Why are we so "committed" to taking a defensemen in this draft with how 2021 looks
Kase jr, no ty. WillHere's the reason why Hendrix Lapierre has dropped this season, from a TSN article:
"Being diagnosed with three concussions in 10 months was worrying for me, my family and my future in hockey," Lapierre admits. "The new diagnosis is a really big relief and I feel confident going into next season that I'll be able to have success. I've strengthened my neck a lot."
That's a huge gamble for the Ducks, considering we traded away a very talented winger because he was injury prone in Kase. Sometimes, availability is the best ability. Concussions are on a different level of health that the medical field doesn't have a great grasp on how to reduce or improve things. The article cites improving his spine will help with his headaches as the specialists he's worked with believe Hendrix only had one concussion and the other symptoms were brought about due to his spine injury.
He's definitely got talent, but many teams might be scared off. He could be a steal at 27th or he could be an unfortunate bust, but not of his own doing. Your org would have to have a great medical staff because they're essentially the ones who will green light selecting Hendrix. I don't know if the Ducks have a sound enough farm system to gamble on a Hendrix at 27th. If Boston owned this pick, then that's a far higher chance they would pick him because Boston's NHL team is set and they do have some depth at center in their system to take a gamble. If Hendrix pans out, then he maybe the be best of the bunch in the Bruin's current system. If not, then Boston still has some good center prospects.
The drafting of Hendrix is a difficult situation and I'm glad I'm not making that decision. From reading THW's write on him, he seems like a slightly better version of Steel. Could always use talent down the middle.
Because Murray doesn’t see us when healthy as a bottom team ( he has made that clear repeatedly )Why are we so "committed" to taking a defensemen in this draft with how 2021 looks
If Drysdale is the best available player at 6, you take him. Imagine having him with Owen Power or Brandt Clarke on our blue line for years to come. Why are we so "committed" to taking a defensemen in this draft with how 2021 looks
So? What does this have to do with not wanting a forward with all the elite ones we have to choose from when we cannot score goals and have barely any creative players. The defensemen in this draft are a tier below what they usually are, obviously still really really good prospects but we need forwards more than D.Because Murray doesn’t see us when healthy as a bottom team ( he has made that clear repeatedly )
This is what’s deeply concerning about his thought processBecause Murray doesn’t see us when healthy as a bottom team ( he has made that clear repeatedly )

We have Fowler, Lindholm and Manson next season with decent pieces below them. The defensemen we take most likely won't be in the NHL next season, we need forwards more and the forwards in this draft are much better than the defensemen. The only reason the defensemen in this draft may go high is because there is only 2 of them worth grabbing so teams that need defense will take them higher, when you compare them to the forwards available or go BPA it would be a forward until about #8 imo.Ignoring that we have no idea that this is what's happening and probably isn't the thought process regardless, this is an incredibly dumb thought process.

Pretty sure I've seen at least 5 guys go #6 in reputable mocks... tomorrow can't come soon enough
Nothing to be disappointed about. We will get a great player regardless of whether we go forward or defense.I'm prepared to be disappointed tomorrow
With an expansion draft looming, no less. You don't draft for need and you especially don't draft based on what may or may not be available 9 months from now. Its really, really dumb.
Yes, you draft the best player available which is not a defensemen at 6. What's so hard to understand? If you look at analysts RANKINGS and scouts RANKINGS instead of MOCK DRAFTS you would see how low the defensemen are ranked in this draft compared to forwards. You don't draft for need and you especially don't draft based on what may or may not be available 9 months from now. Whether you think this is the case or not is irrelevant, we have no clue who our scouts think is the best player. And if we feel Sanderson/Drysdale is the best player at 6, I trust them enough to have confidence in that decision.Yes, you draft the best player available which is not a defensemen at 6. Why are you talking definitively about an opinion. You don't know Madden's final board just as you don't know who in actuality is a "better" prospect. If they take a dman it's because they think he is the best available.Yes, you draft the best player available which is not a defensemen at 6. What's so hard to understand? I am more talking about the rumors stating the ducks are committed to taking a defensemen.I mean, thats not true, and I could care less what some people online are saying. If they draft Sanderson or Drysdale or whoever, it's because they think thats the best player, whats so hard to understand?
