Carjackers will probably regret accidentally robbing a famous person, gotta think the high profile nature will make it more likely for them to be caught

Does anyone else like See No Evil on ID? The high profile nature of this could easily allot the necessary man hours for going through closed circuit video systems of local businesses.

A new ECHL team emerges, the Savannah Ghost Pirates!

A handy, dandy place to stow some of those contracts when Vegas is massaging the cap next year! :thumbu:

They don't just have to play all year in a tiny college arena, they have to play all year with the ASU logo at center ice?

That franchise is an embarrassment to every player that has to play for them and the league in general. They have to put every other NHL team through the embarrassment of playing there too. All because Bettman refuses to fix the situation.

I think for Bettman now it's a sunk cost thing. If he moves the franchise now, he would be admitting that he was wrong to double and triple down on the whole experiment in the first place. It's got to be about personal pride for him at this point, because if "losing their arena due to unpaid rent" isn't the bar for moving a club, then I can't imagine what low point for them would prompt him to throw in the towel.

Maybe, but if so he's not doing his job. This decision impacts all the teams, all the players, and definitely the poor Arizona players that have to go through this. That's a lot more important than Bettman's pride.

And how's it going to end if he just doubles and triples down? Doesn't seem like it's going to end well, and he could look even worse in the end. We'll see though.

In fact, I don't have an Athletic sub any more to read the details, but that "good behavior" clause sounds like a disaster in the making. What are the details of that?

If some A hole on the Coyotes or maybe even another team gets caught using a racial epithet or something like that, what happens? They can't play there anymore? Or if there's a big old school line brawl? Or somebody pulls a Bertuzzi/McSorely? If it's open for interpretation from ASU, that could end up being a problem for the NHL.

Oh I don't think it's going to end well at all. He's not acting rationally at this point, that's the point I'm trying to make. The only explanation I can come up with to fit what's happening is that it's Bettman's ego driving these decisions, not what's best for the league.

Bettman has never acted rationally when it comes to the Coyotes. They've always been his pet project and he will never let them die. It's going to have to wait until Bettman is no longer part of the NHL for anything to happen to the Coyotes, at which point I'd have to believe things move fairly quickly.

I think it has a lot to do with their belief that a market in Arizona and the south west is key for their TV and marketing deals. That was the rationale originally.

That always felt like an overly simplistic explanation to me though. I think they just made poor decisions on which owners they approved, and those owners put people who were bad at their jobs in positions of power to make things works. And it's weird to me that they think the Phoenix area is some gem that they refuse to leave.

So I think the problem is some sort of combination of bad owners, with bad management people, and Bettman quadrupling down on his pet project. Just the perfect storm of incompetence and ego is the problem.

Born and raised in Arizona (grew up part time in Chicago) and let me tell you, no one watches hockey in Arizona and if they do it was either Avalanche or Red Wings (it was the 90s).

The Savannah Ghost Pirates arena will hold 4,500 more people than the Arizona Coyote's next season. Just sayin'.

Relocate the Coyotes yesterday, and that's obvious.
It truly is a miracle they are allowed to keep going in Arizona. The team is bleeding money season after season and now it's turned into a complete farce for the league.

Move them to Canada and the team makes a profit every season. Instead, they rather have them play in front of 5000 fans in a market that doesn't really care that much.

I'm surprised the owners aren't making a fuss over this, because at the end of the day Bettman is just their puppet. I get having some patience, but at this point all Arizona is does is put less money into their pocket.

They are… some leaks are already out there, but it’s worse behind the scenes.

I think owners love that they have a contract dumping ground. Without the current CBA rules I don't think they would have tolerated ARZ for that long.

Send them to QC. I don’t really think it’s big enough to be the healthiest of markets, but it’ll definitely be better than Arizona
