I have only hated one team in my life. When I grew up there were 3 soccer and 2 hockey teams in my hometown. I was an AIK (Common Athletic Club) fan and the other team that also played hockey was NSK (Nyköping Sport Club). AIK was mostly the better team but the derbys were always tough. Then they merged, I have not hated any teams since that.

The reason I believe that Habs are very hated among the Bruins fans might be a slight inferiority complex due to all the losses to the Habs (I know it wasn't yesterday but if you grow up and almost always lose to a particular team, it might be possible)? I doubt young Bruins fans hate the Habs very much, but who knows? Otherwise Bruins HF Boards are one of the best I have come across.
Bruins and Habs fans are more similar than they'd like to admit. A lot of French descendants in both places, and the cities are somewhat similar with a rich history. Add to that a good knowledge of hockey, and the fact we beat them so often in the play-offs when we shouldn't have, might justify a strong dislike.

When have we beat the Bruins in the playoffs when we "shouldn't have"? Agree with all the other stuff you said

Habs were supposed to get 1 top 10 pick + 2 more picks in the top 40. If both Montreal and Chicago win their play-ins, these 3 picks will drop massively, as well as many of their 11 other picks. And they will lose their lottery ticket. On a rebuilding team, that's a bad news. It's a pretty expensive price to pay, for one round of hockey. And I think the odds of beating the Pens is pretty good.

I'm not sure the management is thrilled about this.
Nah I’m sure MB and Molson are thrilled about having a shot at making the playoffs. Bergevin probably doesn’t even understand the math behind the new lottery rules.

just read some comments from Betman... looks like not only this season is screwed but also the next one. If I understood correctly next season will likely only start in January? Why can't they just scrap this season and start fresh in Sept? Will these owners really go broke? (they don't strike me as people who struggle from paycheck to paycheck)

Yeah, it's gonna f*** everything up going forward. Like okay, so next season starts in January.. then what about the following season?

At some point, you're going to have to shorten something to get back to our regular programming.

They'll have to shorten next year and then 21-22 will be back to normal. I don't really see the issue with that.

So... My question... What incentive do the Habs have to play hard and try and beat the Pens in the play-in round?

I mean the team can't possibly believe they can go all the way so... Play hard and risk injury, drop 8+ spots in the draft and go from drafting a potential starting roster player to a most probable dud. Stay stuck in some city all summer away from your family.

Why would a team like the Habs, Hawks, rangers etc... Want to play hard and try to win?

I don't see the incentive... Am I wrong here?

You are thinking it from a logical perspective.

These are professional athletes with huge egos. Even though they are horrendous as a team, they will believe they can win a cup.

I think they'll just shorten the offseason before the 21-22 season. Next year run January-July or something and start in Oct 2021 for the year after.

I was listening to ESPN Radio last night on my home from work. The hosts, Freddie Coleman and Ian Fitzsimmons were praising the NHL. I don't listen to them much but they were saying how they rail on Bettman and the NHL all the time and how they are often behind the ball.

However in this case, they were praising them for being the first ones to come out with a detailed plan on resuming. They were talking about how for weeks on end, they wouldn't hear anything from the NHL. They would hear about the other leagues. But never the NHL. So they were criticizing them for being mum.

Then yesterday happened and the hosts were praising Bettman and the NHL for being the first to come out with a plan. While the other leagues were saying this and that in public, the NHL was in a bunker working.

Can we mess with all the superstar players tests on the other teams and say that they are positive? Get rid of Crosby, Ovie etc...

I can just see it.

NHL: "So you say this is Crosby's test"

Habs: "Yep"

NHL: "But the name says Albertine Lapensée, from CHSLD Herron"

Habs: "Pseudonym to protect Sydney"

NHL: "Positive."

Habs: "Positive, yeah!"

NHL: "The testee is a polio survivor and is living in an iron lung."

Habs: "...."

NHL: "We didn't realise that."

Habs: "Amazing isn't it?"
