I am not part of the Maatta hate club, but I can't see them deciding to go with Durzi and Clague in those 6 and 7 spots without veteran cover for the rest of the year. This management group favors security blankets, even tired old ones filled with holes.

Hell, it might even be better management to go with 7 defensemen and use Durzi only in specific situations while Lemieux is out.

could see it happening this way. although not my top choice

Easy choice for me is Maatta on waivers and roll 7 D. Clague and Durzi have too much upside. I would keep them both and pair them with solid, stay at home guys (not saying that's what Doughty is...that line could be a hot mess, lol).

I know Roy is going to stay in the lineup, but if it was me I would love to roll:

Doughty / Clague
Edler / Durzi
Anderson / Bjornfot

I think that would transform our Power Play big time. The first two D pairings also keep those guys on their natural sides.

I hate to bring this up, but did you all notice the caboose of our +/- on the team recently?

Kopitar -7
Kempe -6
Arvidsson -5

Leaders:

Edler +5
Lemieux +5
Grundstrom +4
Lizotte +3
Anderson +3

The balance of power is shifting...

I think Blake and Co. is really going to have to start thinking about who stays and who goes. I'm not saying +/- is everything, but when these kids come up you are going to start have to make some hard decisions with who stays and who goes.

honest question, does anyone know the strength of competition for Lemieux and Lizotte? They have looked really good together the last handful of games, and I am wondering if they are being sheltered or if they are doing it against top competition.

Looks good on paper and would probably work out in reality but doubt they sit roy. But hes been just ok to pretty bad since he returned from injury. If they are looking to make trades hes someone they should include in a package to a team looking for playoff run depth.

How much do you think it would cost for E. Pettersson? Eichel went for Krebs, Tuch, top 10 protected 1st & a swap of a 2nd & 3rd round picks in '23.

So good prospect, decent player & top 10 protected 1st?

Maatta will clear if he is waived.

I don't envy Blake - at some point he's going to have to make a significant trade and rebalance the team out. I suspect he's going to wait until we get into the playoffs and how much noise we can make before committing to that. We will have more cap space next year.

Which is why I don't think he's in any kind of rush to do something now. With players having to rotate in and out of the lineup for various reasons (COVID, injuries, etc.), he's biding time figuring out who's going to have to be sent down/waiver'd before pulling the trigger on some trade out of desperation... unless it's desperation from another GM.

Jake Debrusk is on the market right now.

I'd love to package two of our forwards for him and create some more space.

Something like Athanasiou + Lizotte or Moore + Lizotte kinda thing.

He's done an excellent job at asset management. You can say the Kovalchuk and Petersen signings were not great, but at least he keeps the terms short and doesn't lock us into these ridiculous contracts. Blake seems a little more measured than Dean was. I didn't really care for the McClellan signing because Blake had history with him in San Jose. The Kings really didn't take a step forward until they got a GM who was wasn't an ex-Kings player.

I think the biggest gripe I have with the team in general is just culture. You want to see a team where the guys put their hearts and souls into winning. We all saw what it took on those Stanley Cup winning teams. It was a combination of leadership, grit, determination and a winning culture that started from the top and filtered down to all areas of the organization.
