I haven't seen anyone bold enough to say he'll be a #1, all say his ceiling is a good #2, most likely a 2nd pairing guy. The biggest issue I have is that he's a late riser, most people early had him ranked late in the 1st, early in the second, then his showing at the biosteel thing freaked everyone out. I'm wary.

Look at how the praise evolves in the year, and it raises a bit of a red flag for me.

Jake Sanderson | Jake Sanderson Profile | Jake Sanderson Scouting Report 2020

Development is good, but taking a guy from 30th to top-1o in a few months when his game is still nondescript is worrying. COULD develop offensively, COULD have room for growth, etc...and STILL only end up a #2? That doesn't read or look like a top 10 pick to me. It really just reeks of people trying to close the gap between Drysdale and the next guy.

Ahhh. I was thinking we were talking about Drysdale.
"Samsonite! I was way off"

If I’m completely honest, if we win the lottery I’d be quite happy trading back to #2 to take Byfield. The more I read and see, the more I like. I’m only a little hesitant because I have not seen him live. I just love a monster C.

I appreciate the take but it would be a big mistake--too much risk, esp when you finally have the #1 pick.
Lafreniere is too good to pass up.

New hype reel for Cole Perfetti :) hope you guys enjoy

Perfetti is currently ranked outside of the Top 5 - but he's extremely smart (on & off the ice) and you can tell by the shootout against Sweden he has the "Clutch" gene - which is invaluable

Fair enough and you are likely correct, as I’ve seen relatively little of both players. I also think it’s fair to say 100% of the scouts know far more than I do. Lafreniere fits our organisational need also, so if we get #1 we take him every time, I realise it’s not even a debate. However, there’s a bit of me that keeps thinking that Byfield will be the one that ends up with the higher ceiling and better career. I say that fully noting my bias towards big powerful Centers.

Only way I trade back is if Ottawa gives up their 2 picks. Other than that...its Lafreniere all day everyday

I'm with you here! I don't think Ottawa would trade up for Laf, but maybe New Jersey would. I'm praying for us 1st and New Jersey 2nd.....
