Everybody’s got opinions ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That's fair. Not all of em are intelligent (look at Islander fans if you need an example), but everybody does have em.

EDIT: This came across as more sarcastic/dismissive than i intended it to be

Agreed. I think that the only case for this offseason to go horrible for the Rangers is that the league goes with the 24-team playoff format and somehow NYR still picks at No. 13 without having a chance in the playoffs.

That would be unfair to my eyes. It's one or the other the playoffs or the earlier draft pick and I'd opt for the playoffs but I can live with the Sabres in the playoffs as long as we get the earlier draft pick. I won't complain as long as we got one or the other.

Still on the fence about the playoff spot vs being slotted 7th overall in the draft selection. I'm usually a make the playoff guy but this year is just so different. Maybe you're right tho. A young, hungry team with a super talented goalie who could be dangerous.
Just salivating tho at the notion of adding a Holtz or Stutzle (if we won the lottery to move up 4 slots) or even a Rossi. I would feel that would pretty much complete the rebuild/retool whatever you wanna call it. Unless they do something stupid of course.

It's not really an easy decision between the one and the other. Starting from scratch and your team has the youngest legs--Shesterkin and Kreider will be back. I think we could make it interesting and that would be a boost for all the players.

The team isn't going to get the 7th overall pick. I can guarantee the team was the ones making the biggest stink about that potential playoff scenario.

In all likelihood, they'll have the 13th pick, with a chance to jump up a few spots. And if the playoff's happen, they'll be in

Rykov is assumably gone if he doesn't make the team next season, Reunanen as well (either next season or the season after). Jones is going to be 3-4 more years and Hajek is most likely gone in expansion. Robertson is the only one that could be a serious contender to make the roster in two seasons. After that the defensive pool is meh. Trouba is going to decline and I won't think will be with the team through the duration of his contract. They don't have the cap (ATM) to keep DeAngelo long term. They're going to have to pay Fox, too. Tell me then who could replace Miller or Lundkvist? The proposed 4-for-1 is massive overpayment for someone who hasn't played a single NHL game yet and to lose the potential of Miller/Lundkvist. There can still be the fact that Stutzle (or whoever) doesn't pan out. The draft has more misses than hits. Imagine the pressure that prospect would have seeing how aggressive NYR's fanbase is. I will never make a trade like that.

You have to consider the other teams, too. Eichel is the face of Buffalo and Barkov is a perennial player for the Panthers. They're not giving them up, especially not easily. Sure, they would be an upgrade on Strome, but there is going to be no real scenario that a trade happens and NYR keep guys like DeAngelo, Kakko, Fox. They won't have room to re-sign them longterm. A window where trading for that No. 1 center to play No. 2 is one season, two tops. That would throw away what NYR has been building the past three seasons. It's pointless to make a move like that now and proves a ton of wishful thinking.

So yeah.... I will say no to that proposal and scenario and, honestly, I don't care enough to debate this further with you. Going to agree to disagree here.

Rykov really had a lost season...it's almost like I wouldn't even count it. I don't think he was ever really healthy and it's hard to gauge him because of that. I'd try to hang with him for another season or two because I don't think we really got a good read off of him.

That's my guess too.

For sure good point. The Average Ranger fan and team management for sure is all on board with being that team in the 24 team playoff vs HFNYR probably being more 60/40 getting the 7th or 3rd overall. Not saying they don't value picking 7th overall but being in the playoffs even in these weird times is more valuable to them

I like Mysak compared to what his consensus ranking is. I think once it hits the last third of the first round hes a great pick

Like I wrote in his prospect thread, lack of eyeballs/looks/role/cross checking will keep him down; if you can get him in the twenties I’d be on that like Ted Nugent on a pre-teen girl.

Mercer is interesting because he has a lot of the traits of a guy many fans don’t necessarily fall in love with prior to the draft, but then point to as an example of finding value with mid-round picks.

He’s a support guy, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

Is he a guy the Rangers will have at the top of their list? I kind of doubt it.

I don’t know if he leads any particular category the Rangers are likely looking at, so he might be a guy who finds himself ranked fairly high, but behind other prospects the Rangers have on their organizational list. My guess is at 13, there are going to be players they like better.

On a similar note, much has been made of the Rangers not using first round picks on prospects from the Q. This is true, though you have to think at some point it’s going to happen. It’s a matter of when, more than if.

I've seen him multiple times with Hartford toward the end and you could tell he didn't seemed fully healed. We'll have to see how he ends up because his EOC starts next season. If he doesn't make it, does he head back to the KHL? Tough to gauge, ATM, but I would say signs point to yes.

Defensively, he's great, but not sure how the offense will translate. He's also one of the youngest players and has excelled in the Czech Extraliga, OHL and WJC. Think he could continue developing nicely. Would definitely take him at No. 23.

If they were to take a guy from the Q this year it would be Mercer (or Lafreniere, but let's be more realistic, lolol). But I could easily see him as a good pickup at No. 13, depending on who else is available.

Would the rangers trade up with 15 and 21 for a pick in the top 10?
