That's why Cernak for Bishop was such a ridiculous tade. That was when Dean lost me

I didn't have a good read on Cernak. Thought it was a guy who would be a #6 D-man and LA moved up in the draft for Bishop. So i was ok with at the time. Mostly for moving up in the draft not for the goalie...although Bishops mask was awesome

He is and I was glad to see it but would like to see more.

Let’s draft a mean dmen.

You can’t win in the playoffs without guys who physically bring it. They don’t have to be fighter type guys although I’ll always love those type of guys.

Look at Detroit and how they drafted. Two huge physical defensemen. Both of those guys are going to crack opponents skulls for years to come and Stevie Y knows what he’s doing.

Joel Edmundson will likely be available as Montreal rebuilds. He signed for $3.5 mm through 2024, quite reasonable, is 28 and has a left shot. He played great in the playoffs and has a physical style. He could probably be had for a prospect and a mid range pick.

good target, although who does he replace? Easy answer is Maatta but in my head Maatta is already gone, and I don't want Clague and Durzi watching games.

I was against the trade. Not because the Kings gave up Cernak, but because Budaj was playing so well with the team. I get Lombardi wanted insurance if Quick went down, but Budaj was doing great and seemed to be a good team guy. I understand it's a business and winning is the ultimate goal, but why trade a guy that is not only playing great in his role for you, but also a guy the team gels with?

Sutter hated Peter Budaj. Don't think I've seen a coach throw a goalie under the bus as much as Sutter did with him.

Darryl Sutter says Peter Budaj 'wasn't very good' as Kings blanked again

The one thing I remember about Peter Budaj were the really easy shots he'd allow early into games that had us play catch up all the time.

Other than that he was an absolutely fantastic 3rd string goalie.

Budaj played admirably for us, but the team definitely played a lot more conservatively in front of him. 25.47 SA/60 was right near the bottom of the Sutter era Kings and not surprisingly contributed to a 2.43 GF/GP for 2017.

For some reason I thought he played better than that. Maybe I just chose to remember the good games!

Well at the time we certainly weren't hurting for the physical element

There was also plenty of smoke that cernak didn't like the Kings, and I believe he confirmed that in an interview in tampa

still a bad asset trade but allegedly he was on the outs one way or another

Wasn't aware of that. It would add a little more sense as to why he was traded for sure.

The 2016-17 season is the most misunderstood season in LA Kings history as far as I'm concerned.
Quite a strange year. We had 5 different goalies, Teddy Purcell started the season as a top six forward, Tom Gilbert and freaking Devin Setoguchi were on the team, Trevor Lewis was 5th in goal scoring. Oh and Anze Kopitar didn't even lead the team in points that season as well.
