I don't blame Timmins for the lack of Quebecers cause he and the scouts took the best players available. It always come down to the GM. Cause the times there was good players from Quebec available, he could have made moves to get them whether it's for Lapierre or Bourque. You trade two seconds for a late first.

Damn right I would do that. We could have gotten our pick plus Hendrix? He's a talented kid.

I will do everything I can to allow a kid from here to wear that jersey not matter what. But I won't go for garbage of course.

If there is a talented kid in our own backyard, we would be stupid to not make an effort to get him.

And this is something Serge Savard always tried to do as well.

That’s nice and all....now you need a team that’s in the late first that wants to trade down.....it was apparent that there were none and this has already been confirmed.

Just because you want to trade two 2nds for a 1st doesn’t mean it’s gonna go down because you want to

You’d never win anything. The quality of the Q isn’t what it used to be.

With that said, Habs said they did try to move up to grab him with a late 1st but their mid 2nd rounders were too low.

Lol good thing ur not the GM.

Yes if a quebecois is good we should consider him but only at equal chances of an equal player. How stupid is it to draft the weaker prospect (like Leblanc) instead of the much superior (like Krieder) just cuz hes Quebecois????

Lmao what am I reading. It's ridiculously stupid

Just a correction, Leblanc was drafted because he was a legitimately good prospect. #18 was his consensus rank. He then looked to be an excellent choice for a full three years after the draft, including an excellent rookie campaign with the Habs.

What the Hell are you talking about. I would have taken the same player as the Habs did this year. But you can make a trade to take a later second late pick. Not sure what why you didn't get from what I wrote. I guess some people tend to react like emotional children before they post.

2 2nd round picks is not the only options in trades. There's a variety of things you can do.

I'm just saying if I'm the Habs and I take my 1st pick but there's an interesting Quebecer later in the round, it doesn't hurt to see if I can aquire him.

Carolina basically did what I wanted us to do and took as many shots as they could at finding the next Point/Panarin type.

Florida’s group also looks solid. Benning in the 4th will help someone get a promotion down the road - won’t say book it, but I have a very strong feeling that he’ll outperform his draft slot.

We did exactly what I expected, so I’m feeling less shock and awe and more so disappointed parent. Hopefully some of them pan out. I will say - Guhle is and will continue to be the superior player to Schneider, so I’m glad we didn’t eat that bullet. /meh
Guhle will turn out to "be the superior player to" more than half a dozen of the players picked before him, including Drysdale.

Timmins in his interview w Marinaro said they tried to move up doing that but teams had no interest unless they dropped 1-2 spots for their 20s 1st round pick

They are there for results, not excuses. That's their job. They didn't try hard enough.
It just doesn’t happen anymore - when was the last time at the draft where a team gave up their 1st round pick to slide into later rounds?

No we couldn’t, that’s the point. Habs tried.

They’re not going to trade Price so they can draft a French kid to keep you guys entertained for a few hours.

Kimota, when French players start doing better they’ll be drafted. End of story. There’s a good story on RDS explaining that

They did try to acquire a late 1st, Timmins came out on record and confirmed it.
