I know that Colorado won a cup but it was the most stacked team in the modern era since the 2002 Red Wings. Tampa, LA and Chicago got much more out of their cores than Sakic who should have gone all in for 3-4 years. He had a chance to build a dinasty like Chicago but f***ed up badly. Trading a game breaking talent like Rantanen for Necas is f***ing stupid, This Colorado team will not go past the 2nd round with what's left of their elite core. They are 1 man forward team, 1 elite offensive minded D pair and nothing else. If Mac goes down they are screwed. I'm confident we could take them in playoff round if Demko can be back to at least 90% of what he used to be. There is a reason why they are only 5 pts ahead with 2 more games than us in a season were we sucked.

Jake or Brock is fine but not together, I'd love a pure playmaker like Marner or a similar highly skilled guy I think the key to unlocking EP is playing to hi strength which is his shot. In the meantime put him with the two forwards he's produced with or seemed to have chemistry with which would be Sherwood, Hogz, Debrusk and Karlsson.

A lineup with MP3, D-Petey and Willander anchoring a pair will be elite defensively. The talk of Mancini and proven pair of Hughes/Hronek is absolutely insane to think about! Mynio and Kud is a luxury we can sit and marinate for a while and that’s crazy.

We get to draft down the middle for a while and it feels good.

I'd love for the Canucks to draft Ravensbergen as long-term goalie.

TBF they didnt want to pay Kadris retirement contract, walked away at the right time from Burakovsky, and Landy their captain pulled a Weber on them. I dont understand the Rantanen move either though especially with the cap projections now

Sakic played it very safe for long term "compete" but when you have a special core like that you have to take risks and maximize the gains. Those players fit the team perfectly and Kadri played very well in the playoffs for Colorado despite his suspensions. He has 34 pts in 33 playoff games for them. His contract will suck at the end but he would have given them a solid 2nd line and excellent playoff production for another 3-4 years. He makes like 7 mil and that's nothing money in 2-3 years.

Necas looked good, have never focused on him before.

Some bad passes that were intercepted, but it didn't even matter, they were drowned out by the sheer volume of plays he made. In comparison, our 'top line' has nowhere near the puck skills, confidence, or creativity.

Yea and had to trade Byram away for a 2C. Theyve also been in Goalie limbo for many years. It was a good team but definitely was a perfect storm

He’s too slow to chase the dump ins, too weak to retrieve in board battles, and relies too much on having the puck with space to generate offence. Him and Tocchet are incompatible. Same logic applies to Boeser.

They need an East-West system to succeed and we’re running this team as if we’ve got Crosby/Tkachuk-esque high skilled grinders leading the way.

Several post-game show callers pointed out that Tocchet sounded like last year's Tocchet after the game tonight......definitely more update, positive and animated.

I guess all the dressing-room drama and the losses weighed on him. But after watching his team win a spirited, emotional win over a very good team like Av's, he has a lot to be positive about.

There's just a totally different vibe around the team right now.

People don't realize how much they can affect you. I've had a few and after my last one, it seemed like I was in a fog for months. And I don't need to make split second decisions with a puck on my stick and big angry men with sticks coming at me.

If he was out there consistently dancing the opposition (which players of his pay grade consistently do) and his linemates couldn't finish or had stone hands or kept turning it over then yes, you can point to his linemates.

But a player of his pay grade ought to carry a line regardless of wingers. You can't go from a 100 point expectation to a 55-60 point pace because for some reason you don't have chemistry with any of the 3-7M AAV wingers on the team. That's asinine. Not to mention looking the same sort of ass on a 40M PP that includes the best D-man in the world.

You're right that he was a bit choppy on a few plays and I wish he was better on that PP (he seemed to be a legit offensive threat in the first half of last season and that aspect of his game has disappeared for some reason) but his overall impact was substantial.

He played 25 mins, 2A, +2. You can live with a few small hiccups when a D-man has that sort of stat line.

At the end of the day, Petey just needs to perform. He's doing all the small things well and does create ice for his teammates - but he's deferring so much that he looks like a complimentary top 6 forward and not the top 5 C he's shown himself to be. All we can hope is he does the opposite of the second half of last year and pops off :/

Really liked what I saw from Karlsson - looks like he's really adapting to the NHL pace. Made some solid heads up plays that shows you glimpses of a player that can fill in on the top 6 when needed.

Glad Boeser got a goal - so many chances and the fumble on the 5 on 3 was baaaad. Crossing fingers his concussion symptoms continue to resolve and he gets his beginning of season shot back. Liked his board battles though.

Games like this are equally fun to watch but also frustrating as hell.

I swear if they got M. Petey or someone equivalent towards the earlier part of the year, 90% of this drama would've just gotten swept under the rug as they'd have the horses to play this way from the start of the year. Injuries have obviously played a huge role in things as well, as having this version of Demko & Hronek would've masked a lot of problems. Could've been a lot more fun/less frustrating year if management did it's job earlier in the year/summer.

Regardless, we move forward. Team looks good from a structural perspective, it just needs its gamebreaker up front to rediscover his old form. I'm not even sure that's possible anymore, but with the team's defensive form + Hughes gamebreaking ability, there's a shot they can really do something here if Petey wakes the f up (& Demko retains this form).

Guys like Forbort can benefit from a scratch as long as it’s communicated as rest. He’s old. Same with Myers. By the way, Forbort is now up to 9 straight games without a minus, although he was part of the long shift where Demko saved everyone’s butt. But still, it’s a streak, and considering the D problems this year at different points, why complain? He’s not Quinn, but neither are a bunch of them. There’s only one puck, and tonight it was Hronek’s. Over 7 minutes in PP time. The new MP3 played well also, but is he worth the money we are talking about? I don’t know. When Quinn is back, it’s his puck again. Petterson if signed long term will always be a second LHD behind Quinn, that’s only if the DPetey kid doesn’t push him to a near future third pairing. These talks about 7-8 year term deals at the price they are talking about is scary. He is 27. If he were 22 and playing like this, yeah. I sometimes think the GMs sign long deal, hope it gets them a Stanley in a year or so, when it doesn’t, they get fired, and leave an uncorrectable mess for the next G M. It’s more about themselves near term than it is long term to build a franchise. IDK. Maybe I’m crazy

Do you remember in the bad old days (3 games ago) when we had a defense that was hacking the puck off the glass, preventing our forwards from attacking the neutral zone with speed? MP3 and EP2 together allow us to play transition offense.

EP2 will be on an ELC and if he's supplanting MP3 in a few years, that's a great problem to have. QH coming back has absolutely nothing to do with any of that. He's the offensive catalyst for the whole team. The guy that basically adds 1 goal for to our total every single night. If MP3 can simply do what he's been doing, anchoring a high leverage pairing, at 6.5M x 6 and under he will be worth every penny.
