Rykov is assumably gone if he doesn't make the team next season, Reunanen as well (either next season or the season after). Jones is going to be 3-4 more years and Hajek is most likely gone in expansion. Robertson is the only one that could be a serious contender to make the roster in two seasons. After that the defensive pool is meh. Trouba is going to decline and I won't think will be with the team through the duration of his contract. They don't have the cap (ATM) to keep DeAngelo long term. They're going to have to pay Fox, too. Tell me then who could replace Miller or Lundkvist? The proposed 4-for-1 is massive overpayment for someone who hasn't played a single NHL game yet and to lose the potential of Miller/Lundkvist. There can still be the fact that Stutzle (or whoever) doesn't pan out. The draft has more misses than hits. Imagine the pressure that prospect would have seeing how aggressive NYR's fanbase is. I will never make a trade like that.
You have to consider the other teams, too. Eichel is the face of Buffalo and Barkov is a perennial player for the Panthers. They're not giving them up, especially not easily. Sure, they would be an upgrade on Strome, but there is going to be no real scenario that a trade happens and NYR keep guys like DeAngelo, Kakko, Fox. They won't have room to re-sign them longterm. A window where trading for that No. 1 center to play No. 2 is one season, two tops. That would throw away what NYR has been building the past three seasons. It's pointless to make a move like that now and proves a ton of wishful thinking.
So yeah.... I will say no to that proposal and scenario and, honestly, I don't care enough to debate this further with you. Going to agree to disagree here.
