Schneider was a kid we projected to go 15th to Toronto.

ISS had him 13th, McKenzie had him at 17, McKeen's had him at 15, Rangers had him at 12, the Board Mock also had him at 15.

I do think we need to keep that in perspective a bit.

Zary was on my do not want list.

Not that Schneider was on my want list, but if that was the alternative, we came out ahead.

He plays a very, very, VERY junior game and can't skate.

I cannot stress enough how highly rated this kid was in particularly by the teams on the west coast that watched him a lot.

He looks like he could be the type of player teams salivate over. Big, physical, good skater, good shot, good defensive instincts.

The hate for the Schneider pick solely because of our current RD situation is ludicrous IMO...the only reason our current RD situation bears relevance to this pick is it allows us to patiently develop this kid. Drafting BPA > drafting based on need. And if what Edge said is true about the Rangers having him at #12 then he was obviously the BPA on their draft board. Paying a 3rd to jump two division rivals to take a guy who they ranked 7 slots higher than where they were picking him is a no brainer...

It gives you a lot of downstream flexibility. I like the pick. Braden's my type of guy. I try to think about the choice, and particularly the 3rd because I wholeheartedly believe that this year is the year to get a steal in the later rounds.

But I have a smile on my face. If there is a hits reel of this kid in the dub, somebody please post it up.

What’s interesting to me is that the Devils didn’t take Schneider at 18 and then just take whatever forward was left at 20. Likely could have gotten Mercer at 20 anyway, and if not, take a swing at Lapierre.

They have a more talented team but you can still win a series against a talented team. It's not witchcraft. Carolina lost that next series rather quickly. 5 games? They didn't dominate us to be honest. Two early goals off Hank set the tone. The top guys didn't score nearly as much as a regular season but if you watched Carolina, they used speed, tenacity, and compete to backcheck and take time and space away. Their will to win was impressive. Rangers looked like a deer in the headlights.

They dominated possession and outshot us like crazy in the first 2 games

Well there probably was better talent on the board but that's neither here nor there.

My problem is not Schnieder as a player. My problem is we'll take this big tough kid and tell him to never touch anyone entering his own zone because that's how we play.

I'd think with the Martin addition, that will change. We will see.

We already got Lafreniere. f***ing over the Devils and getting a player the Rangers had rated higher than the #19 pick itself is an incredible bonus and a nice cherry on top of the night.

They outshoot just about anybody, though. We get outshot on a regular basis.
