How is it that Landy's play is trending downward? Landy was productive in the playoffs despite a slower start. He's in his prime right now and he is the defense catalyst on the top line which allows MacKinnon to do MacKinnon things.

Yeah Landy was on pace for 67 points in 82 games this year. Which would have been his second highest point total in his career. Then he put up 13 points in 14 playoff games.

I think some of the perception of falling off may be due to his 75 point in 73 game season in 2018-19, which could end up being a career year.

Sakic HAS to make a deal with him at some point.
You realize that he won all those trades and it's not close right? Bergevin is probably the best GM at making trades in the NHL.

If you want a shitty GM look at Poile.

Gallagher got 6.5m post covid and is not nearly as good as Landy.

Gallagher was on pace for his 3rd consecutive 30 goal season last year playing next to Danault who's a 3C and Tatar who's a 2nd liner (ie: not next to Mack and Rants).

He's also as clutch as they come and has pretty much all the intangibles that ever existed in a hockey player. Dude really is the top 6 version of Matt Calvert.

Landy might get a bit more but the value in $$$ is closer than it looks. Montreal needs Gallagher more than Colorado needs Landeskog.

We should definitely re-sign Landy and just accept that his is likely going to be our bad deal going forward. If he wasn't the captain and such an important part of the team and the top line, I'd be advocating trading him now while he has a year left. But given the cap situation in the league and his importance to the team, he should end up here for a long time.

As for the contract, I actually think Gallagher is a great comparable in the post-covid world. As Balthazar alluded to, I think the difference between their point totals is due to their linemates more than anything.

Landeskog is good comparable to Toews, although tough to believe Landy would be ever that overpaid.

How? Jonathan Toews had won 3 cups and been an NHL all-star 5 times before signing that contract. He's also a center and during his prime he was seen by many as one of the best player in the NHL.

Landy's best comparable is Anders Lee. Then other wingers like Evander Kane and Brendan Gallagher.
