Once upon a time, there was a list. A pessimistic list, done by a optimistic man with too much time on his hands.

This pessimistic list, by an optimistic man, was a feeble attempt at humor, or humour in England.

He tried not to make it too (not to or two) off-color/colour. There (not their or they're) was simply too (not to or two) little patience for comments that could fall into an uncomfortable gray/grey area.

This man, named Edge, based his list off comments he received from people who seized upon his work, albeit far too close to the draft for Edge to take two minutes to spell properly.

Chief among the concerns from those in the field were the correct spelling of names by those who perceived Edge was getting lazy.

People would shriek like sheikhs if the spellings of Kreider and the Niedermayer brothers were wrong. But how would they react if Nino Niederreiter was included in the mistake?

How could they trust Edge's list if they couldn't tell Ozzie Wiesblatt from Stephen (not Stepan or Steven) Weiss, nor know Niederbach and Neighbor from Byfield, to say nothing of Schneider, Reichel and Greig.

Ultimately, they forgave Edge and decided he must be tired and confused from talking about Lafreniere, Laferriere and Lapierre.
OMFG

A REALLY long, boring Zoom meeting.

My middle name is Keith. I had no idea how to spell it correctly when I submitted the form for my college diploma. If I didn't call my mom I would've spelled it wrong...

Far too much effort going into this.

I know some people have concerns about the size/strength at the NHL level. That's not really a concern for me. I think he plays at 5'11/6'0, and close to 200 pounds.

The question for me is the offense and the position. On the low-end, his game translates to a fourth line NHL player who pops in the odd point. The likely upside is more in the third line mold. But can he take it a little beyond that? Can he get closer to that Callahan/Dubinsky/Konowalchuk level? Can he stick at center?

That's the potential difference in long-term value and draft position for some teams.

Are you looking at a 10 goal/20 point fourth line LW? A 15 goal, 35 point third line center? Or can you envision a 20 goal, 50 point tweener who maybe sneaks up to some second line assignments when the team needs to change things up?

Each of those plateaus and projections could be the difference between a guy you consider taking at 35, at 25, or even in the late teens.

Think we might be able to see the traction soon. I like the move to a pro league, albeit HockeyEttan.

My first name is one of the most popular in the world and it shows with the spellings.

Michael
Micheal
Mikael
Mikhael
Mikel
Etc.
My middle name is Michael and I don't think I knew how to spell it correctly every time until I was in high school, and honestly, I kind of forgot it was my middle name

TL;DR = Edge is drunk again...

I honestly don't know.

I am fairly certain of the Rangers top 10 at this point.

I feel like I know about half the names they have from 11-22. I am confident that Amirov, Holloway, Greig and Lapierre are all in that mix though, along with Guhle on defense.

What I am really not sure about is the specific order, or the remaining 6 or 7 names.

sorry if you already covered this but any feel for the level of concern for Lapierre's health issues? and if the team has had their own doctors look at him?

curious if he's still on the list caues they aren't overly concerned or if he's simply so good that at some point (depending whos on the board) you have to take him risk be damned.

I don't know how the Rangers are feeling about Lapierre medically. But I know they are very high on the talent. They are at least comfortable enough for him to be a serious candidate at 22 and (likely) ranked in their top 22 for the draft.

I wonder how much the pandemic is messing with the stock of kids like Lapierre, since (I presume) they can't all get their own medical staff to interview/evaluate them.

EDIT: and on that point...

It'll be interesting to see how teams feel.

Lapierre and his camp are obviously going to play up the "everything is under control" angle. And it very well could be. But they also have a financial interest in spreading that message.

Teams are going to have to due their dilligence on this one. All the upside in the world doesn't mean a thing if you draft a kid who is out of hockey before he turns pro for you.

I've seen Jarvis and Mercer listed as both C and RW...do they both project as RW in the nhl?

Jarvis feels like a RW to me.

Mercer might stick at center and actually has a higher faceoff percentage than either Bourque or Greig.

But he's playing on Lapierre's wing so far and I think he probably stays on the wings moving forward.

EDIT - It looks like Mercer did play some more center in his last game. He's about 50 percent from the circle thus far in the preseason.

I can't see Jarvis at center in the NHL. Barely played center this year.

Mercer is better on the wing as well but probably has more of a chance.

every ounce of common sense in my body says that we should stay away from Lapierre due to his concussions. there are going to be good players on the board with middle to top 6 upside, we need the depth and can't afford to swing and miss with no 2nd round pick...

...but the closer we get to the draft the more i'm tempted to say F it swing for the fences and take him lol

We’re drafting 1 overall, and have had 6 first round picks since 2017, including a number 2. If we swing and miss on 22 it’s not gonna be a big deal.
