headng to Montreal
Scratch him off the list of potential Bura replacements
A steal early on perhaps, but he's 30 years old with consistent injury issues and signed until he's 36. The last half of this deal could look like Dustin Brown 2.0 for Pittsburgh. What a steal. Someone is gonna give Bura that much money and regret it.
If you think about it, the realignment is not even necessary, QC would only be another game in an East Coast road trip for Western teams twice a year. QC would bear the load of the "misalignment", a price they would surely pay to get back in.The big problem with that that I see is the divisional realignment they would have to do. The new Nordiques can't stay in the Central, after all. They'd have to kick somebody over from the East to the West, and that would be a headache. I think that as much as anything is going to be a hurdle to moving the Yotes to QC, Houston makes much more sense in that regard.
Oh I think you'll be surprised this offseason then. There will 100% be a team willing to trade for Petr Mrazek despite the poor numbers. Whether the Leafs have to attach an asset to move him is a different topic but I think that's the route they'll take this summer and use Mrazek's money on Campbell. Then you'll have Campbell/Kallgren as the 1-2 combo next season.Gio's contract is great and all, but who's playing goalie? Say Ondrej, Engvall, Sandin, and Liljergren accept their qualifying offers, that leaves like $3 mill to re-sign or replace Campbell. Not enough. And that's with letting Mikheyev walk via UFA. Leaf fans seem to think they'll be able to dump Mrazek free of charge; no one wants a goalie with a 3.34 GAA 0.888 SV% in 20 games making 3.8m for 2 more years.
We have to keep in mind for a lot of these older vets it was their dream growing up to play for the hometown Leafs. Spezza, Simmonds, Giordano, Clifford, Thornton. All Ontario born and raised getting the opportunity to come "home" and play even if they're not all from Toronto directly.I think it's fine to take a discount when everyone does it like in Boston and Tampa but it's f***ed to take a discount in Toronto with their greedy top players who got paid above market value at the time of the signings and are now taking all the cap space

Oilers, possibly Montreal.Who all needs a starting goalie? Chicago, New Jersey, and Buffalo, that's about it (assuming we re-sign Kuemper).
I don't know if it's a matter of "who needs a starter" but "who could use an experienced NHL goalie as a backup/1B" sort of deal.Who all needs a starting goalie? Chicago, New Jersey, and Buffalo, that's about it (assuming we re-sign Kuemper). But there's Campbell, Husso who are UFAs. The need is bare, last season was the year of musical goalies.
I don't know how good his skating is. He sure looks slow when he's out there. Got a fantastic shot but I have my doubts about him being a full time producing NHLer on a good team. Perhaps he can thrive on bad teams with lots of PP time.I'd take Tolvanen as a reclamation project.
Died with Palm Springs… and Boise will get a team before Colorado SpringsUh-oh, one of the west coast teams is gone.
Wonder whatever happened to the talk regarding a 2nd minor league team in Colorado.
