, also get a legit top 3 forward; the 30 goal types.
The guys you mention are the type you build a culture with that the young guys will follow.

It would never happen, but I wouldn't be so ready to slam the door shut there. A 358 points in 355 games 24-year-old winger singed until 2024-25 is pretty much exactly what this team needs. The one thing that comes to mind about acquiring Marner is that it would force Kopitar to become more of a shooter...

Of course, losing the only defenseman on the roster is another story... :P I am just saying that Marner would be quite the haul...

Has anyone heard anything about where Tyler Madden fits into Blake's plans? I wonder if the kings brass expects him to push for a spot next year, play a handful of game, or spend the year in the AHL.
I also wonder how he is viewed league wide. I think he is a legit prospect but is berried in LA's system, and wonder if he should be used as a trade chip

How is he buried in LA's system? This was his first pro year and he missed most of it with a collarbone injury. He seems very well regarded, LA was apparently after him in the draft where Van got him and they were able to get him later, and he seems like a guy who will be able to make plays from any forward position plus his dad's all around pedigree. Not at all a guy I'd be looking to move at this point.

It's way easier to find a winger than a Doughty.

Amen. And that being said, wingers are finishing pieces imo. Opening up one giant hole to fill another doesn't really help.

I guess i feel like he is buried because I don't hear much on him, like I do on Byfield, Turcotte, Kupari, Andersson and even Kaliyev.

It is logical to think about moving Doughty, considering we wont be competitive for several years. But this team is going to be a dumpster fire (more than it is now) without him. He may not be the young DD we are used to, but he is still an anchor on D. Without him, I see a bunch of blowouts, which is not a good environment to bring up the young players. In short, trading Doughty is not realistic and not best for the future of this team.

I feel Madden is a definite let him cook in the AHL for a bit to see if he can put on size before moving him to NHL.

Price is the first player ever to get past the first round with a 10 million cap hit or higher. For those you want to add a 3rd 10 million dollar player on the team.

That's because he wasn't drafted by us and was injured for nearly the entire year--but they still did a decent prospect piece on him.

Kid was a preseason monster then had the same early struggles as the other Reign but unfortunately got blown up so we didn't get to see him figure it out like the others. I expect him to absolutely demolish the AHL next year.

I love his creativity and enthusiasm.

I feel like you're using an arbitrary cut off to ignore Tampa's 2X 9.5 contracts, that recently made it past the 1st round. Also the large contacts will be offset by a large number of skilled ELC's in the near future.

Trading Kopi & Doughty. Don't see it. If Blake was going to move them, they'd already be traded. Trading them now would send the team into the dark ages. Would be great for the next 2 drafts, but we'd turn into the Oilers or Buffalo.

Besides, this team isn't that far off from the playoffs.

See the last two pages of this very thread where this is discussed. While there is an argument against multiple double-digit AAV contracts on a team, this "first team to win a round with one in the salary cap era" is really silly.

Knew it was in that ballpark. Interesting stat.

makes me a little choked that some teams have a competitive tax advantage. No way TB signs their guys for those contracts if they are dealing with our taxes.

There is some noise around Seth Jones to LA. I know we have all learned to take this stuff with a grain of salt. But if you could make Jones to LA happen and then flip Doughty for Marner it makes a lot of sense for us.

Bottom line is that the Kings have a lot of assets and cap space.

Unfortunately all we can do is speculate and it's fun to do. I could see a lot of different scenarios where the Kings can make multiple moves to put a very talented very young lineup out there.

I’d rather get Jones, keep Doughty, and add the pieces and go for it.

Maybe. Marner is 7 years younger with 2 less years left on his contract though.

For all that people complain about the Doughty and Kopitar contracts. It's really Doughtys contract that is scary for us long term.

It's not to hard to fast forward three more years when Byfield and some of our other core prospects are up for big raises and looking at Doughty at 34 years old with an 11mil contract with still three more years left and trying to figure out how we can possibly get rid of that.

I wonder who the next flavor of the month we are going to get :) It's all fun but sad. Every player that becomes available... we need, isn't that a sign this team is years away from competing?

They won before they got their big deals
Toews and Kane won the cup on there second contracts that took up 11.09% of the cap each when they signed them. Today their contracts take up 12.9% each.

11.09% is absolutely considered a big deal.

Kopitar's 2nd contract (6.8M) was 12% of the cap when he signed it BTW.
