First off, I would appreciate if your posts did not appear to me as coming off as condescending. I can only speak for myself and I do not know if that's your intention, but when I read your posts and try to perceive them, that's how they come off. If you want to criticize my intellectual integrity, my PMs are open for you and we can discuss there.

Secondly, you wrote "unable to build a contender". The Blues won as many games as any other team did against the Avalanche in the playoffs, who won the Stanley Cup, so I do not follow your logic as to claiming why the Blues aren't a contender.

They had 109 points this season, had the most 20 goal scorers on a team in almost 30 years, and advanced to the second round, where they lost to the Stanley Cup champions. Mind you, this was after having a decimated defense in the first round and having to change goalies in the second round due to injury.

If that seems harsh or I seem like a simpleton, that's fair. I went out last night, sang karaoke, and had more than I intended to drink before starting work remote at 8 am my time today. I can't be awesome 365 days a year.
I am literally asking for the most cursory of things. It's just not intellectually honest to reframe "unable to build a contender" as "not winning the Cup every year" and it's not cool that I have to explain why that isn't honest. I think that a young person could spot the flaw there. It would be a very basic LSAT spot the flaw question. You're defining "contender" as "win the Cup EVERY year." I don't know what going out last night has to do with doing this or not doing this, I am asking if you will please not do this.

That was my way of indicating to you that I acknowledge I misread your initial post and still did not follow your logic for deeming the Blues as not contenders.

I apologize for misreading.

Again, I do not appreciate your condescending tone and there’s no need to mention how it’s a LSAT spot the flaw question. I took the GRE, by the way.

I would’ve paid Perron what he wanted but given Armstrong’s past moves I can’t see why this is viewed as shocking.

Additionally, Blues were willing to meet Pietrangelo on his salary demands or come close to it. Issue was NMC.

IMO, the decision on Backes was probably the most cut throat (and right) one. The other 2 are hard to swallow.
Blues never got close to Petros salary demands. That is why he left.

He let Backes and Pietrangelo walk as well as traded Berglund when his agent didn’t submit his list for teams for his NTC…
Backes was a 5 year deal. Pietrangelo was a 7 year deal. Both were for a higher AAV when the cap was lower. Berglund sucked. Apples and oranges.

You see that there is no need, but that is from your perspective. From my perspective, I deal with this day after day after day from different people here so it's not a problem that abates. As someone who selectively challenges accepted thinking, often with force, I understand the dynamic that comes back. I am simply expressing frustration with this one utterly common thing and I appreciate your acknowledgment a lot actually.

You disdain my tone, but to understand my tone, my patient tone was exhausted about a decade back when one of the regulars here actually went so far as to research me and use my photo as his avatar. And that is the tip of the iceberg as far as context. I'm sorry that you felt my tone was over the line; there is context.

I have taught LSAT before and was looking at some old teaching materials last night, so "spot the flaw" was fresh on my mind. And that's what I experience on this site, just basic logical reasoning flaws, and I am much more frustrated with it in general than our one single interaction.

It's going to be a long offseason with some of these reactions going around.
"Trust" in the GM and those around him has hit rock bottom with some of us. We could swallow DP leaving for big bucks, but he wanted to be here and DA ignored him. For a heart and soul guy who gave STL more than he got, this is atrocious.

I appreciate you providing your context.

Just because I perceive something one way doesn’t mean others do, so I could be out on my own with my perception. I don’t try to usually be intentionally obtuse (I don’t claim that you were saying I was) or to misconstrue views deliberately.

English is also a funny language and I know syntax and vernacular from reading/writing also doesn’t always translate the best when compared to speech.

We don't know that. There's also a bigger picture in play that none of us are privy to.

I really think you are going way overboard on this
Perron just made 10,000,000 dollars over the next two years, he is not hurting
St Louis fans will love him no matter what

DA, agree with him or not on any specific move, is going to try and do his best for the Blues franchise, and has to view it from the lens of the next season, plus seasons beyond and sentimentalism is fine, but only if it doesn't have a negative impact on the team now and in the future

My childhood friend came over for dinner and noticed there was no available seat. What he did notice was a skewer and a juicy apple.

Gut geschmeken! Lecker! Lecker!

Re-reading the coverage and re-watching the end of year press conference where DA specifically states he loves the guy and wants to get him signed and then Perron saying in the interview above that it was never about maximizing every dollar and the Blues simply never showed much interest/offered a formal deal and he knew he was all but gone at Schenn's wedding is just....odd.

I get the impression that DA never kept him in the loop after the season ended. DP said it best, paraphrasing: it was like a childhood best friend telling you "let's do lunch" and he never calls.

This is purely my own speculation based on a report that they had talked about a one-year deal. While it may not have been a formal offer, I wonder if Army went to Perron's agent and asked if he'd consider a one-year deal because that's all they could manage given the current cap situation, and when Perron said he couldn't do that (and nobody could blame him) both parties knew the relationship was ending.

I understand why the Blues had to move on. I understand why Perron would be disappointed that the team couldn't manage a two-year deal. But I have a very hard time believing there were zero discussions.

I’ve experienced a shitty doxxing episode several years ago on another site. You have my sympathy. It still bothers me to this day. I worked for a state government at the time, so even my annual salary was searchable.

I know the episode you’re citing. I’ve been in the site under a different handle/account for a long time.

I responded to implore you to separate the actions of a different asshole from the current assholes (myself included) posting here now. None of us have earned the disdain that comes across in many of your posts. Your explanation makes sense, but doesn’t justify. I enjoy your tendency to challenge groupthink and parroted fallacies. I just wish you’d do it in a way that didn’t look like you’re keeping score somewhere in some kind of game none of the rest of us are playing.

The Blues at least have Krug and Schenn for 6.5M when they are each 34 and 35. Since I know Ruthless Doug is so ruthless with his dollars when it comes to 34 and 35 year old years. What an emotionless assassin of brilliant and ruthless team building.

Perron led the Blues in goals and points in the playoffs. Not anyone else.

I thought he said something along the lines of "but doesn't leave a spot for you at the table" rather than never calls? The messaging is a little different.

this is worst time in years to be a blues fan. have not been so upset since pronger was traded for peanuts. ALL THEY HAD TO DO WAS SIGN CHUCKIE.

DAMN YOU DOUG ARMSTRONG. FIRE THE BUM
