on the broadcast they said the pro players won't be on the list. Bob said they expect to have Veleno and Dobson but unlikely for Hayton and almost no chance for Dach

Why do NHL teams make such bad decisions with rushing young players to the NHL and insisting they stay there when they are playing incredibly low minutes and not playing all that well? All these players could benefit from the WJC, unless they were in big roles in the NHL.

Hayton hasn't even hit 14 minutes all season. He has no business being in the NHL, if he's not going to be given a real role. Arizona is doing his development a huge disservice.

I don't know why Dach would be almost no chance. He doesn't have a point in five games and only has 3 shots in those five games. He's played a little more the last few games, but Chicago has a numbers problem right now with forwards and he's averaging about 12 minutes per game on the season.

Rees plays with more sandpaper and edge than most of the players listed on the proposed rosters here. He's relentless. He'd be ideal for an energy line. I would use Krebs and Rees together in that role. Both can also play and contribute.
Yeah this guy is way off. He is a perfect role player on the big ice.

It is just kind of the culture of hockey and how teams seem to operate. If a player is contributing in anyway what so ever they don't send them to the tournament. Out of the 3 players Dach is the easiest to justify not being released....though he still should be. If Hayton was on any other team then the Coyotes I feel like he would be let go. But the Coyotes seem to have a special level of hate for this tournament so they will probably not let him go....and keep him as a healthy scratch over the Christmas period lol.

The Coyotes are a bad development team. They wasted over a month of Soderstrom's season in the SHL to parade him around in training camp when he wasn't going to make their team, and then their fans were mad when it was mentioned what they did.

They also defended Hayton being scratched for many games in a row because the team was winning, as if the team has a full roster of all-stars occupying every spot in the lineup and its forbidden to make changes to the lineup after a win.

I'll be the first guy to admit I literally don't know who Dudas is(wasn't even on my radar) but I don't understand at first glance why he's even in camp let alone apparently a solid bet to make it per Bob. He's not even the token big guy he's 5'8 the smallest at camp. I guess he's got some pedigree as a OHL 1st rounder and played in the U17 and 18 events. Only the 12th best PPG among Canadian U20 players in just the OHL. Statistically I don't get it. He must be the best eye test guy in the CHL.

Canada 5th this year unfortunately
Agreed we have fallen a long way from our domination of the 2000s.

Crazy to look back and to see so many prolific all star players we had.

I remember Taveras had a crazy game with a few insane goals and we won 18-0 or something mad against latvia or something. Hodgson was insane for Canada to. Schenn, Eberle, Toews, Crosby, Doughty, Subban, Stamkos, Giroux, Marchand, Letang, Bourdon(rip), Carter, Weber, Getlzaf, Richards, Perry, Bergeron, Seabrook, Pietrangelo, Myers, Benn, Evander Kane, just crazy amont of stars doing that 5year period.

could be a right hand shot thing, not many on the team

To be honest, as much as people make this tournament out to be their dream and stuff, most kids will probably prefer the 150k to 200k they will pocket just sitting on the bench in the NHL and living the NHL lifestyle. Maybe not a healthy scratch even then he's still getting game checks. Most of these kids major dream was being in the NHL, which they are currently are, while being paid 100k to 200k depending on if they were released for camp or not.

Strong offence, weak D & G ?.
I would say Weaker Offence, Stronger Defence, and Weaker Goaltending then previous years honestly. Though I guarantee with all these '01 and '02 invites the next 2 team Canada rosters following this years will be pretty nuts.

Though maybe I'm wrong, maybe with Hayton and Veleno we'll have a stronger team then previous years but I predict not.

Diliberatore? Who?
Big guy, plays NCAA, played well in the summer showcase, currently doing great with Quinnipiac. Would add some grit if made it on the team but I highly doubt he does. Their are some better defense in Canada who should've had the spot over him if I were quite honest.

camp roster is pretty close to what was expected. I would have left off a few more 2000 born players in favor of the '01s, but old habits die hard at HC. but they're getting there.

Their team is sick, one of the most talented teams they have brought in a long time. Your assessment was way way off on Rees and your breakdown for the team is even worse.

I'm assuming getting Hayton/Dobson are longshots but there's time for their teams to reconsider.

After seeing Bob's projected roster with a 2nd line of Foote-Dellandrea-Dudas, I must ask the question: WHY? That'd be my fifth line perhaps. I'd much rather bring our best talent than bring two guys who are "probably good options to grind" - and Dudas (not even a grinder type) is not nearly in the same realm even as Perfetti, I don't care about age.

My roster above is if we actually brought the absolute best. C depth takes a massive blow if Hayton leaves, I'd be forced to slot Dellandrea in there if so (would prefer Krebs but frankly skeptical he's ready for a big tournament post-injury, otherwise he'd be on the main roster). No Dobson would mean trouble too, no idea who I'd take from the rest of the bunch (probably like Harley from the rest).

Pretty dissapointed to not see Rees and Poulin atleast get invites. Still like the team overall and think they are alot better than people seem to think they are. The negativity is outrageous this team is good. I also dont see many people with Bahl on the team. I can tell you this, if you think this is a bad roster but dont have him on the team then you either dont know what you are talking about or this team is stacked. Its one or ther other. He is a stud, his mobility for a big player is impressive and he can play a true shut down role while moving the puck. Very good d man. Eats hard minutes.

Team Canada will have a very good coaching staff in this place year which is a big factor in this tournament. I have seen many a talented (on paper) U.S. Team crumble due to bad coaching/management.

If you strip away the fact that Dellandrea was a first rounder, his numbers look very Pedestrian. Not only in previous years but this year especially.
24 games- 11 goals- 15 assists- minus -5
You’d think with all you read about with speed etc, playing in his 4th year against kids he should dominate. He simply hasn’t.
Looks like political machine is working.

Can any WHL watchers give some insights into how Krebs has been? He has six assists in five games and is a -7. Is he skating well and does he look healthy?

It may also be worth noting that in McKenzie's look at locks and frontrunners he differentiated Byfield, Dudas, and Thomas from the other listed forwards as not locks.
