Heir apparent worked out well for the Packers when they took Rodgers and more recently for the Chiefs with Mahomes

And countless other times it didn't. Mahomes clearly could've played Year 1 if Alex Smith would've just gotten out of the way.

Yeah, but how many more years does Rodgers have in him? He looks like he could play at least three more seasons.
