Nice!

Although it's funny one of the teams that voted no is doing this.

Seems like Killorn likes it in Tampa and would like to stay. All he has to do is list 16 teams that don't have cap space and Tampa can't move him. Then they are in a real problem. They would need two of Gourde, Palat, or Johnson to waive their full NTC and trade them to a team of their choice. Easier said than done.

I calculate that they have to move $6M - $8M of salary out. Should be interesting to watch. I think there is a serious chance they trade Sergachev. LD stuck behind Hedman and McDonagh and not so sure they have full confidence he can be effective at RD. Plus Sergachev, Cirelli, and Cernak are all pending RFA's looking for raises. $10M at least to sign all 3.

Listening right now to the Gord Miller TSN690 segment from last evening and you can see why the NHL really wants and needs to finish this season to recover some of that much needed lost revenue.

He just said that the NBA TV deal is worth just shy of 3 billion while the NHL TV deal is only worth 700 million. Said those TV deals don't include local TV deals which is also much higher in the NBA than the NHL so the NHL are likely a bit desperate to finish their season here.

Also talked about the NHL likely having to refund local and national TV money for those lost TV games and that refund could cost the NHL close to a billion dollars. Not sure if his numbers are accurate but if they are and I have no reason to doubt him you can see why the NHL is trying everything they can to get this season finished and those playoff games on TV. Hearing numbers like this makes it even more clear why both the Hawks and Habs were included since both have very large fanbases but we knew that already.

Miller: NHL should start next season later

Overall revenue in 2018/2019 was $5B. Season was canceled with about 12 games left to play (+/-). That's about 15% loss. Playoffs likely is around $500M to $1B range of total revenue but that is a wild guess(Probably closer to $500M vs $1B). If they canceled the season, I bet they would loose $1B - $1.25B for sure. That would have massive issues for next year's salary cap. Players want to play for multiple reasons if you ask me and playing hockey is not the only reason.

This is a business (like it or not)

Holy crap, play will start in august? Makes no sense, just call it done with ffs

I don't know if they'll need 3 1/2 weeks of camp. But if that is the case, yikes. Good night, Irene.

What's the point if they start in August to play into September/October when they can just wait another month to 6 weeks and just start camps for next year.

Last year the playoffs started on April 10 and finished on June 12. So 2 months plus an added play in round that will probably last 10 days.

So mid-October finish would seems likely. Maybe there will be snow on the ground when the Cup is awarded.

It also depends if Round 1 and Round 2 will be Best-of-5 or Best-of-7. We know the Conference finals and finals will be Best-of-7. But if they make the first two rounds Best-of-5, it could help it go quicker.

It could shave off 8 days in total. Is that worth it, maybe it is if every day counts and they are worried about the second wave coming in the fall.
