You are asking me what I based it on, I said its my opinion. I supported my opinion by telling you that the professionals would agree that its not an astronomical prediction. I just don't think he is great at any one thing, which is why I would stay away from him. The Rangers tried that with your ex BFF and missed completely

Careful. Your bias is showing.

Next question: If the NHL did the 24 team playoff, and the Rangers miss and get slotted for pick 7, and the first 6 picks are:

Lafreniere
Byfield
Stutzle
Drysdale
Raymond
Perfetti

Who do you take at 7? Holtz, Rossi, or Lundell? Or someone else?

I think I might like Holtz the best as a player but might lean Rossi because he's a center. They are close.

In this very unlikely scenario, I’d take Holtz and figure out center later.

Think the team is going to have an opportunity to move a piece from a position of strength to potentially fill the hole at center

I wonder what Rossi will do next season. NL makes sense as he won't count as a foreign player there.

I honestly think that is the best route. Returning to Ottawa does absolutely nothing for him. Considering what scouts have said about his personal drive and off-ice habits - I wouldn't be surprised if he is working out like a madman right now. It will be interesting if he continue to play his leverage style against grown men, but if anyone can do it it's him. That boy is thiccccc.

Yeah I think I agree that Holtz is the better player.

I just wonder if they are close enough that it makes sense to lean Rossi.

And you are right - we still have assets to trade in this scenario for a center... would still have the Carolina pick, would still have Buch to trade (especially more tradeable now with Holtz on board), would still have a bevy of D prospects to trade. Could in theory trade with a package around DeAngelo for a top center as well and then move Lundkvist/Miller into the lineup.

It wouldn't be the worst thing for a bunch of kids to spend a year or two in Europe instead of just going through the motions in juniors.

Rossi
Byfield
Perfetti
Drysdale

What do they have to prove? When Matthews went to NL pre-draft, it was great. I think more kids should go that route. You learn more from pro hockey in Europe than from another year or being a men among boys in junior hockey where you already dominated

So if last years draft isn't as good as this one who is the quality prospect on Newhook/Krebs/Caufield level (or better) that is gonna drop well beyond the top 10? Plus it sure seems like Quinn, Sanderson, Askarov and maybe even Jarvis have a legit shot going top 10. Who is slipping to us at 13 (unless we pick 7th or better)? Laf/Bye/Stuz/Drysdale/Rossi/Holtz/Raymond/Perfetti/Quinn/Jarvis/Askarov/Sanderson/Lundell. Who knows if some teams gets enamored but another prospect in that top 13. Minus Askarov can't really complain with any of those guys.

As much as I love Holtz(plays a really efficient game that translates well, has elite skills and a good build on a solid frame a goal scorer’s goal scorer who can make plays off either wing) I’d take Rossi in a heartbeat.

Obscene scoring rate(more than enough to make up for height) good size for his height, little ball of hate. If he pushed Chytil down to 3rd line I’d have no problem with that.

I don't want to compare Rossi to them at all, but scoring alone isn't really a reason to go for a kid, because we all saw what happened with St Croix and Grachyov.

Rossi has much more to go by though. If we can get any kid slipping out of the top team (aside from Askarov) I am happy

Rossi’s scoring rate is .55 ppg better than St. Croix’s best season in junior, .66 better than Grachev. That is not a small difference.

Big problem is that none of them can do that except for Rossi, who was loaned to Ottawa from ZSC(allegedly.) Everybody else under NHL/CHL agreement where players have to go back to junior unless in NHL.

The only way to weasel out would be if a Euro team bought their junior contract for something along the lines of the CHL transfer fee, something fairly unlikely to happen for a whole host of reasons.

It sucks that the OHL/WHL/QMJHL has such a stranglehold on their players

I did, nothing that I hadn’t previously commented about.

You didn’t want to compare them, yet you led with it.

I just showed why you shouldn’t compare them.

Rossi is a great prospect to add. Really, anyone in the top-10 except Askarov. Adding Rossi may generate some interest in Austria for the Rangers too

If the Rangers are one the seven teams that don't make the playoffs (but have best winning percentage among the seven) and then win the lottery (moving up the purported maximum of 4 spots, as some have reported), then in a best case scenario, they could pick third?

If they implement the new lottery rules yes the best they could pick would be 3. Come on down Timmy!

Well the reason we would be in a top 7 was because the NHL decided to give the Sabres a playoff spot even though they have a lot worse record than ours. But yeah I would expect fans from other teams to bitch about it either way. So basically they can all f*** off.

Personally given the choice I'd take the playoff spot. Do I think the Rangers would win the Cup? No--but I do think they might make some noise. Youngest team comes out of a 3/4 month delay and I think coming out of the gate that could help us over some older veteran teams. And I'd like to see our team rewarded for all the hard work and progress they've made.

But the top 7 wouldn't be bad either--I could live with that too. Getting even deeper in prospect quantity and quality. We're really in a good spot for the future--once things start going again. Give away the playoff spot to an inferior team?--fine. We can take that better draft pick then.

Yes, but that's a dream that's only living on because of our desire for it to be true.
