The loss of Doughty has really exposed the lack of blueline depth the Kings have, and is also proving how they have no #2 defenseman and nobody is close to claiming that spot on this blueline. It's also exposing how some guys can't handle the pressure of more responsibilities and minutes.

Absolutely, yet it's an important lesson AND visual, especially for the out of market idiots who think Doughty is just a passenger, just there.

What I would do for now:

Kaliyev-Kopitar-Brown
Iafallo-Danault-Vilardi
Kempe-Moore-Arvidsson
Grundstrom-JAD-Kupari

Feel free to interchange Vilardi/Kaliyev or send Kaliyev down so he's playing real minutes.

Anderson-Walker
Bjornfot-Roy
Wolanin-Edler OH WHATS THAT WE KEPT MAATTA TERRIFIC in that case Strand. Edler - Walker / Anderson - Roy / Bjornfot - Strand
Strand had some toughness to get his game in the A. It’s not existent in the NHL.

Look all I'm saying is if I have to pick between a corpse and Maatta, I know the corpse isn't going to turn the puck over after trying to dangle 4 players

I think someone told Maata when he signed that he was expected to play with Drew Doughty and Google Translate messed up and told him that he was expected to play like Drew, and unfortunately no one has clued him in during the interim.

Did I miss Tkachev getting hurt, or he just scratched?

Here is how Todd is picking lines nowadays…

Kylington is an improvement to he bottom 3 that LA is icing. It's not big game hunting but it is an upgrade that would not cost much at all.

Calgary is currently carrying 8 d on their roster as they do not want to waive any and lose on waivers.

When healthy, Kylington doesn't do anything for the Kings. Assuming Doughty isn't out forever, now the Kings will have 8 D. Unless Calgary takes Maatta back. As much as we want it, Maatta isn't going to the minors any time soon.

If Doughty is out forever, what's the point if giving any asset for a non-1D? Just live with what's there, and see you next year.

Positives thus far:
  • Kopitar
  • Doughty
  • Brown
  • Arvidsson
  • Lemieux
  • Byfield's preseason
  • Ontario Reign's start
Disappointments:
  • I got a message from HF that said "hit character limit"

All I can think of is how game 1 was such a mindf***....then you look at the standings and say 'hey, we looked awesome against the last place team.' -- guess it all makes sense now.

The end of the Lizotte era is nigh upon us. Either that or it’s nearing the end of the Vilardi era.

Par for the course, Todd finds a new way to muddy the waters. It’s as if he has a nose for manufacturing mediocrity. Off the top, you see Kaliyev promoted, but only to play with Danault, who has stones in his gloves. Brown scoring late during a blowout was all the coaches needed to see to keep Bropitar happy.

He offsets the opportunity for Kaliyev by allocating 9 minutes for Gabe, who is looking forward to taking draws on the road and getting off the ice ASAP. The only remaining mystery is how Todd will make the PP go into the dumpster. Where something is working, the coach is hot on the trail to make sure that stops.

Honestly if you're just going to bury Vilardi instead of even trying him at wing, just trade him. This is apparent to everyone except TM. When he goes off and gets 25 goals and 60 points elsewhere and we're left here going "wow I wonder where all the scoring wingers are" we can look at this year and laugh.

Forcing Gabe to be a C when we have so many other Cs around and he's the most visibly skilled and able to smartly transition to wing already basically playing a winger's game is completely insane to me. But sure lets give him 8 minutes on the 4th line to prove everyone wrong. "show me what you've got, son."

f*** this organization completely right now, man. We have seen some shit but I am on the verge of just following another team this year.

I'm gonna wait to see how the ice time is distributed for these lines. Kupar playing over Lizzotte is something I like.

i dunno if the burying comments are quite justified, tmac was "basically" rolling 4 last game, given there was a ton of special teams and the game was out of hand quickly..

if he defaults to the 1-2-1-3-1-4 kinda shit like usual in a closer game yeah, lay into him but that wasn't really what happened last game

i'll take lizotte out, tkachev in and kaliyev promotion as a good thing for the moment

i think that kupari line has some promise honestly, i'll go so far as to say i think they might grab a goal tonight

Other players not being able to step up is the biggest disappointment. In situations like this you need your young guys to perform, and at least keep the ship from sinking.

I know we now look at Martin Jones with some level of derision, but when Quick went down in the 2013-14, and Martin Jones stepped in to start 18 games, and go 12-6, with a GAA on the season of 1.81 and save percentage of .934, that is classic "next man up does the job".

None of the Kings young guys seem to be capable of doing this right now.

I'm not worried about Vilardi being on the fourth line for a few reasons. Firstly, as someone else said, TM's been rolling lines more evenly. Saying he'll get eight minutes doesn't jive with what the numbers tell us. There's no forward who's played for us this year that is getting under 11 minutes a night, so even on the fourth line Gabe will likely see 11-14 minutes. Secondly, what exactly has Vilardi done this year to standout and earn more? The same can be said about a few forwards for sure, but how has he clearly earned more ice time than others? He's just as worthy of 4th line minutes as anyone so far, his age shouldn't be what gets him out of there.

For me, if i want vilardi learning from kopitar I put him with him for a few games:

Arvidsdon-Kopitar-Vilardi
Iafallo-Danault-Brown
Kempe-Kupari-Kaliyev
Grundtrom/Moore/Tkachev-JAD-Grundstrom/Moore/Tkachev
