No offense but you are constantly overrating prospects and the likelihood and speed in which they will become NHL players. I still get a chuckle remembering your posts from 2019 which had Kupari as a top line player on the 19-20 team. The LAST thing the Kings should do is rush Byfield. They've already potentially ruined Vilardi by rushing him this past year. Byfield as 3c will do nothing to develop him offensively and will expose him defensively.
Ruined Vilarid? Is Max Comtois ruined? They were drafted the same year. Comtois put up 7 points in his 10 game call up in 18-19 like Vilarid did in 19-20. Comtois scored 11 points in 29 games the following year which works out to 31 points over 82 games. Vilarid just put up 23 points in 55 games which works out to 34 points over 82 games. This year Comtois was on pace for ~50 points over an 82 game season. It won't take much improvement for Vilarid to be a successful 2C. This improvement would be completely in line for a player of his age and experience. Byfield playing very well might prevent Vilarid from hitting 50 points since there are only so many minutes in a game. I think sending Byfield to the OHL would be more detrimental to his development than playing as a middle 6 NHL center since there is no challenge left for him.

A couple of things...

Comtois just keeps getting better...he was ready. Vilardi turned out not to be...at least for 20-21.

As for Byfield I'm reminded of the old adage...no player has even been ruined by spending an extra year in juniors/minors but plenty have been ruined by being rushed into the NHL. Seems like a risk to rush your prized prospect into the NHL at 19 (without him having earned it). I realize the tough situation of either OHL or NHL but IMO the Kings need a better plan than to just gift Byfield an NHL spot before he's earned it. If you disagree then we can just agree to disagree.

The Tkachyov signing is underwhelming for a team littered with guys that flash top6 potential but on most nights belong in the bottom 6.

I mean I'm not over the moon or anything but dont you think this is a little overly critical given the draft lottery hasn't even happened yet and teams are still playing?

And free agency is over a month away.

Some people just want to complain.

Hey, wanted to be first to add Tkachyov to a lineup....albeit, he may not make it...and will see another top 6 forward in there, via acquisition / signing.
Also think there will be a top 4 LHD acquired and Clague possibly dealt or lost to Seattle.

Kempe - Kopitar - Kupari
Iafallo – Vilardi – Tkachyov
Moore – Byfield – Brown
Andersson – JAD – Grundstrom
Lemieux

Bjornfot – Doughty
Anderson – Roy
Clague – Walker

This is false since Vilarid did better in his second season in the NHL than Comtois as I pointed out in my post. If Comtois kept improving and was ready, so was Vilardi.

I think the move shows they are not going to sign AA and Tkachyov takes that spot. AA was awol last 3 weeks of the year. So, I think they are hoping Tkachyov can be a middle 6 and help the PP. I also think the Kings are going to get a legit top 6 forward via trade. ASLO - How many times did you hear Todd say glowing things about Kaprizov this year? Like 3 or 4 times? "he's a great young player and it's great for the league to have him"....it shows how much TM values this level of skill and dynamic...and not that Tkachyov is Panarin or Kaprizov, If he's a level or 2 below them, he's still a low risk option that may be better than AA was.

It's a 1 yr deal. His dream is to play in the NHL...give the kid a shot. Maybe Todd asked the staff "who is the best Russian player that can be had?" who knows. Maybe Yannetti will chime in.
The fact that they apparently tried to get Shafigullin over and brought Chromiak over too, shows
they really want to bring skill in. Simontaival had a pretty good year, too.

Tkachukyov is gonna start the year in the minors if you go by history with these types of signings. The biggest implication is this likely means Matt Luff won’t be qualified.

This is a “free” asset, so I’m all for a kick at the can... but bleh.

Undersized middle-six scoring forward who doesn’t score that much? I feel like that quite possibly is the thing least needed in the organization.
What's the Russian word for "dumpster"?

Ok. Most people didn't think Vilardi passed the eye test for the majority of the games he played this past year but if you felt differently than that's ok. Comtois was the Ducks leading scorer (as modest a statement as that is) so there's that.

No comment on the folly of having your prized 19 year-old prospect being gifted a spot on the NHL roster as your Plan A?

Vilardi was well into his 21st year on this planet when this season started. 21 is not rushed. The only thing that will hurt Vilardi is his skating, and there's no developing speed at this point. He's been pretty healthy for the last calendar year now, so any potential ruining is countered by these being the potential first steps in becoming a 1st line player. Yes, he's more likely to be ruined than be a top line guy, but that's pretty much the case with every player.

He was the leading scorer for one the best teams in the league.

KHL is not a high scoring league. It's tough to produce over there.

He had the second most points per game of any player in the league aged 25 or younger.

I mean, I'll be surprised if he pans out, but he does have skill. He's a scorer.
