When's the first game?
Unknown. They still aren't sure when training camp will start but for they confirmed it will definitely not happen before July 1st. Will probably be between 1st-15th of July for Training camp. That will last at least 2 weeks, so my guess is the earliest the POs starts is around July 20th, latest mid-august.

If Buffalo loses Eichel, they are toast with a first line of Reinhart and Skinner. Jeff Skinner scored 11 games in 28 games to start the season, on pace for 30 goals, but Skinner then goes on a 24 games goalless streak not including the 10 games he missed due to an injury.

Skinner is not coming to the Canadiens as he wants to win and Montreal isn't winning anything anytime soon.

I forgot everything with this freaking pandemia. Did we suck this season ?

More seriously, I know they really did not deserve to make the playoffs but I will still watch and won't be unhappy if they win.

Gotta wonder if playoffs games in empty arenas are much fun to watch though.

The first lottery will determine if we really want the Habs to win. Imagine if all top 3 picks are won by TeamsA-H. it would be almost a crime to beat Pittsburgh :)

What’s the package?

Well that would make it Drouin, Suzuki, Romanov, Caufield, 2020 1st (not top 3), unprotected 2021 1st.

Edit: I wouldn’t do this deal (too many players), just seeing at what point Sterling Archer would say no to a deal with Eichel.

On Swedish news they said that the Canucks might have the training camp in the US due to the 2 weeks quarantine rule in Canada. Is this something the Habs are planning to do as well?

Can't the quarantine rule be circumvented by having the players tested? The whole idea of the 2 week quarantine rule is a basic precaution for your average person who is coming from abroad and who has no symptoms. NHL players will in all likelihood had full access to immediate testing so it shouldn't apply.

Listening right now to the Gord Miller TSN690 segment from last evening and you can see why the NHL really wants and needs to finish this season to recover some of that much needed lost revenue.

He just said that the NBA TV deal is worth just shy of 3 billion while the NHL TV deal is only worth 700 million. Said those TV deals don't include local TV deals which is also much higher in the NBA than the NHL so the NHL are likely a bit desperate to finish their season here.

Also talked about the NHL likely having to refund local and national TV money for those lost TV games and that refund could cost the NHL close to a billion dollars. Not sure if his numbers are accurate but if they are and I have no reason to doubt him you can see why the NHL is trying everything they can to get this season finished and those playoff games on TV. Hearing numbers like this makes it even more clear why both the Hawks and Habs were included since both have very large fanbases but we knew that already.

Miller: NHL should start next season later

RDS has been saying it since last week. Habs, Hawks and Rangers included to generate interest from large markets that would have otherwise been excluded.

The NHL decided to add three large hockey markets first and foremost.

I don't know if they'll need 3 1/2 weeks of camp. But if that is the case, yikes. Good night, Irene.

What's the point if they start in August to play into September/October when they can just wait another month to 6 weeks and just start camps for next year.

"What's the point" is pretty much the NHL's alter ego. You can easily draw up a long laundry list. There is a reason the NHL remains a niche sport.

This season should be terminated. No logical sense for doing this which will screw up next season.

Barring that, those who are completely disgusted by the way the NHL has chosen to restart, can also massively social distance. Hockey in July and August, lol. Leave it to the NHL to come up with such absurdities.

I don’t think it’s realistic to just keep adding names to make a trade. More like figure out what package gets it done.

Why would the Habs pay substantially more for Eichel than Dallas paid for Seguin, San Jose paid for Thornton, or Philadelphia paid for Lindros?

Players simply don't go for that much.

But hey, why not:

Kotkaniemi, Suzuki, Caulfield, 1st, 1st, 1st, 1st, Danault, Romanov, Drouin, Domi, and Ylonen?

And a 2nd.

Drouin, Suzuki, Romanov, 2020 1st (assuming its not top 3), and an unprotected 2021 1st.

The problem is the Habs don’t have anything close to Eichel to trade.

If Eichel wants out, it'll damage his value in a trade. What it will come down to is how good Buffalo will be at raising competing offers.

I was just seeing at what point Sterling Archer would say no to that package. I’m not proposing that deal. Eichel is far superior now than Seguin was when he got traded. Agreed on Thornton and Lindros. I don’t see a deal that would bring Eichel here btw. If Buffalo were to trade him I can’t see them dealing with a team in their own division.
