Byfield has a Western conference feel to him with all their big centers (Schieflle, Drisatale, Getzlaf, Kopitar, Toewes) - Stuzel has a more Eastern conference feel - I can’t see LA passing on Byfield
Smoke. Fire.

that also currently have the best center depth in their prospect pool in the whole league

If we get Byfield I really want Raymond at 5, and if I’m feeling extra greedy Quinn somehow with our 3rd.

Surely there is no one who could get more out of Byfield than Brady Tkachuk.

Byfield doesn’t have a compete problem

I think we need to stop driving that narrative

His point totals prove that.

However, I want to see a more physically aggressive player who hits hard and takes no crap. A Conn Smythe type player - "if you can't beat them in the alley, you can't beat them on the ice."

that’s the thing with prospects, we ask this of Logan Brown and Zibby, some players aren’t built that way, Joe Thornton plays a perimeter game and is damn good at it.

He has a shift by shift breakdown on youtube. They got blown out and he was still competing. When Sudbury played the 67's in the playoffs he literally was competing too hard, I saw him take a penalty on a back check because he knocked a guy down from leaning on him.

If he is developed properly the sens are going to have a stud number 1 center. His hockey IQ and vision is certainly not a weakness, he has a long way to go but the raw abilities are the best in the draft.

He likes to come up from behind the play which is effective but does it too much. My main critique is that he needs to be more dynamic in getting open when he doesnt have the puck. Sometimes busting and forcing a teammates to chip him the puck rather then coming up from behind to get a pass would be effective in backing off the d men.

We get one of Stutzle or Byfield and say Thank You. I’d prefer Stutzle myself but will not complain if it’s Byfield.
With 5 we get one of Raymond (my hope), Rossi, Perfetti and say Thank You again. I’d prefer a forward to maximize the haul. More D later in draft or 2021 draft.
Make a trade (around Tierney plus) to be able to draft Quinn.
Draft a D (Wallenberg, Schneider, Barron are good thoughts) with NYI and 33

That's a massive plus with Tierney to move up to get Quinn. Isles 1st plus #33 at minimum I would think.

It is very possible that Quinn goes 10-15 ... He is in that range on most mock draft predictions. I think it’s more likely he gets bumped by a goalie, dman, or off the board picks than he getting selected 6-10. If NYI is 13-15 it is very possible and there is no reason to give up 33. If Quinn is gone, Mercer, Gunler, Jarvis or someone else will be available.

Makes you wonder...if Thornton had more of a physical edge, the Sharks might have a Cup banner by now (and he'd likely have retired a couple seasons ago).

That's the one thing with the big centers...especially ones with the solid body types...without that extra physical play, there will always be a sense of something missing from their game. That is, unless you're an all time generational guy like Mario.

Good options for sure. But I like Quinn most

I like Quinn over Zary, probably over Gunler and I’m not sure about Mercer. However I think 33 will have dman like Cormier, Guhle or a decent forwards and I would prefer to have that pick plus the NYI over Quinn.

I want Quinn or Holtz with the NYI pick if we can put a great package together to move up, if not then Mercer or Gunler.

He might be coached to do that; entering the O-zone in successive waves rather than one wave(I.e., breadth and depth in attack).

Another Draft 1st round Ranking. This one has some in depth profiles. There are a couple mistakes but .. it is what it is. Pretty well presented and a very good effort.
2020 NHL Draft Rankings: Final Top 31

I would be ecstatic If Sanderson or Quinn were available with the Isles 1st, could even have his teammate Rossi at 5

Also after reading that article, I’m becoming convinced Seth Jarvis is going to be targeted by Ottawa with the third 1st, they love guys that show big improvements in their draft years
