Yes, I think his offensive explosion last season set some unrealistic expectations for Miller in the short term. There’s a lot to be excited about with him, and some of it was on display last night. He completely faked a Canadian forward out near the blue line in the offensive zone last night. For someone his size that is mighty impressive.

Let’s not sugarcoat that play though. High risk is what Zac Jones did on the empty net. There was nothing high risk about Miller’s play - it was just dumb. And it came on top of an overall brutal game.

I’m confident he will rebound though. I don’t think anyone was good on the US last night outside of Knight. Even the player of the game, Shane Pinto, was responsible for the first two goals against.

I've only seen Miller play a few times since we've drafted him, and I must say that his offensive skills are top notch, especially for a big guy.
However, his defensive zone play and decision making are weak. It's as if he doesn't know where to be, who to cover in the d-zone, looks lost...reminds me of Sean Day

Almost seems as if he's somewhat inexperienced playing as a defenseman

He's back on the second pairing again today for the game against Germany.

Jones still on third pairing.

Miller is probably our most overrated prospect. That's not to say he's a bad prospect, but the upside assigned to him by some is just not based in reality

He'll probably need two full seasons in the AHL before he gets any kind of crack at the NHL

So then what’s his upside?

His upside is immense. His physical tools and offensive skill set are fantastic. If he can learn the defensive side of things, he could be a monster. I don't think his upside is overstated at all. His readiness is overstated, for sure, but I think the upside is legit.

A player with his skills and offensive ability, if his defense was further along, I think he would have been right there with Hughes, Boqvist and Bohchard in the top ten. If he pans out he's a game-changer in multiple ways.

It feels like after the year a lot of the prospects had last year, and the big summer, and all the press about how great the Rangers prospect is has made a lot of people lose patience or lost the idea that a rebuild isn’t over in 18 months

Aside from one play where he got completely undressed again, Miller looks better.

Should have gotten an assist on an amazing cross ice pass. Recipient missed the shot.

Just watching the game now from yesterday and I just saw the goal that apparently was also miller’s fault on the PK where the guy blew it over knights shoulder just like they did the powerplay prior? That was miller’s fault? Lol

he went down to a knee to block it but the goalie see it didn’t go thru Miller went over the dragged back leg. Samuelsson did the same thing. Knight is standing on the goal line. He should have made both those stops.

ps funny what having a lefty on the right wall of the powerplay will do for you. Clearly Quinn wasn’t watching.

but blaming miller for this one? Lol. He’s been solid outside of one long shift they got caught on. I know he got posterized for the lafreniere goal but that’s just a heck of a play by the kid who’s going first overall this summer.

Jones looks very good as he usually does

Apologies if this was discussed earlier in the thread but is there any way to stream this tournament without having NHL network on cable? Even just a radio stream would be great.

One interesting thing I’ve noticed is how little Miller has defended on the rush thus far this tournament. It’s one of his strengths, but it seems like his partner is getting all of the work in this department.

I wonder if this is intentional by the other team. Unlikely in such a short tournament, but it definitely happens in the NHL.
