3 concussions in a year and a neck issue is enough for me to say no thanks to Lapierre.

If the concussions an issue now, they're likely going to continue to be one as he progresses. It sucks, hes a really talented kid who with a healthy season, would have likely pushed for a top 5 (if not top 3) spot.

He was a billion times more impressive than Byfield at the Gretzky-Hlinka. Small sample size of course, but it looked like he was on his way to a huge year.

The injury aspect is going to be the deciding factor for teams.

Right now, there's some question as to whether you're looking at 1 concussion and two injuries related to the neck, as oppossed to 3 concussions. But even if it is indeed only one concussion, the heck injuries were serious and you have to do your dilligence on researching that as a scouting staff.

It really is a shame, because under normal circumstances Lapierre is easily a top 10 pick, and quite possibly a top 5 pick.

There are going to be a few big swings potentially on the board when the Canes pick comes up. Is Lapierre the kid to cash those chips on? Eh, I have major concerns.

But if I had a third pick like Ottawa or New Jersey --- I think I'd have to take that gamble.

I think Nash was always a little disappointing for no fault that was his own.
His skills were what they were and he made of them what he could, but he was never a talent that was going to put up 100 points etc etc

I'll boldly say he goes between 5-15, very likely within the top 12, and reasonably in the top 10.

I'll also say that I think there's a very strong possibility that 4 defenseman and a goalie go in the top 15.

Now, for obsevers on here, that's significant because it means at least one of the top 16 forwards on a lot of popular lists will be sitting there at 21 --- which is when we start getting into the Rangers neighborhood.

So using McKenzie's "list" as a reference point, the top 16 forwards are:

1. Lafreniere
2. Stutzle
3. Byfield
4. Perfetti
5. Raymond
6. Rossi
7. Holtz
8. Quinn
9. Lundell
10. Mercer
11. Lapierre
12. Holloway
13. Jarvis
14. Amirov
15. Reichel
16. Perrault

If indeed four defensemen and one goalie make the top 15, one of those forwards will be sitting there at 21. If the Rangers were so inclined to move up, say to pick 17, five of those guys would be on the board.

So that's another reason why I am rooting for the pick to be as high as possible, even if it means being disgusted by a team that advances.

that’s also not including Khusnutdinov who I like a lot. I know we should never draft for need but we really need C’s.

A healthy Rick Nash finishes his career with over 500 goals.

He still had 400+. I can't really paint that as a disappointment.

Nash was a disappointment because he was a no show offensively in the playoffs. He was just painted as someone that was really good defensively in the playoffs. If we had a team that could score 3 goals a game during that era, we would’ve won the SC. Lundqvist was that good. We had issues scoring more than one goal.

Nash is only a "disappointment" because he wasn't a 'super star' like McDavid/Crosby/MacKinnon/etc are who can overcome the deficiencies of their teams and carry them on their backs effortlessly.

That being said...he was still a VERY GOOD 1OA PICK and Columbus/MacLean should suffer for eternity for not giving him a better team outside of the crap he had.

I don't think you can compare the two. Pettersson is a playmaker with silky smooth hands and great vision. Although Lafreniere also has great vision, he's more of a grind, high tempo, player's player. Think the player to compare him best to is Lecavalier (a better version, IMO).

Thought this was kind of cool. Gets to show you the sillier side of Lafreniere and some of the other prospects.

I say screw it and go for it, even the “safe pick” can end up being a drama queen and run away to Sweden. We’re adding the 1st overall pick to already one of the best prospect pools in the league, we can afford to take a risk

I have a really hard time figuring where Lapierre ends up going.

I could see him going in the mid-teens or he could be sitting there half-way through the second.

I'd rather not gamble here. We already have a boom pick with Kravtsov and I'm leery of guys with extensive injury histories and Lapierre might be going that way. We have plenty of top end talent as is and I think we'd be better off making sure that we get a guy who will play for a long time and if he turns out to be a 2nd liner or even a very good 3rd liner I'd be fine with that. I like Peterka and I'd like Torgersson or someone like Greig here.

I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for not typing "weary". Small thing, but it drives me crazy.

The thing with Khusnutdinov is that he could go in the later 1st or in the 3rd. There's a broad spectrum to where he might go.

Do they take the chance in the later rounds? I think I would just because of who NYR could ultimately get falling in the draft.

Man, it's shit like this that make me wish Perreault was better defensively....

I'll boldly say he goes between 5-15, very likely within the top 12, and reasonably in the top 10.

I'll also say that I think there's a very strong possibility that 4 defenseman and a goalie go in the top 15.

Correct and I think that is going to happen. If you look at all of the teams in the playoffs, and the teams that won recently.... the 3 "Big" defensemen... they imo are going in the top 15.

So yes, there is going to be an absolute steal at that 21 spot. The question is, how long do the Rangers want to wait. There's one player I think a lot of people have in the 2nd or later that I think is going to sneak into the first, and I also think he's a guy that will be a dominant NHL player.

Won't mention it until the draft, but I think you already know how the top 20 is panning out. Pick 21 is going to be a good spot:

1. Take the forward that is going slide. You will get a high-upside player here.
2. Take a big swing for an absolute boom/bust pick ala Kaliev who isn't a slider.
3. Reach for a defenseman that you really like that is a few years away.
4. Take a forward that is going to be a contributing ELC in a middle to bottom 6 role.

I don't think Mercer and Jarvis fall. The others are all good options, but the upside is what it is.

I think the Rangers would be very happy with Amirov.

Perrault is a guy whose talent should be on their radar, I just don't know if he's the guy they'd pick with some of the other names on the board.

Reichel could be on their radar --- they've followed Germany very closely in recent years, but have yet to take the plunge.
