Joe Davis is f***ing awesome.

I also think Faust is too, though. I really like him. I know that's not popular around here.

He has two problems--one, locally, is his chemistry with Jim is a shitshow. It's not his abilities making our telecast suck. The second is, while he's got a great voice, he doesn't have a unique, legendary voice. Like, I only know it's Faust because we listen to him all the time. If I didn't he could be anyone. Maybe that's just a function of time, but everyone knows when Doc is on the call.

Dont forget--dude is only 32 years old. He's got decades to sharpen. He's an absolute phenom for his age.

Joe Davis is young too but I absolutely think he's a legend in the making. I could listen to him and Orel all day. When he gets amped up I do too. But same goes for Faust, he just hasn't had shit to call--but I LOVE a good Faust goal call
I’m also a fan of Faust, I think he brings in good energy into his calls.

Bob was never going to be easy to follow. Faust is OK, could have done better, could have done worse. It's definitely fair to say the deck is completely stacked against the guy - following a legend, team going to shit when he started, Jim trying to over adjust the first year and so on. He does have a good voice that's easy to listen to and could definitely turn into a solid PBP guy, it's just going to take time.

I love Nick, but he's so good on radio. He has a knack for describing what the listener can't see that is uncanny. I honestly didn't get that feeling when he was filling in for Bob, it was like his biggest strength was rendered pointless. He still was very good, he's just built for radio.

Faust f***s up a lot. That's what bugs me. He gets names wrong a lot. He miscalls plays like crediting saves when the puck goes wide and such.

His inflection changes at the wrong moments, missing larger events and overstating minor ones.

He is likeable, just does a poor job calling the action.

have you listened to him calling the playoffs?
He does what you mentioned during the Kings games, but I have no caught him doing it on the national broadcasts?

I watched most of the games thus far in the post season and Faust has been completely fine.

When he gets on the mic w/ Fox it feels like he adjusts his play-by-play in a negative way.

He tries to up his comedic value to that of Fox and it completely falls flat while ruining the call of the game.

He also tries to lay on thick his wealth of hockey knowledge but it's easy to see that he just started watching hockey once he landed the gig.

Foxy & 'Faust-y' simply don't work.

Couple problems with Faust.
First, Kings have sucked and fans tend to get annoyed by everything.
Second, Faust wanders off too much on commentary/stories unrelated to the action, which Bob almost never did.
The second problem kind of leads to the missing larger events issue.

I generally like his game calling but would be better if he stuck to play by play.

I mean, can you blame him?

- f***stick passes tof***stick and f***stick can't handle the pass
- f***stick can't clear the zone
- f***stick can't make the save
- f***stick is offsides on the 2 on 1
- f***stick shoots wide

I'd get tired of calling that shit too.

I think Faust does a good job during the national broadcasts too. Its crazy that he and Brendan Burke, the PXP guy of the Islanders, almost sound like their voices were separated at birth

This interview was my favorite of Alex Faust ...interviewing Turcotte, Madden and Hults. He did a great interview and had great questions...after seeing this, I realized there is just something that
is less appealing about his work with Fox. Check this out, it's a good interview (about a yr ago) and you can see him in a relaxed setting, casual dress and does a great job.
He's very likable in this. No suit, glasses and slicked hair and still professional....no having to do the competing with Fox.

Faust lost me when he kept talking about AA willingness to drop the gloves and if MacDermind wasn’t in the lineup they still had AA to do that.

this, the time has come to bid a due to Fox.

When Miller retired I hoped Nick Nichson would take over. He is so good on the radio.

At the end of the day, they could have Snoop doing the play-by-play if they go back to being a 100 point team and a true contender.

We'll like Faust a lot more when they are winning. We are diehard fans that know when a crock of shit is being fed to us and F&F are true company men that try to spin everything into a positive. We're too cold and broken for that so it pisses us off even more.

What is a successful contention year in your mind? They had 102pts and 98pts respectively.

Getting out of the first round, to be honest. I really don’t care about regular season standings. Making the playoffs, and competing into the second round, shows me a team is legitimately contending.

It would be nice to have an entertaining regular season.

Entertaining regular seasons are pretty rare for this franchise.

Even when they won SC's, the regular seasons were a tedious struggle of mostly mediocre boring play. An average team most of the time.

He will never be in Bob Miller's league. Besides he isn't truly tested until he has to call a game in which Esa Pirnes is playing.

Yeah I think I'm in agreement with everyone else in that I think he calls a good game, but the jocularity between Faust and Fox feels forced and it sometimes falls flat. I don't think it is forced, but it feels like it is and maybe it could just be the age difference between the 2. I'm sure they get along great off camera/ off mic so that's probably why they bring that to the broadcast, but sometimes I think it takes away from the game. Now it could be their producers that want more of that, but I have no way of knowing that.
